Natural Dyes Extraction, Stability and Application to Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells

Mario Alejandro Mejía Escobar*, Frankin Jaramillo*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.3, No.4, pp. 281-291, 2015, DOI:10.7569/JRM.2014.634142

Abstract In recent years, the development of new materials has contributed markedly to improving the efficiency of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Mesoporous semiconductors, solid electrolyte, non-conventional catalysts and synthetic dyes without ruthenium have been the focus of study. With respect to the last, lanthanides and porphyrins have presented good properties, but these elements have the same disadvantage as rutheniumbased dyes; being complicated to synthesize and very expensive. These limitations have stimulated much research in the use of natural dyes as sensitizers due to their exceptional photoelectochemical properties and low cost. Furthermore, they are regarded as renewable More >

    López-Calderón MJ1, U Figueroa-Viramontes2*, M Fortis-Hernández1, G Núñez-Hernández2, E Ochoa-Martínez2, JI Sanchez-Duarte2

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.84, No.1, pp. 8-13, 2015, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2015.84.008

Abstract An experiment with increasing rates of fertilizer and manure in silage corn was established to evaluate the agronomic crop response and to estimate the manure nitrogen availability. The treatments were designed to deliver 0, 67, 100 and 133% of the crop nitrogen requirements (CNR), using ammonium sulphate and manure as N source. Dry matter (DM) yield was similar among treatments receiving N, but those values were greater than those found in the control. Nitrogen extraction at harvest was not statistically different in treatments with fertilizer or manure, but it was higher in these treatments than… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.47, No.2, pp. 127-141, 2015, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2015.047.127

Abstract In order to study the effect of high pressure water jet cutting technology on the permeability of single coal seam, we use the damage variable to describe the fracture distribution of coal seam, develop the 3-D finite element program based on the damage theory, and then analyze the damage distribution of coal seam after drilling and slotting. Using MTS815 rock mechanics testing system and the permeability test system, we conduct the permeability test and get the relationship between permeability and damage. Based on the damage distribution of coal seam after drilling and slotting and the More >

    Galindo-Tovar ME, VS Gasperin-Sanatta, JA Alejandre-Rosas, OR Leyva-Ovalle, J Murguía-González, HE Lee-Espinosa, I L,ero-Torres

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.83, pp. 307-310, 2014, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2014.83.307

Abstract Sechium edule is an important crop in Southern Mexico and Central America, and México was the main producer, with 53% of the world production in 2012. This species presents high levels of morphological variation that have resulted in different types of varieties not clearly defined. However, morphological characteristics have not been sufficient to classify S. edule varieties, and it has been difficult to study the species genetic diversity. Because of it, there is a need to develop methods for studying the genetic diversity in S. edule. In this regard, the first step is to find a suitable DNA More >

Abstract Musa spp. is one of the most important fruit crops in the world. Production in Mexico is ranked in the eighth place in the world. Nutrient imbalance is one of the main agronomic problems this species has to deal with. Modern fertilization programs must be designed based on nutrient demand by the cultivated plants, and according to their phenological phase. However, no information is available for ‘Dominico’, one of the most widespread cultivars in Mexico. The objectives of the present study were to evaluate dry mass and macronutrient accumulation and distribution in banana ‘Dominico’ during the… More >

Evaluation of Statistical Feature Encoding Techniques on Iris Images

    Chowhan S.S.1, G.N. Shinde2

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.9, No.1, pp. 67-74, 2009, DOI:10.3970/icces.2009.009.067

Abstract Feature selection, often used as a pre-processing step to machine learning, is designed to reduce dimensionality, eliminate irrelevant data and improve accuracy. Iris Basis is our first attempt to reduce the dimensionality of the problem while focusing only on parts of the scene that effectively identify the individual. Independent Component Analysis (ICA) is to extract iris feature to recognize iris pattern. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is a dimension-reduction tool that can be used to reduce a large set of variables to a small set that still contains most of the information in the large set.
