    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.47, No.2, pp. 127-141, 2015, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2015.047.127

Abstract In order to study the effect of high pressure water jet cutting technology on the permeability of single coal seam, we use the damage variable to describe the fracture distribution of coal seam, develop the 3-D finite element program based on the damage theory, and then analyze the damage distribution of coal seam after drilling and slotting. Using MTS815 rock mechanics testing system and the permeability test system, we conduct the permeability test and get the relationship between permeability and damage. Based on the damage distribution of coal seam after drilling and slotting and the More >

    Galindo-Tovar ME, VS Gasperin-Sanatta, JA Alejandre-Rosas, OR Leyva-Ovalle, J Murguía-González, HE Lee-Espinosa, I L,ero-Torres

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.83, pp. 307-310, 2014, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2014.83.307

Abstract Sechium edule is an important crop in Southern Mexico and Central America, and México was the main producer, with 53% of the world production in 2012. This species presents high levels of morphological variation that have resulted in different types of varieties not clearly defined. However, morphological characteristics have not been sufficient to classify S. edule varieties, and it has been difficult to study the species genetic diversity. Because of it, there is a need to develop methods for studying the genetic diversity in S. edule. In this regard, the first step is to find a suitable DNA More >

Macronutrient extraction in banana ‘Dominico’ (Musa spp.)

    Castillo González AM1, JA Hernández Maruri1, E Avitia García1, J Pineda Pineda2, LA Valdéz Aguilar3, T Corona Torres4

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.80, pp. 65-72, 2011, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2011.80.065

Abstract Musa spp. is one of the most important fruit crops in the world. Production in Mexico is ranked in the eighth place in the world. Nutrient imbalance is one of the main agronomic problems this species has to deal with. Modern fertilization programs must be designed based on nutrient demand by the cultivated plants, and according to their phenological phase. However, no information is available for ‘Dominico’, one of the most widespread cultivars in Mexico. The objectives of the present study were to evaluate dry mass and macronutrient accumulation and distribution in banana ‘Dominico’ during the… More >

    En-Cheng Liu1, Syh-Tsang Jenq1,2, Shih-Wei Kung3, Chie Gau1, Hsin-Luen Tsai4, Cheng-Ching Lee5, Yu-Der Chen5

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.9, No.4, pp. 245-246, 2009, DOI:10.3970/icces.2009.009.245

Abstract The purpose of the present work is to study the disc brake squeal problem for passenger cars in order to reduce the instable high frequency squeal modes. The ABAQUS/Standard implicit method was used to perform dynamic contact vibration analysis of the current disc brake finite element model. The disc brake system studied here contains the caliper, bracket, brake disc, and brake pad. Notice that brake pad in general contains both brake lining and brake shoe. The brake pad with a specific chamfer pattern and the brake disc with a series of cooling ribs for ventilation… More >

Evaluation of Statistical Feature Encoding Techniques on Iris Images

    Chowhan S.S.1, G.N. Shinde2

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.9, No.1, pp. 67-74, 2009, DOI:10.3970/icces.2009.009.067

Abstract Feature selection, often used as a pre-processing step to machine learning, is designed to reduce dimensionality, eliminate irrelevant data and improve accuracy. Iris Basis is our first attempt to reduce the dimensionality of the problem while focusing only on parts of the scene that effectively identify the individual. Independent Component Analysis (ICA) is to extract iris feature to recognize iris pattern. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is a dimension-reduction tool that can be used to reduce a large set of variables to a small set that still contains most of the information in the large set. Extraction of Fatigue Damaging Events from Road Spectrum Loadings Using the Wavelet-Based Fatigue Data Editing Algorithm

    S. Abdullah1

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.4, No.4, pp. 181-198, 2008, DOI:10.3970/sdhm.2008.004.181

Abstract This paper describes a technique to identify the important features in fatigue road spectrum loading, for which these features cause the majority of the total damage. Fatigue damaging events, called bump segments, are extracted from the spectrum loading using a wavelet-based algorithm, called Wavelet Bump Extraction (WBE). This algorithm is also used to produce a shortened mission signal that retains most of the fatigue damage whilst preserving the cycle sequences. The bump identification process has been evaluated by analysing two road spectrum loadings having a variable amplitude pattern. These data sets were obtained from the… More >

    A.A. Ivanova1, V.G. Kozlov1,2,3, D.A. Polezhaev1, D. Pareau3, M. Stambouli3

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.4, No.3, pp. 211-220, 2008, DOI:10.3970/fdmp.2008.004.211

Abstract The problem for the optimization of mass-transfer on the interface of two immiscible liquids by means of vibrational hydromechanics is studied experimentally. A new vibrational cell of Lewis's type expressly conceived for such purposes is described. Flow is generated by activators in the form of disks inducing translational axial oscillations near the opposite end faces of the cavity. It is shown that such vibrating disks can lead to the onset of a large-scale toroidal whirlwind effectively mixing the liquid throughout the volume. According to the experiments, in particular, axisymmetrical radial flows are generated on both More >
