A Meshless and Matrix-Free Approach to Modeling Turbulent Fluid Flow

Matthew Wilkinson, Javier Villarreal, Andrew Meade*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.129, No.3, pp. 1373-1393, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2021.017883 - 25 November 2021

Abstract A meshless and matrix-free fluid dynamics solver (SOMA) is introduced that avoids the need for user generated and/or analyzed grids, volumes, and meshes. Incremental building of the approximation avoids creation and inversion of possibly dense block diagonal matrices and significantly reduces user interaction. Validation results are presented from the application of SOMA to subsonic, compressible, and turbulent flow over an adiabatic flat plate. More >

A Review of the Dynamic Modeling Approaches for Characterizing Fluid Flow in Naturally Fractured Reservoirs

    M. N. Tarhuni*, W. R. Sulaiman, M. Z. Jaafar, M. Milad, A. M. Alghol

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.4, pp. 761-795, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.016645 - 31 May 2021

Abstract Fluid flow in fractured media has been studied for decades and received considerable attention in the oil and gas industry because of the high productivity of naturally fractured reservoirs. Due to formation complexity and reservoir heterogeneity, characterizing fluid flow with an appropriate reservoir model presents a challenging task that differs relatively from homogeneous conventional reservoirs in many aspects of view, including geological, petrophysical, production, and economics. In most fractured reservoirs, fracture networks create complex pathways that affect hydrocarbon flow, well performance, hence reservoir characterization. A better and comprehensive understanding of the available reservoir modeling approaches… More >

    Iskandar Waini1,2, Anuar Ishak2,*, Ioan Pop3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.68, No.3, pp. 3255-3269, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.017643 - 06 May 2021

Abstract This study examines the stagnation point flow over a stretching/shrinking sheet in a hybrid nanofluid with homogeneous-heterogeneous reactions. The hybrid nanofluid consists of copper (Cu) and alumina (Al2O3) nanoparticles which are added into water to form Cu-Al2O3/water hybrid nanofluid. The similarity equations are obtained using a similarity transformation. Then, the function bvp4c in MATLAB is utilised to obtain the numerical results. The dual solutions are found for limited values of the stretching/shrinking parameter. Also, the turning point arises in the shrinking region (λ < 0). Besides, the presence of hybrid nanoparticles enhances the heat transfer rate,… More >

    R. Kalaivanan1, N. Vishnu Ganesh2, Qasem M. Al-Mdallal3,*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.17, No.2, pp. 319-332, 2021, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2021.012789 - 02 April 2021

Abstract The buoyancy driven flow of a second-grade nanofluid in the presence of a binary chemical reaction is analyzed in the context of a model based on the balance equations for mass, species concentration, momentum and energy. The elastic properties of the considered fluid are taken into account. The two-dimensional slip flow of such non-Newtonian fluid over a porous flat material which is stretched vertically upwards is considered. The role played by the activation energy is accounted for through an exponent form modified Arrhenius function added to the Buongiorno model for the nanofluid concentration. The effects More >

    Sameh E. Ahmed1,2,*, Dalal Alrowaili3, Ehab Mahmoud Mohamed4,5, Abdelraheem M. Aly1,2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.66, No.3, pp. 3195-3213, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.012471 - 28 December 2020

Abstract In this paper, the Galerkin finite element method (FEM) together with the characteristic-based split (CBS) scheme are applied to study the case of the non-linear Boussinesq approximation within sinusoidal heating inclined enclosures filled with a non-Darcy porous media and nanofluids. The enclosure has an inclination angle and its side-walls have varying sinusoidal temperature distributions. The working fluid is a nanofluid that is consisting of water as a based nanofluid and Al2O3 as nanoparticles. The porous medium is modeled using the Brinkman Forchheimer extended Darcy model. The obtained results are analyzed over wide ranges of the non-linear… More >

    M. Bilal1, Imran Khan1, Taza Gul1,*, Asifa Tassaddiq2, Wajdi Alghamdi3, Safyan Mukhtar4, Poom Kumam5

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.66, No.2, pp. 2025-2039, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.012677 - 26 November 2020

Abstract This article aims to investigate the Darcy Forchhemier mixed convection flow of the hybrid nanofluid through an inclined extending cylinder. Two different nanoparticles such as carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and iron oxide Fe3O4 have been added to the base fluid in order to prepare a hybrid nanofluid. Nonlinear partial differential equations for momentum, energy and convective diffusion have been changed into dimensionless ordinary differential equations after using Von Karman approach. Homotopy analysis method (HAM), a powerful analytical approach has been used to find the solution to the given problem. The effects of the physical constraints on velocity, More >

Abstract The current investigation aims to explore the combined effects of heat and mass transfer on free convection of Sodium alginate-Fe3O4 based Brinkmann type nanofluid flow over a vertical rotating frame. The Tiwari and Das nanofluid model is employed to examine the effects of dimensionless numbers, including Grashof, Eckert, and Schmidt numbers and governing parameters like solid volume fraction of nanoparticles, Hall current, magnetic field, viscous dissipation, and the chemical reaction on the physical quantities. The dimensionless nonlinear partial differential equations are solved using a finite difference method known as Runge-Kutta Fehlberg (RKF-45) method. The variation More >

Lohit Sharmaa , Sunil Kumara , Robin Thakura , Bhaskar Goela , Amar Raj Singh Suria , Sashank Thapaa , Nitin Kumara , Rajesh Maithanib , Anil Kumarb

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.14, pp. 1-15, 2020, DOI:10.5098/hmt.14.30

Abstract This article presents an extensive review on exergy analysis of nanofluid flow through heat exchanger channels. The improvement of exergy efficiency of nanofluid flow through heat exchanger are determined by the net impact of the relative variations in the thermophysical properties of the nanoparticle which are sensitive towards numerous parameters including size and shape, material and concentration as well as base fluid thermal properties. Exergy efficiency of nanofluids flowing through heat exchanger is greater as compare to simple conventional fluids. The augmentation of exergy efficiency in the nanofluid flow through heat exchangers can be achieved More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.14, pp. 1-7, 2020, DOI:10.5098/hmt.14.15

Abstract This study aims at considering the properties of heat transfer and magneto-hydrodynamics (MHD) Casson nanofluid at the existence of free convection boundary layer flow with Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) suspended in human blood/water as based fluid on a stretching sheet. Two types of CNTs nanoparticles, single walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and multi walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), are taken into account. The governing partial differential equations are transformed to partial differential equations using similar transformation, then solved numerically by an implicit finite difference scheme known as Keller-box method (KBM). The results for physical quantities, the local skin More >
