“Goals Give You Hope”: An Exploration of Goal Setting in Young People Experiencing Mental Health Challenges

Jamie Penno*, Sarah Hetrick, Grant Christie

    International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol.24, No.5, pp. 771-781, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ijmhp.2022.020090 - 27 July 2022

Abstract The mental health of New Zealand’s adolescents is, by global standards, remarkably poor. Addressing such mental health needs is not only pertinent with regards to the quality of life of our young people, but also the health of our society as a whole, with current unmet youth mental health needs becoming future adult population health deficits. While an array of evidence-based psychotherapies are available as treatment, our knowledge of the mechanism of actions underlying each of these is lacking. We propose that the practice of goal setting as a therapeutic technique may represent not only… More >

The Impact of Spiritual Leadership on Employee’s Work Engagement–A Study Based on the Mediating Effect of Goal Self-Concordance and Self-Efficacy

    Lei Chen1, Ting Wen2,*, Jigan Wang1, Hong Gao1

    International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol.24, No.1, pp. 69-84, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ijmhp.2022.018932 - 20 December 2021

Abstract The average stress of people in China’s workplace is reaching the peak in recent two years. To improve employee’s positive psychological factors, Spiritual leadership has a good performance in this regard. Based on the mediating effect of goal self-concordance and self-efficacy, this paper further studies the impact of spiritual leadership on employee’s work engagement. Through the empirical study, the following conclusions are drawn: (1) Spiritual leadership significantly positively affects the employee’s work engagement. (2) Spiritual leadership has a significant positive effect on goal self-concordance and self-efficacy. (3) Goal self-concordance and self-efficacy have significant positive effects More >

Goal Self-Concordance Model: What Have We Learned and Where are We Going

    Peng Wan1, Ting Wen2,*, Yunfei Zhang3, Hong Gao1, Jigan Wang1

    International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol.23, No.2, pp. 201-219, 2021, DOI:10.32604/IJMHP.2021.015759 - 30 April 2021

Abstract Goal self-concordance reflects self-generated personal goals aligning with people’s interests and core values in one’s implicit personality as organic components, which is measured by the “perceived locus of causality” PLOC. Pursuing and achieving self-concordant goals both predict diversified outcomes in need-satisfaction, mental and physical well-being, positive attitude and behavior, etc. Based on expounding and sorting out the concept and measurement about goal self-concordance, the author analyzes the differences among a series of goal self-concordance theories. This paper focuses on the latest research trends and summarizes five influencing aspects of goal self-concordance: mental health, cognition, emotion, More >

Numerical prediction and sequential process optimization in sheet forming based on genetic algorithm

    Schmidt1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.15, No.2, pp. 65-74, 2010, DOI:10.3970/icces.2010.015.065

Abstract Genetic algorithm is an emerging technique used in engineering design activities to find an optimized solution which satisfy a number of design goals. Non-linear direct method of goal search use successive linearization techniques, which are sensitive to the chosen starting solution and quality of the objective function. The proposed technique can solve programming problems having non-convex regions, which are usually avoided in classical optimization problems. The efficacy of the proposed novel method is demonstrated by solving a number of test problems. The results suggest that the proposed method is effective and represents a practical tool More >

Assessing the goals of urology residency training: perceptions of practicing urologists in British Columbia

Kevin B. Morrison, Neil J. McLean, Andrew E. MacNeily

    Canadian Journal of Urology, Vol.10, No.4, pp. 1917-1923, 2003

Abstract Purpose: In an effort to evaluate the perceived utility of specific Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) urology residency training objectives we conducted a survey of the practicing urologists of British Columbia (BC).
Materials and methods: A two page semi-structured survey was designed. Validity was evaluated for clarity, content and ease of completion. The survey was mailed-out to all 61 practicing urologists in BC. The survey population was divided into urban, rural, and academic according to location of practice.
Results: Survey response rate was 79% with varying subgroup rates: urban-69% (20/29), rural-94% (17/18) and academic… More >
