    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.67, No.1, pp. 1069-1084, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.012000 - 12 January 2021

Abstract In recent times, scientists and engineers have been most attracted to electrically conducted nanofluids due to their numerous applications in various fields of science and engineering. For example, they are used in cancer treatment (hyperthermia), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), drug-delivery, and magnetic refrigeration (MR). Bearing in mind the significance and importance of electrically conducted nanofluids, this article aims to study an electrically conducted water-based nanofluid containing carbon nanotubes (CNTs). CNTs are of two types, single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) and multiple-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). The CNTs (SWCNTs and MWCNTs) have been dispersed in regular water as… More >

Abstract In this paper, the Galerkin finite element method (FEM) together with the characteristic-based split (CBS) scheme are applied to study the case of the non-linear Boussinesq approximation within sinusoidal heating inclined enclosures filled with a non-Darcy porous media and nanofluids. The enclosure has an inclination angle and its side-walls have varying sinusoidal temperature distributions. The working fluid is a nanofluid that is consisting of water as a based nanofluid and Al2O3 as nanoparticles. The porous medium is modeled using the Brinkman Forchheimer extended Darcy model. The obtained results are analyzed over wide ranges of the non-linear… More >

Effects of Wall Emissivity on Aerodynamic Heating in Scramjets

    Yue Zhou1, Pengfei Ju2,3,*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.16, No.6, pp. 1273-1283, 2020, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2020.09666 - 17 December 2020

Abstract The effects of the wall emissivity on aerodynamic heating in a scramjet are analyzed. The supersonic turbulent combustion flow including radiation is solved in the framework of a decoupled strategy where the flow field is determined first and the radiation field next. In particular, a finite difference method is used for solving the flow while a DOM (iscrete ordinates method) approach combined with a WSGGM (weighted sum of gray gases) model is implemented for radiative transfer. Supersonic nonreactive turbulent channel flows are examined for a DLR hydrogen fueled scramjet changing parametrically the wall emissivity. The More >

Abstract The idea of fractional derivatives is applied to several problems of viscoelastic fluid. However, most of these problems (fluid problems), were studied analytically using different integral transform techniques, as most of these problems are linear. The idea of the above fractional derivatives is rarely applied to fluid problems governed by nonlinear partial differential equations. Most importantly, in the nonlinear problems, either the fractional models are developed by artificial replacement of the classical derivatives with fractional derivatives or simple classical problems (without developing the fractional model even using artificial replacement) are solved. These problems were mostly… More >

    Louis Francois Marie1,*, Sunkara Prudhvi Raj2, Policherla Venkata Sai3, Tara MacLeod1, Morapakala Srinivas2, K. Srinivas Reddy3, Tadhg Seán O’Donovan4

    Energy Engineering, Vol.117, No.5, pp. 323-342, 2020, DOI:10.32604/EE.2020.011035 - 07 September 2020

Abstract Non-centrifugal cane sugar (NCS), known as Jaggery, is a form of unre- fined sugar which contains molasses. The integration of renewable energy resources in the production of NCS, have been analysed. The work investigates the energy requirements of a system incorporating a freeze-concentrator and a solar thermal heater to reduce the reliance on the combustion of bagasse or other fuels in a Jaggery production process. Depending on the extent to which freeze concentration can be incorporated into the process, results show that the minimum theoretical energy required to produce Jaggery can be reduced by 91.30%… More >

Abstract Every new generation of antennas is characterized by increased accuracy and faster transmission speeds. However, patch antennas have been known to damage human health. This type of antenna sends out electromagnetic waves that increase the temperature of the human head and prevent nerve strands from functioning properly. This paper examines the effect of the communication between the patch antenna and the brain on the head’s temperature by developing a hypothetical multi-input model that achieves more accurate results. These inputs are an individual’s blood and tissue, and the emission power of the antenna. These forces depend… More >

Jingying Wang, Fangzhou Han*, Li Lei, Chunhian Lee

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.16, No.3, pp. 601-613, 2020, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2020.09624 - 25 May 2020

Abstract Accurate aerodynamic heating prediction is of great significance to current manned space flight and deep space exploration missions. The temperature in the shock layer surrounding the reentry vehicle can reach up to 10,000 K and result in remarkable thermochemical nonequilibrium, as well as considerable radiative heat transfer. In general, high-temperature flow simulations coupled with thermal radiation require appropriate numerical schemes and physical models. In this paper, the equations governing hypersonic nonequilibrium flow, based on a three-temperature model combined with a thermal radiation solving approach, are used to investigate the radiation effects in the reentry shock… More >
