Peter van den Engel1,*, Michael Malin2, Nikhilesh Kodur Venkatesh1, Luigi Antonio de Araujo Passos1

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.3, pp. 783-805, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.021962 - 29 September 2022

Abstract This research evaluates the performance of a Phase Change Material (PCM) battery integrated into the climate system of a new transparent meeting center. The main research questions are: a. “Can the performance of the battery be calculated?” and b. “Can the battery reduce the heating and cooling energy demand in a significant way?” The first question is answered in this document. In order to be able to answer the second question, especially the way the heat loading in winter should be improved, then more research is necessary. In addition to the thermal battery, which consists… More > Graphic Abstract

Analysis of Heat Transport in a Powell-Eyring Fluid with Radiation and Joule Heating Effects via a Similarity Transformation

    Tahir Naseem1,2,*, Iqra Bibi1, Azeem Shahzad2, Mohammad Munir3

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.3, pp. 663-677, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.021136 - 29 September 2022

Abstract Heat transfer in an Eyring-Powell fluid that conducts electricity and flows past an exponentially growing sheet is considered. As the sheet is stretched in the x direction, the flow develops in the region with y > 0. The problem is tackled through a set of partial differential equations accounting for Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD), radiation and Joule heating effects, which are converted into a set of equivalent ordinary differential equations through a similarity transformation. The converted problem is solved in MATLAB in the framework a fourth order accurate integration scheme. It is found that the thermal relaxation period More >

Estimation of Higher Heating Value for MSW Using DSVM and BSOA

    Jithina Jose*, T. Sasipraba

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.36, No.1, pp. 573-588, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.030479 - 29 September 2022

Abstract In recent decades, the generation of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) is steadily increasing due to urbanization and technological advancement. The collection and disposal of municipal solid waste cause considerable environmental degradation, making MSW management a global priority. Waste-to-energy (WTE) using thermochemical process has been identified as the key solution in this area. After evaluating many automated Higher Heating Value (HHV) prediction approaches, an Optimal Deep Learning-based HHV Prediction (ODL-HHVP) model for MSW management has been developed. The objective of the ODL-HHVP model is to forecast the HHV of municipal solid waste, based on its oxygen,… More >

EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH ON THE HEAT TRANSFER CHARACTERISTICS OF NANOFLUIDS IN CRUDE OIL HEATING FURNACES

Yun Hao* , Shaohua Lv, Song Wu

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.18, pp. 1-8, 2022, DOI:10.5098/hmt.18.3

Abstract Traditional methods of enhancing the thermal efficiency of heating furnaces in continuously producing oilfields, such as replacing existing units with more efficient units or renovating old furnaces, are highly inconvenient. This paper studied on the characteristics of nanofluids, a novel heat transfer medium with excellent heat transfer characteristics to enhance the thermal efficiency of heating furnaces. The stable nanofluids (Al2O3-H2O, SiO2- H2O, and TiO2-H2O) were prepared by a two-step method and various chemical and physical treatments were carried out. Thermal conductivities of the nanofluids were measured using the transient hot-wire method. Based on the analysis, the most More >

THERMAL-HYDRAULIC ANALYSIS OF TRANSIENT CONJUGATE HEATING BETWEEN HEMI-SPHERICAL BODY AND AIR

Farhan Lafta Rashida , Abbas Fadhil Khalafa, Ahmed Kadhim Husseinb, Mohamed Bechir Ben Hamida c,d,e, Bagh Alif, Obai Younisg,*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.19, pp. 1-6, 2022, DOI:10.5098/hmt.19.21

Abstract Convection and conduction in a fluid flow and a rigid body in contact with each other often occur in engineering situations, resulting in unsteady conjugate heat transfer (CHT). Although the analytical solutions to the separate conduction and convection issues are surprisingly straightforward, the combined conjugate heat transfer problem is substantially more complex to solve. This study investigates the CHT of a fluid (air) passing through an unbounded hemisphere. The hemisphere produces heat at a predictable and regular pace. The governing equations are solved using a finite volume system (FVS) using ANSYS Fluent V.16.0, with axisymmetric, More >

Thermal Loss Analysis of a Flat Plate Solar Collector Using Numerical Simulation

    Timur Merembayev1,2,*, Yedilkhan Amirgaliyev1,3, Murat Kunelbayev1, Didar Yedilkhan1,4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.3, pp. 4627-4640, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.027180 - 28 July 2022

Abstract In this paper, we studied theoretically and numerically heated losses of a flat solar collector to model the solar water heating system for the Kazakhstan climate condition. For different climatic zones with a growing cost for energy or lack of central heating systems, promising is to find ways to improve the energy efficiency of the solar system. The mathematical model (based on ordinary differential equation) simulated the solar system work process under different conditions. To bridge the modeling and real values results, we studied the important physical parameters such as loss coefficient, Nu, Ra, and… More >

Fabrication of High Toughness Silk Fibroin/Tungsten Disulfide Nanoparticles Hybrid Fiber and Self-Heating Textile by Wet Spinning

    Jianjun Guo1,2, Lingling Jia3, Sandra Senyo Fometu4, Qiang Ma5, Jinjin Wang1, Hang Li1, Lei Jiang5, Guohua Wu1,*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.12, pp. 3373-3389, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.021087 - 14 July 2022

Abstract Traditionally, silkworm silk has been used to make high-quality textiles. Nevertheless, various wastes from silkworm silk textiles that are no longer used are increasing, which is also causing considerable waste and contamination. This issue is causing widespread concern in countries that use more silk. Regenerated silk fibroin (RSF) fibers have been shown to be fragile and tender, which prohibits RSF from being widely used as a structural component. Therefore, enriching the function of silk and enhancing the RSF mechanical properties are important directions to expand the comprehensive utilization of silk products. In the present research,… More >

Mingxin Li, Benzhi Hou, Yihua Zheng*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.11, pp. 3079-3091, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.020167 - 29 June 2022

Abstract This work proposes a novel heating and cooling system, with incorporated thermoelectric module, that can achieve energy balance using a self-water supply heat exchange subsystem. The thermoelectric effect is used to achieve controlled and adjustable heating of the circulating water. Simulations were conducted to study the thermal performance of the system while it simultaneously produces hot and cold water, with different working conditions for the hot-and cold-side water outlets. The results show that the water temperature at the hot side outlet increases from 32°C to 75°C when the power increases from 4.5 to 50 W. More >
