Abstract Semi-transparent perovskite solar cells (ST-PSCs) are promising in building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPVs) and tandem solar cells (TSCs). One of the keys to fabricate high-performance ST-PSCs is depositing efficient transparent electrodes. Indium tin oxide (ITO) is an excellent transparent conductive oxide with good light transmittance and high conductivity. However, the high sheet resistance of ITO sputtered at room temperature leads to the low fill factor (FF) and poor power conversion efficiency (PCE) of the ST-PSCs. Here, we study the effect of the sputtering temperature on the properties of ITO and the performance of ST-PSCs. We find that More > Graphic Abstract

Thermal Analysis of Melting Occurring Inside a Finned Rectangular Enclosure Equipped with Discrete Pulsed Protruding Heat Sources

Brahim Amahan1, Hamid El Qarnia2,*, Ali El Afif1

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.5, pp. 1539-1549, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.021839 - 27 May 2022

Abstract This paper numerically investigates the effect of the location of a horizontal fin on the melting of a phase change material (PCM) inside a rectangular enclosure heated by multiple discrete pulsed protruding heat sources. The fin and the phase change material filling the enclosure store the thermal energy extracted from the heat sources, in sensible and latent forms. The heat sources are assumed to simulate electronic components undergoing a superheating technical issue. By extracting heat from the electronics, the PCM plays the role of a heat sink. To analyze the thermal behavior and predict the… More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.4, pp. 1129-1136, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.021731 - 06 April 2022

Abstract In this work, the thermal sterilization process in food cans has been analyzed using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). STAR CCM+ software has been used in order to develop a numerical model to study the heating process of standard and the recently proposed toroidal shaped cans. The model has been validated comparing the results with the ones obtained experimentally and numerically that can be found in the literature. A good agreement between the obtained numerical results and the experimental ones has been obtained. The results also agree with other numerical models previously developed in the literature.… More >

    Xueqin Tian1, Jinfei Sun2, Tong Xu1, Mengran Cui2, Xinlei Wang1, Jianxiang Guo2, De-gejirifu1,*, Na Wang1

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.2, pp. 723-737, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.015982 - 24 January 2022

Abstract Although the Combined Cooing, Heating and Power System (hereinafter referred to as “CCHP”) improves the capacity utilization rate and energy utilization efficiency, single use of CCHP system cannot realize dynamic matching between supply and demand loads due to the unbalance features of the user’s cooling and heating loads. On the basis of user convenience and wide applicability of clean air energy, this paper tries to put forward a coupled CCHP system with combustion gas turbine and ASHP ordered power by heat, analyze trends of such parameters as gas consumption and power consumption of heat pump… More >

The Estimation of the Higher Heating Value of Biochar by Data-Driven Modeling

    Jiefeng Chen1, Lisha Ding1, Pengyu Wang1, Weijin Zhang2, Jie Li3, Badr A. Mohamed4, Jie Chen1, Songqi Leng1, Tonggui Liu1, Lijian Leng2,*, Wenguang Zhou1,*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.6, pp. 1555-1574, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.018625 - 20 January 2022

Abstract Biomass is a carbon-neutral renewable energy resource. Biochar produced from biomass pyrolysis exhibits preferable characteristics and potential for fossil fuel substitution. For time- and cost-saving, it is vital to establish predictive models to predict biochar properties. However, limited studies focused on the accurate prediction of HHV of biochar by using proximate and ultimate analysis results of various biochar. Therefore, the multi-linear regression (MLR) and the machine learning (ML) models were developed to predict the measured HHV of biochar from the experiment data of this study. In detail, 52 types of biochars were produced by pyrolysis… More >

Machine Learning-Based Predictions on the Self-Heating Characteristics of Nanocomposites with Hybrid Fillers

    Taegeon Kil1, D. I. Jang1, H. N. Yoon1, Beomjoo Yang2,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.3, pp. 4487-4502, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.020940 - 14 January 2022

Abstract A machine learning-based prediction of the self-heating characteristics and the negative temperature coefficient (NTC) effect detection of nanocomposites incorporating carbon nanotube (CNT) and carbon fiber (CF) is proposed. The CNT content was fixed at 4.0 wt.%, and CFs having three different lengths (0.1, 3 and 6 mm) at dosage of 1.0 wt.% were added to fabricate the specimens. The self-heating properties of the specimens were evaluated via self-heating tests. Based on the experiment results, two types of artificial neural network (ANN) models were constructed to predict the surface temperature and electrical resistance, and to detect More >

Evaluation of Energy Efficiency Performance of Heated Windows

    Hari Swarup Jammulamadaka1, Bhaskaran Gopalakrishnan2,*, Subodh Chaudhari3, Senthil Sundaramoorthy3, Akash Rajesh Mehta2, Roseline Mostafa2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.1, pp. 1-16, 2022, DOI:10.32604/EE.2022.017363 - 22 November 2021

Abstract Fenestration systems are widely used across the world. There is expansive research on window configurations, frames, and glazing technology, but not enough research has been published on reducing window heat loss through heat application to a pane. The presented study attempted to evaluate the performance of heated windows by developing an experimental setup to test a window at various temperatures by varying the power input to the window. Heated double pane window was installed in an insulated box. A temperature gradient was developed across the window by cooling one side of the window using gel-based… More >

Heat Transfer of Casson Fluid over a Vertical Plate with Arbitrary Shear Stress and Exponential Heating

    Dolat Khan1, Gohar Ali1, Arshad Khan2, Ilyas Khan3,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.1, pp. 1025-1034, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.012635 - 03 November 2021

Abstract The basic objective of this work is to study the heat transfer of Casson fluid of non-Newtonian nature. The fluid is considered over a vertical plate such that the plate exhibits arbitrary wall shear stress at the boundary. Heat transfers due to exponential plate heating and natural convection are due to buoyancy force. Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) analysis in the occurrence of a uniform magnetic field is also considered. The medium over the plate is porous and hence Darcy’s law is applied. The governing equations are established for the velocity and temperature fields by the usual Boussinesq… More >
