    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.89, No.3, pp. 667-679, 2020, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2020.010160 - 22 June 2020

Abstract Water, minerals, nutrients, etc., can be shared by physiological integration among inter-connected ramets of clonal plants. Nitrogen plays an important role in alleviating cadmium (Cd) stress for clonal plants. But how different forms of nitrogen affect growth performance of clonal plants subjected to heterogeneous Cd stress still remains poorly understood. A pot experiment was conducted to investigate the differential effects of ammonium and nitrate on growth performance of Glechoma longituba under heterogeneous Cd stress. In the experiment, parent ramets of Glechoma longituba clonal fragments were respectively supplied with modified Hoagland solution containing 7.5 mM ammonium, 7.5… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.64, No.1, pp. 501-514, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.010048 - 20 May 2020

Abstract In this paper, maximizing energy efficiency (EE) through radio resource allocation for renewable energy powered heterogeneous cellular networks (HetNet) with energy sharing, is investigated. Our goal is to maximize the network EE, conquer the instability of renewable energy sources and guarantee the fairness of users during allocating resources. We define the objective function as a sum weighted EE of all links in the HetNet. We formulate the resource allocation problem in terms of subcarrier assignment, power allocation and energy sharing, as a mixed combinatorial and non-convex optimization problem. We propose an energy efficient resource allocation More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.63, No.3, pp. 1343-1356, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.010008 - 30 April 2020

Abstract Interactivity is the most significant feature of network data, especially in social networks. Existing network embedding methods have achieved remarkable results in learning network structure and node attributes, but do not pay attention to the multiinteraction between nodes, which limits the extraction and mining of potential deep interactions between nodes. To tackle the problem, we propose a method called MultiInteraction heterogeneous information Network Embedding (MINE). Firstly, we introduced the multi-interactions heterogeneous information network and extracted complex heterogeneous relation sequences by the multi-interaction extraction algorithm. Secondly, we use a well-designed multi-relationship network fusion model based on More >

    Dimitra Papagianni1, 2, Magd Abdel Wahab3, 4, *

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.62, No.1, pp. 79-97, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.07988

Abstract This paper deals with modeling of the phenomenon of fretting fatigue in heterogeneous materials using the multi-scale computational homogenization technique and finite element analysis (FEA). The heterogeneous material for the specimens consists of a single hole model (25% void/cell, 16% void/cell and 10% void/cell) and a four-hole model (25% void/cell). Using a representative volume element (RVE), we try to produce the equivalent homogenized properties and work on a homogeneous specimen for the study of fretting fatigue. Next, the fretting fatigue contact problem is performed for 3 new cases of models that consist of a homogeneous More >

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.25, No.1, pp. 79-90, 2019, DOI:10.31209/2018.100000011

Abstract This paper presents the Distributed Heterogeneous Inspection System (DHIS), which comprises two CUDA workstations and is equipped with CPU distributed computing, CPU concurrent computing, and GPU concurrent computing functions. Thirty-two grayscale images, each with 5,000× 12,288 pixels and simulated defect patterns, were created to evaluate the performances of three system configurations: (1) DHIS; (2) two CUDA workstations with CPU distributed computing and GPU concurrent computing; (3) one CUDA workstation with GPU concurrent computing. Experimental results indicated that: (1) only DHIS can satisfy the time limit, and the average turnaround time of DHIS is 37.65% of More >

On the Identification of Heterogeneous Nonlinear Material Properties of the Aortic Wall from Clinical Gated CT Scans

    Minliang Liu1, Liang Liang2, Xiaoying Lou3, Glen Iannucci3, Edward Chen3, Bradley Leshnower3, Wei Sun1,*

    Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics, Vol.16, Suppl.2, pp. 53-53, 2019, DOI:10.32604/mcb.2019.07387

Abstract It is well known that mechanical properties of the aortic wall exhibit patient-specific variations. Recent experimental findings also suggest the aortic wall properties are highly region-specific [1-2]. Thus, in vivo heterogeneous (non-uniform) nonlinear mechanical properties of the aortic wall of individual patients needs to be noninvasively identified for accurate prediction of clinical events (e.g. aortic rupture).
In this study, we developed an inverse approach for identification of patient-specific non-uniform material properties of the aortic wall from gated 3D CT scans. This inverse approach leverages the fact that the in vivo transmural mean stress (tension) of… More >

Damage Modeling of Heterogeneous Materials Using Multiscale Approach

Jurica Sorić*, Tomislav Lesičar, Filip Putar, Zdenko Tonković

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.22, No.4, pp. 181-183, 2019, DOI:10.32604/icces.2019.04554

Abstract The paper deals with the novel multiscale approaches for modelling of both quasi-brittle and ductile damage responses of heterogeneous materials. The damage is induced at the microstructural level and, after the homogenization procedure, it is included in the constitutive stiffness of the material point at macrolevel. The derived algorithms are implemented into the finite element software ABAQUS. The new two-scale transition procedures have been verified on the standard benchmark examples. More >

The Improved Condensation Heat Transfer Models on Homogeneous and Heterogeneous Surfaces

Jian Xie*, Cong Liang, Qingting She, Jinliang Xu

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.22, No.3, pp. 157-157, 2019, DOI:10.32604/icces.2019.05222

Abstract Recently, micro/nano structured surfaces with various wettabilities have been developed to enhance condensation heat transfer. Here, two improved condensation heat transfer models were proposed to guide design of these surfaces. The first model deals with condensation on homogeneous wettability surface with nono-pillars. Compared with the classical model, the improved model behaves three features: (1) The linking from surface wettability to nano-pillars parameters is established; (2) The nano-porous thermal resistance under condensate droplets is considered; (3) The transition criteria of different droplet detachment modes including sliding, rolling and jumping is incorporated. The nano-pillars are found to… More >

    Toshihiro Ashino1,*, Nobutaka Nishikawa2

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.22, No.2, pp. 137-137, 2019, DOI:10.32604/icces.2019.05454

Abstract Materials performance analysis process requires integration of many heterogeneous data and information resources, e.g. experimental data, empirical models and computational simulation. Virtual Research Environment (VRE) for materials science and engineering should support each data handling processes, data retrieval, conversion, statistical analysis, symbolic manipulation and visualization within single interactive and scripting environment.
Furthermore, in order to integrate heterogeneous data, it requires a common dictionary which describe semantic relationships among these data resources. It is required to identify corresponding data items from different data resources. It can be a flat structured table, but an ontology which describes More >

Numerical and Experimental Investigation of Heterogeneous Transformation Behaviour in Shape Memory Alloys

Bashir S. Shariat*, Sam Bakhtiari, Hong Yang, Yinong Liu

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.21, No.1, pp. 21-21, 2019, DOI:10.32604/icces.2019.05559

Abstract Shape memory alloys (SMAs) are a unique collection of materials which can return to their initial configuration after being largely deformed. Near-equiatomic NiTi is the most widely used SMA due to its excellent shape memory properties and fabricability. One exceptional property of this alloy is superelasticity, which refers to the ability of the alloy to accommodate relatively large deformation typically up to 8% of tensile strain and return to the original undeformed shape upon unloading. As a result of this outstanding feature, superelastic NiTi have been increasingly used in different areas of engineering, such as… More >
