    Weiming Zhang1, Muhammad Wasim Khan1, Xueqin Zuo1, Qun Yang1, Huaibao Tang1,2, Shaowei Jin1,2, Guang Li1,2,3,*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.8, No.4, pp. 431-446, 2020, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2020.09158 - 24 April 2020

Abstract A novel sunflower-like nanocomposite of SrCo2S4 nanoflakes and functionalized multiwall carbon nanotubes (f-MWCNTs) entanglement enveloped in nitrogen-reduced graphene oxide (N-RGO) is prepared by a cheap process. The unique entanglement structure of the material exhibits higher specific surface area, better electrical conductivity and other properties. This helps to reduce the transfer resistance in the photoelectric process of the battery and improve the electrochemical activity, thus increasing the photoelectric conversion efficiency of the battery. The new ternary cobalt-based sulfide material can replace platinum as the counter electrode (CE) material loaded on dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). DSSCs with SrCo2S4@f-MWCNTs@N-RGO More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.123, No.1, pp. 101-127, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2020.09099 - 01 April 2020

Abstract The high demands for load-carrying capability and structural efficiency of composite-metal bolted joints trigger in-depth investigations on failure mechanisms of the joints in hygrothermal environments. However, few studies have been presented to exhaustively reveal hygrothermal effects on the failure of CFRP-metal bolted joints, which differ from CFRP-CFRP or metal-metal bolted joints because of the remarkably different material properties of CFRPs and metals. In this paper, hygrothermal effects on tensile failures of single-lap and double-lap CFRP-aluminum bolted joints were experimentally and numerically investigated. A novel numerical model, in which a hygrothermal-included progressive damage model of composites… More >

    Primož Kocutar1, *, Jure Ravnik1, Leopold Škerget1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.123, No.1, pp. 1-22, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2020.08728 - 01 April 2020

Abstract In this paper, we develop and test a unified hybrid LES/URANS turbulence model with two different Large Eddy Simulation (LES) turbulence models. The numerical algorithm is based on the Boundary Element Method. In the existing hybrid LES/URANS turbulence model we implemented a new Smagorinsky LES turbulence model. The hybrid LES/URANS turbulence model is unified, which means that the LES/URANS interface is changed dynamically during simulation using a physical quantity. In order to define the interface between LES and unsteady Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes (URANS) zones during the simulation, we use the Reynolds number based on… More >

    Karima Ben Hamou1,2,*, Amal Kadimi1, Remo Merijs Meri3, Sergei Gaidukov3, Hamid Kaddami1, Mustapha Raihane1, Mouhamed Lahcini1, Fouad Erchiqui2

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.8, No.3, pp. 301-317, 2020, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2020.08141 - 01 March 2020

Abstract This work reports a comprehensive study on poly (Ethylmethacrylateco-Acrylonitrile) Poly(EMA-AN) nanocomposites reinforced with a hybrid mixture of nanoreiforcements based on nanocrystals of cellulose (NCC) (1 or 5% wt) and halloysite nanotubes (HNTs) (1 or 5% wt). The morphology, thermal and mechanical properties of these nanocomposites were characterized. Homogeneous dispersion of the nanofillers has been shown by scanning electron microscopy. A significant increase of the rubbery modulus and glass transition temperature were obtained upon filler addition, due to the reduction of mobility of the matrix macromolecular chains. On the other hand, compared with the neat Poly(EMAAN), More >

    Farzad Ebrahimi1, Ali Dabbagh2, Abbas Rastgoo2, Timon Rabczuk3, *

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.63, No.1, pp. 41-64, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.07947 - 30 March 2020

Abstract We propose a multiscale approach to study the influence of carbon nanotubes’ agglomeration on the stability of hybrid nanocomposite plates. The hybrid nanocomposite consists of both macro- and nano-scale reinforcing fibers dispersed in a polymer matrix. The equivalent material properties are calculated by coupling the Eshelby-Mori-Tanaka model with the rule of mixture accounting for effects of CNTs inside the generated clusters. Furthermore, an energy based approach is implemented to obtain the governing equations of the problem utilizing a refined higher-order plate theorem. Subsequently, the derived equations are solved by Galerkin’s analytical method to predict the More >

Abstract Vehicles generate dissimilar sound patterns under different working environments. These generated sound patterns signify the condition of the engines, which in turn is used for diagnosing various faults. In this paper, the sound signals produced by motorcycles are analyzed to locate various faults. The important attributes are extracted from the generated sound signals based on time, frequency and wavelet domains which clearly describe the statistical behavior of the signals. Further, various types of faults are classified using the Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) classifier from the extracted features. Moreover, the improved classification performance is obtained by More >
