Abstract We have synthesized Schiff’s base of Fe3 O4 @chitosan with 4,4'-diselenobisbenzaldehyde (Fe3O4 @CSSe) composite and used it as acatalyst for the oxidation of sulfides, having some advantageous properties such as eco-friendly, cost-effective and highly efficient magnetic biocatalyst of selenium. The synthesized schiff’s base was characterized by different physical characterization techniques such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM)and Dynamic light scattering (DLS). Further, we used the resulting schiff’s base as a catalyst in the presence of a green oxidant (H2 O2 ) to oxidize sulfides to corresponding sulfoxides at room temperature. It More >

    Zekun Wang1,2,4, Yan Jia1,2,3,*, Yingjian Yang1, Chang Cai4,5, Yinpeng Chen1

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.6, pp. 1641-1658, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.017464 - 10 September 2021

Abstract Due to the uncertainty of renewable energy power generation and the non-linearity of load demand, it becomes complicated to determine the capacity of each device in hybrid renewable energy power generation systems. This work aims to optimize the capacity of two types of the off-grid hybrid wind-hydrogen energy system. We considered the maximum profit of the system and the minimum loss of power supply probability as optimization goals. Firstly, we established steady-state models of the wind turbine, alkaline electrolyzer, lead-acid battery, and proton exchange membrane fuel cell in matrix laboratory software to optimize the capacity.… More >

Abstract This work presents a hybrid power system consisting of photovoltaic and solid oxide fuel cell (PV-SOFC) for electricity production and hydrogen production. The simulation of this hybrid system is adjusted for Bou-Zedjar city in north Algeria. Homer software was used for this simulation to calculate the power output and the total net present cost. The method used depends on the annual average monthly values of clearness index and radiation for which the energy contributions are determined for each component of PV/SOFC hybrid system. The economic study is more important criterion in the proposed hybrid system, More >

A Review of Seasonal Hydrogen Storage Multi-Energy Systems Based on Temporal and Spatial Characteristics

Yuchen Cao, Yongwen Yang, Xianglong Zhao, Qifen Li*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.9, No.11, pp. 1823-1842, 2021, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2021.015722 - 04 June 2021

Abstract The temporal and spatial characteristics of seasonal hydrogen storage will play a very important role in the coupling of multi-energy systems. This essay believes that there are several key issues worth noting in the seasonal hydrogen storage coupled multi-energy system, namely, hydrogen storage methods, coupling models, and benefit evaluation. Through research, this article innovatively divides seasonal hydrogen storage into two types: space transfer hydrogen storage technology and time transfer physical property conversion hydrogen storage technology. Then sort out the two most typical seasonal hydrogen storage multi-energy system application scenarios and their hydrogen storage unit models. More > Graphic Abstract

Nanosilver-Promoted Lateral Root Development in Rice is Mediated through Hydrogen Peroxide

    Yu-Jyun Chen, Xian-Hao Yang, Yun-Yang Chao*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.90, No.5, pp. 1477-1489, 2021, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2021.015719 - 27 May 2021

Abstract Nanosilver (10−9 m) refers to particles comprising 20–15,000 silver atoms, exhibiting high stability and specific surface area. At present, nanosilver has been used in agricultural cultivation and production. This study examined the effects of nanosilver on growth and development of rice root systems. Study results showed that fresh weight of rice belowground organs and root length both increased significantly by 5% and 25%, respectively, after rice radicles were treated with 2 ppm of nanosilver for three days. However, the H2O2 level reached its peak at 2 days from treatment, but the activities of the antioxidant enzymes… More >

Abstract A simple, highly reproducible, and environmentally friendly method is a considered approach in generating renewable energy materials. Here, hydrogenated amorphous carbon (a-C) films have been successfully prepared from palmyra liquid sugar, employing spin-coating and spraying methods. Compared with the former method, the latter shows a significance in producing a better homogeneity in particle size and film thickness. The obtained films have a thickness of approximately 1000 to 100 nm and contain an sp2 hexagonal structure (~70%) and sp3 tetrahedral configuration (~30%) of carbons. The introduction of boron (B) and nitrogen (N) as dopants has created the local More > Graphic Abstract

Low Temperature H2 Production from Formic Acid Aqueous Solution Catalyzed on Metal Doped Mo2C

    Shuaishuai Zhu1, Zhigang Pan1,2, Yaqiu Tao1,2,*, Yue Chen1,2

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.8, No.8, pp. 939-946, 2020, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2020.011197 - 10 July 2020

Abstract Hydrogen is recognized as a promising energy scours in the close future. Online hydrogen preparation from formic acid under mild reaction conditions causes extensive interests. Mo2C and metal (Fe, Ni, Co, K) doped Mo2C on granular activated carbon (GAC) were prepared and used as heterogeneous catalysts for H2 generation from formic acid on a fixed bed reactor at 100–250°C. The formic acid conversions on doped Mo2C-Me/GAC are clearly improved, especially at lower reaction temperatures. Co doping presents outstanding effect on H2 selectivity and conversion rate compared to Ni and Fe. A 56.3% formic acid conversion was reached on More >

Abstract The plasticizer is an important polymer material additive. Non-toxic and environmentally friendly plasticizers are developed recently in order to decrease fossil fuel reserves, serious environmental pollution and the toxicity of phthalate esters. In this study, a new, efficient and environmentally friendly plasticizer of hydrogenated rosin dodecyl ester was prepared by an esterification reaction of hydrogenated rosin and dodecanol. The influences of different reaction conditions (including different catalysts, the catalyst concentration, the ratio of the reactants, reaction temperature, and reaction time) on the esterification yield are examined and discussed. Abstract The post-embryonic growth of the Arabidopsis thaliana root system can be modified by different types of stress, such as sublethal concentrations of metals, which may induce the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). In this study, the effects of different concentrations of potassium chromate (KCrO4) on the distribution and relative quantity of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) were determined in primary and adventitious roots in A. thaliana HyPer line seedlings. This line has a biosensor that specifically reports H2O2 levels within tissues as fluorescence. Primary root growth was inhibited at 100 μM Cr (VI); in contrast, adventitious root formation was induced… More >
