Abstract Long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) taurine-upregulated gene 1 (TUG1) is involved in the development and carcinogenesis of various tumors, suggesting the diagnostic potential of TUG1 in these cancers. However, the exact role of TUG1 and its underlying mechanism in gastric cancer (GC) remain unknown. In this study, the expression of TUG1 and miR-145-5p in GC cell lines and nonmalignant gastric epithelial cell lines was detected by qRT-PCR. BGC-823 and SGC-7901 cells were transfected with si-TUG1, pcDNA 3.1-TUG1, miR-145-5p mimics, or matched controls. The biological function of TUG1 and miR-145-5p in GC cell proliferation and invasion in… More >

Abstract The long noncoding CPS1 intronic transcript 1 (lncRNA CPS1-IT1) is a recently identified tumor suppressor in the lncRNA family of proteins. Whether this lncRNA plays any functional role in solid tumors remains largely unknown. The present study aimed to investigate the role of lncRNA CPS1-IT1 in human lung cancer. Expression of lncRNA CPS1-IT1 was initially assessed in human lung cancer and in a series of lung cancer cell lines. The effects of CPS1-IT1 overexpression on cell proliferation, migration, and invasion were examined in lung cancer cell lines A549 and 95D. It was found that lncRNA… More >

Abstract Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is one of the most common kidney cancers worldwide. Although great progressions have been made in the past decades, its morbidity and lethality remain increasing. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are demonstrated to play significant roles in the tumorigenesis. This study aimed to investigate the detailed roles of lncRNA FTX in RCC cell proliferation and metastasis. Our results showed that the transcript levels of FTX in both clinical RCC tissues and the cultured RCC cells were significantly upregulated and associated with multiple clinical parameters of RCC patients, including familial status, tumor sizes, More >

    Oncology Research, Vol.24, No.3, pp. 161-170, 2016, DOI:10.3727/096504016X14618564639178

Abstract As a newly identified oncogenic long noncoding RNA (lncRNA), prostate cancer-associated transcript 6 (PCAT6) promoted cellular proliferation and colony formation of prostate cancer. However, the biological function of PCAT6 in lung cancer is still largely unknown. In this study, we found that PCAT6 is significantly increased in cancer tissues compared to normal tissues and positively correlates with metastasis of lung cancer in patients. We then examined PCAT6 expression in lung cancer cell lines and identified that PCAT6 expression was significantly elevated in lung cancer cells compared to normal human bronchial epithelial (NHBE) cells, especially in… More >

Regulation of lncRNA and Its Role in Cancer Metastasis

Juan Li, Hui Meng, Yun Bai, Kai Wang

    Oncology Research, Vol.23, No.5, pp. 205-217, 2015, DOI:10.3727/096504016X14549667334007

Abstract Metastasis is the primary cause of cancer-related death all over the world. Metastasis is a process by which cancer spreads from the place at which it first arose to distant locations in the body. It is well known that several steps are necessary for this process, including cancer cell epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT), cell migration, resistance to anoikis, and angiogenesis. Therefore, investigating the molecular mechanism of regulating cancer metastasis progress may provide helpful insights in the development of efficient diagnosis and therapeutic strategy. Recent studies have indicated that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) play important roles in More >

    Oncology Research, Vol.23, No.6, pp. 303-309, 2015, DOI:10.3727/096504016X14567549091305

Abstract Emerging evidence has identified the vital role of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in the development of colorectal cancer. In this study, we aimed to investigate the role of lncRNA gastric carcinoma highly expressed transcript 1 (GHET1) in colorectal cancer. We analyzed the expression of GHET1 in colorectal cancer (CRC) tissues by using ISH. We found that GHET1 expression was significantly increased in the CRC samples compared with adjacent tissues. Furthermore, the cancer tissues had higher GHET1 mRNA levels than their matched adjacent tissues. GHET1 expression was also significantly increased in the CRC cell lines compared More >
