    HONGYAN LI1,#, CHUNLING LIAO2,#, WENJUAN WENG2, HONGZHEN ZHONG2, TIANBIAO ZHOU2,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.44, No.2, pp. 257-262, 2020, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2020.08826

Abstract In this study, we used a meta-analysis method to evaluate the relationship between hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF1α) 1772C/T gene polymorphism (rs 11549465) and renal cell carcinoma (RCC)/prostate cancer risk. We searched for relevant studies (before March 1, 2019) on Cochrane Library, Embase, and PubMed. Studies meeting the inclusion criteria were recruited into this meta-analysis. The outcome of dichotomous data was showed in the way of odds ratios (OR), and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were also counted. In this investigation, there was no association between HIF1α 1772C/T gene polymorphism and susceptibility to RCC in Caucasians, Asians as well as overall populations. In… More >

Abstract Objective: This study aims to assess and compare the early and long-term effects of extracardiac conduit (EC) and lateral tunnel (LT) in patients with a functional single ventricle through metaanalysis.
Design: A systematic search was performed in PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, CNKI, VIP, CBM, and WanFang databases for papers that were published until August 1, 2016. Cochrane systematic review method was used for paper screening and information retrieve, and RevMan 5.3 software was applied for the meta-analysis.
Results: Data for 10 studies with a total of 3814 patients were retrieved. The advantages of EC comparing to LT include: lower 30… More >

Effects of inspiratory muscle training in chronic heart failure patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis

    Jing Wu1, Li Kuang1, Lijuan Fu2

    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.13, No.2, pp. 194-202, 2018, DOI:10.1111/chd.12586

Abstract Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of inspiratory muscle training (IMT) in chronic heart failure (CHF) patients.
Design: We searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, CINHAL, and CBMdisc to collect controlled trials on the application of inspiratory muscle training in CHF patients from the establishment of these databases to November 2016. Two reviewers independently screened literature according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, extracted data, and assessed the quality of literature. Meta-analysis was conducted by software RevMan5.3.
Results: Eight studies involving 302 patients were identified. Meta-analysis indicated that IMT significantly improved PImax, VE/VCO2 slope and dyspnea… More >

Association between maternal body mass index and congenital heart defects in infants: A meta-analysis

    Yu Zhu1*, Yong Chen1*, Yu Feng2, Di Yu1, Xuming Mo1

    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.13, No.2, pp. 271-281, 2018, DOI:10.1111/chd.12567

Abstract We conducted this meta-analysis to address the open question of a possible association between maternal body mass index (BMI) and congenital heart defects (CHDs) in infants. We conducted a comprehensive computerized search of PubMed, Web of Science, Medline, and Embase databased (January 1980 through August 2017). We assessed the association between maternal BMI and the risk for congenital heart defects in their offspring. Study-specific relative risk estimates were polled according to random-effect or fixed-effect models. From 2567 citations, a total of 13 case-control studies and 4 cohort studies were selected for a meta-analysis, including more than 1 150 000 cases.… More >

Retrieval, reporting and methodological characteristics for systematic reviews/meta-analyses of animal models: a meta-epidemiological study

    Shuzhen SHI1, 2, Ming LIU1, 2, Wenjuan MA1, 2, Ya GAO1, 2, Long GE3, Xiping SHEN3, Jiarui WU4, Junhua ZHANG5, *, Jinhui TIAN1, 2, *

    BIOCELL, Vol.43, No.4, pp. 233-251, 2019, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2019.07624

Abstract The study aimed to analyze the reporting and methodological quality of systematic reviews (SRs)/metaanalyses (MAs) of animal models to provide references for later studies and avoid the waste of medical resources. EMBASE and MEDLINE databases were searched from inception to November 2017, with no language restriction. Two reviewers selected inclusion dependently and extracted the basic characteristics. Review Manager 5.3, stata 12.0, and SPSS 21 software were used to conduct analyses. A total of 46 SRs/MAs were included. The results showed that the English databases with high retrieval frequency are PubMed/MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Web of Science. 67.31% (31/46) of the articles… More >

Meta-analysis of the cell cycle related C12orf48

    LOKMAN VARISLI

    BIOCELL, Vol.37, No.1, pp. 11-16, 2013, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2013.37.011

Abstract The cell cycle is a conserved process from yeast to mammals and focuses on mechanisms that regulate the timing and frequency of DNA replication and cell division. The temporal and spatial expression of the genes is tightly regulated to ensure accurate replication and transmission of DNA to daughter cells during the cycle. Although the genes involved in interphase are well studied, most of the genes which are involved in mitotic events still remain unidentified. Since, the discovery of mitosis related genes is still incomplete, we performed a co-expression and gene ontology analysis for revealing novel mitosis regulated genes. In this… More >

    Glypican-3 versus alpha-fetoprotein as a biomarker for hepatocellular carcinoma: a diagnostic meta-analysis

    Weiyu FU1, Hongyu LU2, Li LI3, Kefeng WU3, Yanping LI3, Yi LIU3,*, Jianli HU4,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.39, No.2-3, pp. 25-32, 2015, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2015.39.025

Abstract Objective: To assess the diagnostic accuracy of serum GPC3 versus alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) for HCC by using the method of system review.
Methods: PubMed and EMBASE were searched from its inception to 20, April 2014 for studies that compared diagnostic accuracy of serum GPC3 with AFP for HCC. Sensitivity, specificity and other measures were pooled using random-effects models. Summary receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was used to summarize the overall test performance.
Results: Fourteen studies were included in this meta-analysis. Summary estimates for serum GPC3 and AFP in diagnosing HCC were as follows: sensitivity, 69% (95% confidence interval (CI), 56-80%) vs.… More >

Wen LI, Junli YANG, Dong ZHOU, Jinghui ZHANG, Qingcui ZHUO

    BIOCELL, Vol.43, No.1, pp. 7-12, 2019, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2019.04763

Abstract The efficacy and safety of ganglioside in the treatment of neonates who suffer from hypoxic–ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) needs to be fully evaluated. We searched the following databases: PubMed, ScienceDirect, LISTA, CNKI, Chinese biomedical literature database and Wanfang digital journals of full-text database to determine the inclusion and exclusion criteria of papers and a total of 12 papers were included after quality evaluation. Then we conducted the meta-analysis with RevMan5.0 software. The results showed that compared with the control group, the abnormal rate declined in the ganglioside-treated group (relative risk (RR)=0.27, 95% confidence interval (CI)= 0.05– 1.96). NBNA records of the… More >
