Wen LI, Junli YANG, Dong ZHOU, Jinghui ZHANG, Qingcui ZHUO

    BIOCELL, Vol.43, No.1, pp. 7-12, 2019, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2019.04763

Abstract The efficacy and safety of ganglioside in the treatment of neonates who suffer from hypoxic–ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) needs to be fully evaluated. We searched the following databases: PubMed, ScienceDirect, LISTA, CNKI, Chinese biomedical literature database and Wanfang digital journals of full-text database to determine the inclusion and exclusion criteria of papers and a total of 12 papers were included after quality evaluation. Then we conducted the meta-analysis with RevMan5.0 software. The results showed that compared with the control group, the abnormal rate declined in the ganglioside-treated group (relative risk (RR)=0.27, 95% confidence interval (CI)= 0.05– More >

Abstract Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a worldwide health threat with increasing incidence and a high mortality rate. Most HCC patients are diagnosed at an advanced stage and are unable to undergo potential curative surgery. Transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) and transcatheter arterial chemotherapy infusion (TACI) are two of the main palliative treatments for advanced HCC patients. The clinical efficacy and safety of TACE and TACI are controversial. For this reason, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to summarize the current evidence. We searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and cohort studies that compared the clinical outcomes… More >

Effects of inspiratory muscle training in chronic heart failure patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis

    Jing Wu1, Li Kuang1, Lijuan Fu2

    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.13, No.2, pp. 194-202, 2018, DOI:10.1111/chd.12586

Abstract Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of inspiratory muscle training (IMT) in chronic heart failure (CHF) patients.
Design: We searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, CINHAL, and CBMdisc to collect controlled trials on the application of inspiratory muscle training in CHF patients from the establishment of these databases to November 2016. Two reviewers independently screened literature according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, extracted data, and assessed the quality of literature. Meta-analysis was conducted by software RevMan5.3.
Results: Eight studies involving 302 patients were identified. Meta-analysis indicated that IMT significantly improved PImax, VE/VCO2 slope and More >

Association between maternal body mass index and congenital heart defects in infants: A meta-analysis

    Yu Zhu1*, Yong Chen1*, Yu Feng2, Di Yu1, Xuming Mo1

    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.13, No.2, pp. 271-281, 2018, DOI:10.1111/chd.12567

Abstract We conducted this meta-analysis to address the open question of a possible association between maternal body mass index (BMI) and congenital heart defects (CHDs) in infants. We conducted a comprehensive computerized search of PubMed, Web of Science, Medline, and Embase databased (January 1980 through August 2017). We assessed the association between maternal BMI and the risk for congenital heart defects in their offspring. Study-specific relative risk estimates were polled according to random-effect or fixed-effect models. From 2567 citations, a total of 13 case-control studies and 4 cohort studies were selected for a meta-analysis, including more… More >

Clinical Value of Capecitabine-Based Combination Adjuvant Chemotherapy in Early Breast Cancer: A Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

Guanling Chen1, Zhaoze Guo1, Minfeng Liu, Guangyu Yao, Jianyu Dong, Jingyun Guo, Changsheng Ye

    Oncology Research, Vol.25, No.9, pp. 1567-1578, 2017, DOI:10.3727/096504017X14897173032733

Abstract Capecitabine has consistently demonstrated high efficacy and acceptable tolerability in salvage chemotherapy for advanced breast cancer. However, there remains no consensus on its role in adjuvant chemotherapy for early breast cancer (EBC). To estimate the value of capecitabine-based combination adjuvant treatment in EBC, eight randomized controlled trials with 14,072 participants were analyzed. The efficacy and safety outcomes included disease-free survival (DFS), overall survival (OS), relapse, breast cancer-specific survival (BCSS), and grades 3–5 adverse events. Capecitabine-based combination adjuvant chemotherapy demonstrated a 16% increase in BCSS (HR = 0.84, 95% CI = 0.71–0.98, p = 0.03) in the… More >

Comparison of extracardiac conduit and lateral tunnel for functional single-ventricle patients: A meta-analysis

Zhiyong Lin, Hanwei Ge, Jiyang Xue, Guowei Wu, Jie Du, Xingti Hu, Qifeng Zhao

    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.12, No.6, pp. 711-720, 2017, DOI:10.1111/chd.12503

Abstract Objective: This study aims to assess and compare the early and long-term effects of extracardiac conduit (EC) and lateral tunnel (LT) in patients with a functional single ventricle through metaanalysis.
Design: A systematic search was performed in PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, CNKI, VIP, CBM, and WanFang databases for papers that were published until August 1, 2016. Cochrane systematic review method was used for paper screening and information retrieve, and RevMan 5.3 software was applied for the meta-analysis.
Results: Data for 10 studies with a total of 3814 patients were retrieved. The advantages of EC comparing to LT include:… More >

Molecularly Targeted Drugs Plus Radiotherapy and Temozolomide Treatment for Newly Diagnosed Glioblastoma: A Meta-Analysis and Systematic Review

Jiahao Su*, Meiqin Cai*, Wensheng Li*, Bo Hou, Haiyong He, Cong Ling,Tengchao Huang, Huijiao Liu, Ying Guo*

    Oncology Research, Vol.24, No.2, pp. 117-128, 2016, DOI:10.3727/096504016X14612603423511

Abstract Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common primary malignant brain tumor that nearly always results in a bad prognosis. Temozolomide plus radiotherapy (TEM+RAD) is the most common treatment for newly diagnosed GBM. With the development of molecularly targeted drugs, several clinical trials were reported; however, the efficacy of the treatment remains controversial. So we attempted to measure the dose of the molecularly targeted drug that could improve the prognosis of those patients. The appropriate electronic databases (PubMed, MEDLINE, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library) were searched for relevant studies. A meta-analysis was performed after determining which studies… More >

Meta-analysis of the cell cycle related C12orf48

    BIOCELL, Vol.37, No.1, pp. 11-16, 2013, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2013.37.011

Abstract The cell cycle is a conserved process from yeast to mammals and focuses on mechanisms that regulate the timing and frequency of DNA replication and cell division. The temporal and spatial expression of the genes is tightly regulated to ensure accurate replication and transmission of DNA to daughter cells during the cycle. Although the genes involved in interphase are well studied, most of the genes which are involved in mitotic events still remain unidentified. Since, the discovery of mitosis related genes is still incomplete, we performed a co-expression and gene ontology analysis for revealing… More >
