Abstract Aim: Scavenger receptor class B, type I (SR-BI) is an integral plasma membrane protein that has been reported to be overexpressed in various malignancies, such as renal cancer, breast cancer, and prostate cancer, and is an independent prognostic factor. However, the clinical value and expression of SR-BI in GC are unknown. Our research aimed to explore the role of SR-BI in combination with immune markers as a diagnostic and prognostic marker for gastric cancer (GC). Methods: GC tissues, paracancerous tissues, and clinicopathological data of 149 patients were collected. The expression level of SR-BI, Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs), and PD-L1 were evaluated… More >

Abstract Background: Colon adenocarcinoma (COAD) is the second leading cause of cancer death worldwide thus, identification of COAD biomarkers is critical. Mitotic Arrest Deficient 2 Like 2 (MAD2L2) is a key factor in mammalian DNA damage repair and is highly expressed in many malignant tumors. This is a comprehensive study of MAD2L2 expression, its diagnostic value, prognostic analysis, potential biological function, and impact on the immune system of patients with COAD. Methods: Gene expression, clinical relevance, prognostic analysis, diagnostic value, GO/KEGG cluster analysis, data obtained from TCGA, and bioinformatics statistical analysis were performed using the R package. Abstract Background: Reticulocalbin 3 (RCN3) has been associated with several malignancies. However, its role in colorectal cancer (CRC) remains controversial. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the role of RCN3 in CRC prognosis. Methods: The clinical significance of RCN3 expression in CRC was evaluated in a large cohort of 483 patients. Normal tissues, carcinoma, para-carcinoma, adenoma, and metastatic tissues were evaluated by immunohistochemistry. We investigated the association between RCN3 expression and CRC occurrence in tumors and other tissues. Prognostic factors were also evaluated by Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and the Cox regression model. Results: RCN3 was significantly overexpressed in CRC and metastatic… More >

Kinesin Motor Protein KIFC1 Is a Target Protein of miR-338-3p and Is Associated With Poor Prognosis and Progression of Renal Cell Carcinoma

Gang Li*, Tie Chong*, Jie Yang, Hongliang Li*, Haiwen Chen*

    Oncology Research, Vol.27, No.1, pp. 125-137, 2019, DOI:10.3727/096504018X15213115046567

Abstract KIFC1 (kinesin family member C1) plays a critical role in clustering of extra centrosomes in various cancer cells and thus could be considered as a promising therapeutic target. However, whether KIFC1 is involved in the procession of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) still remains unclear. In this study, we found that KIFC1 was upregulated in RCC tissues and is responsible for RCC tumorigenesis (p<0.001). The high expression of KIFC1 correlates with aggressive clinicopathologic parameters. Kaplan–Meier analysis suggested that KIFC1 was associated with poor survival prognosis in RCC. Silencing KIFC1 dramatically resulted in inhibition of proliferation, delayed the cell cycle at G2/M… More >

lncRNA FEZF1-AS1 Is Associated With Prognosis in Lung Adenocarcinoma and Promotes Cell Proliferation, Migration, and Invasion

Zhenjun Liu*, Pei Zhao*, Yuping Han, Song Lu*

    Oncology Research, Vol.27, No.1, pp. 39-45, 2019, DOI:10.3727/096504018X15199482824130

Abstract Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been reported to play important roles in tumorigenesis. In the present study, we demonstrated that lncRNA forebrain embryonic zinc finger protein 1 (FEZF1) antisense RNA1 (FEZF1-AS1) is markedly upregulated in human lung adenocarcinoma (LAD) tissues and cell lines and is associated with poor prognosis. Loss of function revealed that deletion of FEZF1-AS1 expression significantly inhibited the LAD cell proliferation, invasion, and migration. Further studies revealed that downregulation of FEZF1-AS1 reduced mRNA and protein expression of its sense-cognate gene FEZF1 in LAD cells, and vice versa. Correlation analysis indicated that there was a positive correlation between… More >

    Oncology Research, Vol.27, No.9, pp. 1025-1034, 2019, DOI:10.3727/096504018X15456687424096

Abstract miR-802 has been reported to be dysregulated in multiple tumors and contribute to tumor progression. However, its role in HCC was still largely unknown. The aim of this study is to investigate the function and mechanism of miR-802 in HCC progression. The results showed that miR-802 was upregulated in the peripheral blood and tumor tissue of HCC patients, and high levels of blood miR-802 predicted poor prognosis. miR-802 had no effect on the proliferation and migration of HCC cell lines. Interestingly, the levels of CD8/CD28 and regulated in development and DNA damage response 1 (REDD1) were declined along with the… More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.45, No.4, pp. 911-921, 2021, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2021.010119

Abstract Distal gastric cancer (DGC) is a subgroup of gastric cancer (GC), which has different molecular characteristics from proximal gastric cancer (PGC). These differences result in different overall survival (OS) rates; however, data pertaining to the survival rate in PGC or DGC are contradictory. This suggests that the location of GC is not the unique cause of the different survival rates, while the molecular characteristics might be more important factors determining the prognosis of DGC. Therefore, the aim of this study was to discover key prognostic factors in DGC using bioinformatic methods and to explore the potential molecular mechanism. The Cancer… More >

Abstract The chemokine ligand 13-chemokine receptor 5 (CXCL13-CXCR5) axis has been characterized as a critical tumor-promoting signaling pathway in the tumor microenvironment (TME) in multiple types of solid tumors. In this study, we analyzed the expression profile of CXCL13 in kidney clear cell carcinoma (KIRC) and its correlation with tumor-infiltrating immune cells (TIICs). A monoclonal antibody against CXCL13 with high affinity and purity was generated in our lab for western blot and immunohistochemistry (IHC). Bioinformatic analysis was performed based on bulk-seq data from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA)-KIRC and single-cell RNA-seq data from scRNASeqDB and PanglaoDB. Results showed that high CXCL13More >

Elevated nuclear phospho-eIF4E body levels are associated with tumor progression and poor prognosis for acute myeloid leukemia

    HONG ZHOU1,*, XIAOFENG JIA1,2, FAN YANG1

    BIOCELL, Vol.45, No.3, pp. 711-722, 2021, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2021.014193

Abstract Uncontrolled proliferation is a hallmark of cancer cells, yet the molecular mechanisms that contribute to this proliferation are unclear. Therapeutic treatment of cancer is suboptimal in many cases, with no accurate index by which to evaluate the success of treatment or patient prognosis. In this study, we explored the protein levels of nuclear phosphoeIF4E in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cell lines and primary leukemia samples by Western blot and immunofluorescence and as well analyzed transcriptomes by RNA-seq. We found nuclear phospho-eIF4E, an exporter of oncogenic mRNAs, to be abundant in AML. Further, nuclear phospho-eIF4E abundance was significantly associated with tumor… More >
