JIAMING ZHAN, WEIHUA WANG, YANLEI TANG, NING ZHOU, DAOWEN JIANG*

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.12, pp. 2601-2613, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.021300 - 10 August 2022

Abstract Esophageal cancer (EC) was an aggressive malignant neoplasm characterized by high morbidity and poor prognosis. Identifying the changes in DNA damage repair genes helps to better understand the mechanisms of carcinoma progression. In this study, by comparing EC samples and normal samples, we found a total of 132 DDR expression with a significant difference. Moreover, we revealed higher expression of POLN, PALB2, ATM, PER1, TOP3B and lower expression of HMGB1, UBE2B were correlated to longer OS in EC. In addition, a prognostic risk score based on 7 DDR gene expression (POLN, HMGB1, TOP3B, PER1, UBE2B,… More >

Abstract Background: The effective method for predicting prognosis of ICC is still lack. This study aims to establish and verify an effective prognostic nomogram model for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC) after partial hepatectomy. Materials and Methods: A nomogram model was developed in a cohort of 127 patients from January 2015 to December 2019. General clinical characteristics including preoperative physical examination data and postoperative pathological features were obtained. The independent risk factors identified by univariate and multivariate COX proportional hazards regression models were used to construct nomogram model. Predictive accuracy and discriminative ability were determined using a concordance index and… More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.10, pp. 2291-2301, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.020198 - 13 June 2022

Abstract This study used transcriptome and epigenetic data to predict the prognosis of immune-related genes (IRGs) Apelin (APLN) in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The TCGA database has gene expression and clinical data for HCC. And DNA methylation 450 k data for HCC was download from the University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC) Xena browser. Performing clinical and prognostic analysis of APLN expression, results show that APLN is highly expressed in tumor samples. And it has an increasing trend with the development of clinical stage and T stage. To explore the prognostic role of APLN, the… More >

Weighted gene co-expression network analysis identifies a novel immune-related gene signature and nomogram to predict the survival and immune infiltration status of breast cancer

    JUNXIA LIU1, KE PANG2, FEI HE2,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.7, pp. 1661-1673, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.018023 - 17 March 2022

Abstract Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world and seriously threatens the health of women worldwide. Prognostic models based on immune-related genes help to improve the prognosis prediction and clinical treatment of breast cancer patients. In the study, we used weighted gene co-expression network analysis to construct a co-expression network to screen out highly prognostic immune-related genes. Subsequently, the prognostic immune-related gene signature was successfully constructed from highly immune-related genes through COX regression and LASSO COX analysis. Survival analysis and time receiver operating characteristic curves indicate that the prognostic signature has More >

Prognostic, diagnostic and therapeutic potential of endothelial progenitor cells for patients with ischaemic stroke: Hype or Hope

    ULVI BAYRAKTUTAN*

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.7, pp. 1593-1598, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.018679 - 17 March 2022

Abstract Ischaemic stroke is a debilitating disease with immense personal, societal and economic impact. Thrombolysis with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator remains the only approved pharmacotherapy for this disease. As each year less than 1% of eligible patients receive this therapy worldwide, efficacious new therapeutics are desperately needed. Emerging evidence suggest endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs), capable of repairing damaged vasculature, as one such therapeutics. However, questions regarding their optimal dose, delivery route and in vivo survivability remain largely unanswered. Outgrowth endothelial cells, generated in large numbers by ex vivo expansion of EPCs, enable effective assessment of these More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.72, No.1, pp. 243-259, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.023864 - 24 February 2022

Abstract Data is always a crucial issue of concern especially during its prediction and computation in digital revolution. This paper exactly helps in providing efficient learning mechanism for accurate predictability and reducing redundant data communication. It also discusses the Bayesian analysis that finds the conditional probability of at least two parametric based predictions for the data. The paper presents a method for improving the performance of Bayesian classification using the combination of Kalman Filter and K-means. The method is applied on a small dataset just for establishing the fact that the proposed algorithm can reduce the More >

    Gaozheng Zhao1, Changchao Liu1, Lingyu Sun1, Ning Yang2, Lei Zhang1, Mingshun Jiang1, Lei Jia1, Qingmei Sui1,*

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.16, No.1, pp. 81-96, 2022, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2022.016905 - 11 February 2022

Abstract Fatigue crack prediction is a critical aspect of prognostics and health management research. The particle filter algorithm based on Lamb wave is a potential tool to solve the nonlinear and non-Gaussian problems on fatigue growth, and it is widely used to predict the state of fatigue crack. This paper proposes a method of lamb wave-based early fatigue microcrack prediction with the aid of particle filters. With this method, which the changes in signal characteristics under different fatigue crack lengths are analyzed, and the state- and observation-equations of crack extension are established. Furthermore, an experiment is More >
