    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.3, pp. 6429-6444, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.031817 - 28 December 2022

Abstract The exponential growth of data necessitates an effective data storage scheme, which helps to effectively manage the large quantity of data. To accomplish this, Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) digital data storage process can be employed, which encodes and decodes binary data to and from synthesized strands of DNA. Vector quantization (VQ) is a commonly employed scheme for image compression and the optimal codebook generation is an effective process to reach maximum compression efficiency. This article introduces a new DNA Computing with Water Strider Algorithm based Vector Quantization (DNAC-WSAVQ) technique for Data Storage Systems. The proposed DNAC-WSAVQ… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.2, pp. 3291-3303, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.026259 - 16 June 2022

Abstract Acoustic scene classification (ASC) is a method of recognizing and classifying environments that employ acoustic signals. Various ASC approaches based on deep learning have been developed, with convolutional neural networks (CNNs) proving to be the most reliable and commonly utilized in ASC systems due to their suitability for constructing lightweight models. When using ASC systems in the real world, model complexity and device robustness are essential considerations. In this paper, we propose a two-pass mobile network for low-complexity classification of the acoustic scene, named TP-MobNet. With inverse residuals and linear bottlenecks, TP-MobNet is based on… More >

    Krishan Kumar1,*, Mohamed Abouhawwash2,3, Amit Kant Pandit1, Shubham Mahajan1, Mofreh A. Hogo4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.1, pp. 1977-1993, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.027850 - 18 May 2022

Abstract The high-efficiency video coder (HEVC) is one of the most advanced techniques used in growing real-time multimedia applications today. However, they require large bandwidth for transmission through bandwidth, and bandwidth varies with different video sequences/formats. This paper proposes an adaptive information-based variable quantization matrix (AI-VQM) developed for different video formats having variable energy levels. The quantization method is adapted based on video sequence using statistical analysis, improving bit budget, quality and complexity reduction. Further, to have precise control over bit rate and quality, a multi-constraint prune algorithm is proposed in the second stage of the… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.72, No.2, pp. 2683-2696, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.025642 - 29 March 2022

Abstract Due to latest advancements in the field of remote sensing, it becomes easier to acquire high quality images by the use of various satellites along with the sensing components. But the massive quantity of data poses a challenging issue to store and effectively transmit the remote sensing images. Therefore, image compression techniques can be utilized to process remote sensing images. In this aspect, vector quantization (VQ) can be employed for image compression and the widely applied VQ approach is Linde–Buzo–Gray (LBG) which creates a local optimum codebook for image construction. The process of constructing the… More >

A Resource-Efficient Convolutional Neural Network Accelerator Using Fine-Grained Logarithmic Quantization

    Hadee Madadum*, Yasar Becerikli

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.33, No.2, pp. 681-695, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.023831 - 08 February 2022

Abstract Convolutional Neural Network (ConNN) implementations on Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) are being studied since the computational capabilities of FPGA have been improved recently. Model compression is required to enable ConNN deployment on resource-constrained FPGA devices. Logarithmic quantization is one of the efficient compression methods that can compress a model to very low bit-width without significant deterioration in performance. It is also hardware-friendly by using bitwise operations for multiplication. However, the logarithmic suffers from low resolution at high inputs due to exponential properties. Therefore, we propose a modified logarithmic quantization method with a fine resolution More >

Criminal Persons Recognition Using Improved Feature Extraction Based Local Phase Quantization

    P. Karuppanan1,*, K. Dhanalakshmi2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.33, No.2, pp. 1025-1043, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.023712 - 08 February 2022

Abstract Facial recognition is a trending technology that can identify or verify an individual from a video frame or digital image from any source. A major concern of facial recognition is achieving the accuracy on classification, precision, recall and F1-Score. Traditionally, numerous techniques involved in the working principle of facial recognition, as like Principle Component Analysis (PCA), Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA), Subspace Decomposition Method, Eigen Feature extraction Method and all are characterized as instable, poor generalization which leads to poor classification. But the simplified method is feature extraction by comparing the particular facial features of the… More >

Unified FPGA Design for the HEVC Dequantization and Inverse Transform Modules

Turki M. Alanazi, Ahmed Ben Atitallah*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.3, pp. 4319-4335, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.022988 - 14 January 2022

Abstract As the newest standard, the High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) is specially designed to minimize the bitrate for video data transfer and to support High Definition (HD) and ULTRA HD video resolutions at the cost of increasing computational complexity relative to earlier standards like the H.264. Therefore, real-time video decoding with HEVC decoder becomes a challenging task. However, the Dequantization and Inverse Transform (DE/IT) are one of the computationally intensive modules in the HEVC decoder which are used to reconstruct the residual block. Thus, in this paper, a unified hardware architecture is proposed to implement… More >

    Palli Padmini1, C. Paramasivam1, G. Jyothish Lal2, Sadeen Alharbi3,*, Kaustav Bhowmick4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.70, No.2, pp. 4027-4051, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.020065 - 27 September 2021

Abstract The present work presents a statistical method to translate human voices across age groups, based on commonalities in voices of blood relations. The age-translated voices have been naturalized extracting the blood relation features e.g., pitch, duration, energy, using Mel Frequency Cepstrum Coefficients (MFCC), for social compatibility of the voice-impaired. The system has been demonstrated using standard English and an Indian language. The voice samples for resynthesis were derived from 12 families, with member ages ranging from 8–80 years. The voice-age translation, performed using the Pitch synchronous overlap and add (PSOLA) approach, by modulation of extracted voice… More >
