    M. Sathish Kumar, N. Sandeep* , B. Rushi Kumar

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.8, pp. 1-8, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.8.13

Abstract Nowadays external magnetic fields are capable of setting the thermal and physical properties of magnetic-nanofluids and regulate the flow and heat transfer characteristics. The strength of the applied magnetic field affects the thermal conductivity of magnetic nanofluids and makes it aeolotropic. With this incentive, we investigate the flow and heat transfer of electrically conducting liquid film flow of Carreau nanofluid over a stretching sheet by considering the aligned magnetic field in the presence of space and temperature dependent heat source/sink and viscous dissipation. For this study, we considered kerosene as the base fluid embedded with the silver (Ag) and copper… More >

    P. Sreenivasulua,*, T. Poornimab,†, N. Bhaskar Reddyc

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.9, pp. 1-7, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.9.20

Abstract This paper examines the variable thermal conductivity influence on MHD flow past a thermally stratified stretching cylinder with heat source or sink. The governing partial differential equations of the flow field are converted to a system of non-linear coupled similarity ordinary differential equations. Employing Shooting technique followed by Runge-Kutta method, the system is solved numerically. The effects of the various physical parameters countered in the flow field on the velocity, temperature as well as the skin friction coefficient and the rate of heat transfer near the wall are computed and illustrated graphically. Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.9, pp. 1-7, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.9.13

Abstract In this work, the steady natural convective boundary layer flow of nanofluid and heat transfer over a stretching sheet in the presence of a uniform transverse magnetic field is investigated. We consider two different base fluids and three different nanoparticles were examined as nanofluid. A new model was used in the simulation of nanofluid. Similarity transformations are used to obtain a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The resulting equations are solved numerically by shooting method with Runge-Kutta fourth order scheme (MATLAB package). The effects of various parameters describing the transport in the presence of thermal radiation, buoyancy parameter, magnetic… More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.9, pp. 1-8, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.9.4

Abstract This article presents the effect of nonlinear thermal radiation on boundary layer flow and heat transfer of Carreau fluid model over a nonlinear stretching sheet embedded in a porous medium in the presence of non-uniform heat source/sink and viscous dissipation with convective boundary condition. The governing partial differential equations with the corresponding boundary conditions are reduced to a set of ordinary differential equations using similarity transformation, which is then solved numerically by the fourth-fifth order Runge–Kutta-Fehlberg integration scheme featuring a shooting technique. The influence of significant parameters such as power law index parameter, Stretching parameter, Weissenberg number, permeability parameter, temperature… More >

    Emran Khoshrouye Ghiasi, Reza Saleh*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.12, pp. 1-7, 2019, DOI:10.5098/hmt.12.4

Abstract In this paper, two-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow of Casson fluid over a fixed plate under non-uniform heat source/sink and Joule heating is analyzed by the homotopy analysis method (HAM). The governing boundary-layer equations have been reduced to the ordinary differential equations (ODEs) through the similarity variables. The current HAM-series solution is compared and successfully validated by the previous studies. Furthermore, the effects of thermo-physical parameters on the current solution are precisely examined. It is found that the skin friction coefficient and local Nusselt number are greatly affected by the Hartmann number. It can be concluded that employing the Casson fluid… More >

AN ITERTIVE DESIGN METHOD TO REDUCE THE OVERALL THERMAL RESISTANCE IN A CONJUGATE CONDUCTION-FREE CONVECTION CONFIGURATION

    Chadwick D. Sevart* , Theodore L. Bergman

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.13, pp. 1-18, 2019, DOI:10.5098/hmt.13.18

Abstract A design approach is proposed and demonstrated to identify desirable two-dimensional solid geometries, cooled by natural convection, that offer superior thermal performance in terms of reduced overall (conduction-convection) thermal resistance. The approach utilizes (i) heat transfer modeling in conjunction with (ii) various novel shape evolution rules. Predictions demonstrate the evolution of the solid shape and associated reduction of the overall thermal resistance. Parametric simulations reveal the dependence of the predicted solid shape on the evolution rule employed, the thermal conductivity of the solid material, and the strength of advection within the fluid.
