Use of Scrapped Rubber Tires for Sustainable Construction of Manhole Covers

    Sadaqat Ullah Khan1, Afzal Ahmed1,*, Sajjad Ali2, Ayesha Ayub2, Ahmed Shuja1, Muhammad Ahsan Shahid1

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.9, No.5, pp. 1013-1029, 2021, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2021.014344

Abstract Scrapped tires from vehicles are produced in large quantities. Despite numerous existing uses of scrapped tires, a large quantity ends up at the landfill sites, which contributes to environmental degradation. The development of more applications of scrapped tire usage can reduce the disposal of tires at landfill sites. This research proposes a novel use of scrapped tires by using the strips taken from scrapped tires in replacement of steel bars as reinforcement. Manhole covers were produced using scrapped tires by completely replacing the steel with scrapped tires. Four different samples of manhole covers were prepared and tested. The highest bearing… More >

Green Energy Development System under the Background of Environmental Sustainability

    Qin Liu*, Ruliang Zhang

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.1, pp. 173-187, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2020.012788

Abstract With the continuous advancement of economic globalization, energy demand is expanding and energy consumption is excessive, which leads to energy shortage. Unreasonable energy use also brings great challenges to the environment and affects the balance of the ecosystem seriously. The rise of the third industrial revolution has injected new vitality into energy system. The construction of energy Internet system, which integrates Internet technology and energy technology, has become a new energy system of sustainable development. It has put forward the reform scheme for the mismatch of energy demand points and environmental pollution. The deepening of sustainable development strategy accelerates the… More >

Analysis of Factors that Affect Government Digitization: A Pilot Case Study of Pakistan

    Salman Ahmed*, Muhammad Ali Khan

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.66, No.1, pp. 291-301, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.012066

Abstract One of the greatest factors that affects the economic condition of a country is its institutions. In the model of good governance, the primary elements for stronger institution include efficiency, transparency, and accountability; and technology plays a major role in improving these elements. However, there are myriad of challenges when it comes to practical integration of technology in these institutions for efficiency. It is more challenging when a country is developing and one that is already weak economically. It is also important to mention that the challenges of digitization in public sector is not limited to developing countries only. It… More >

An Energy Efficiency Improvement Method for Manufacturing Process Based on ECRSR

    Haiming Sun1,3, Quande Dong2,*, Cuixia Zhang2, Jianqing Chen3,4

    Energy Engineering, Vol.117, No.3, pp. 153-164, 2020, DOI:10.32604/EE.2020.010706

Abstract The improvement of energy efficiency is considered as one of the keys to the sustainable development of manufacturing enterprises. This paper proposes an energy efficiency improvement method for the manufacturing process. Based on the analysis of the characteristics of energy consumption in the manufacturing process, a necessary energy consumption model, an assistant energy consumption model and an ineffective energy consumption model are constructed for identifying the energy consumption attributes of the manufacturing process. Then, the relationship model of energy consumption is built, and the energy efficiency improvement method for the manufacturing process is proposed based on ECRSR (Elimination, Combination, Rearrangement,… More >

Review of Microplastic Pollution in the Environment and Emerging Recycling Solutions

    Gregory Reimonn1, Taofeng Lu1, Neeti Gandhi2, Wan-Ting Chen1,*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.7, No.12, pp. 1251-1268, 2019, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2019.08055

Abstract Microplastic pollution represents a side-effect stemming from a global plastic waste mismanagement problem and includes degraded particles or mass produced plastic particles less than 5 mm in largest dimension. The small nature of microplastics gives this area of pollution different environmental concerns than general plastic waste in the environment. The biological toxicity of particles, their internal components, and their surface level changes all present opportunities for these particles to adversely affect the environment around them. Thus, it is necessary to review the current literature surrounding this topic and identify areas where the study of microplastic can be pushed forward. Here… More >

Systematically Monitoring, Relational Database and Technology Roadmapping for Trends and Innovation Opportunities in Biopolymers

    Selma B. Jaconis1,*, Augusto T. Morita2, Paulo L. A. Coutinho3, Suzana Borschiver1

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.7, No.11, pp. 1221-1230, 2019, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2019.00025

Abstract In recent years environmental and sustainability concerns have impacted the global chemical industry and instituted a rush to produce products from renewable raw materials. This dynamic, complex and turbulent organizational scenario, around themes touching on the issue of sustainable development model, was created involving a large number of different actors: chemical/petrochemical industries, agroindustry companies, oil/gas companies, brand owners and end users, biotechnology startups, governments, universities and society. This paper proposed the application of a structured and dynamic method of technological prediction for biopolymers in three levels: systematic monitoring process, relational database and the “alive” Technology Roadmapping visualization tool. The main… More >
