Abstract Chilling stress on cereal crops is the major form of cold stress that appears in some regions, and causes significant losses by depressing seed germination, and seedling growth and establishment. Hormones have the ability to reduce the stress effects in crops by various mechanisms. To determine the role of nitric oxide in mitigating chilling damages in wheat, two trials were conducted and seven wheat varieties were used. Seeds of wheat varieties after priming using three different concentrations (0, 10-4, 10-5 M) of sodium nitroprusside as nitric oxide donor were grown under two growth conditions (control, 4… More >

    Ron MM, T Loewy

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.86, pp. 68-73, 2017, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2017.86.068

Abstract In the southwest of Buenos Aires Province (Argentina) nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) deficiencies are important wheat yield limiting factors. The objective of this paper was to report on the comparative effectiveness of diammonium phosphate (DAP) and triple superphosphate (TSP) in the area covering a range of soils and years. Between 1983 and 1992, 13 experiments were carried out in farmer’s fields. Soils were classified as Ustolls and Udolls. The design of the experiments was of complete randomized split blocks. Horizontal treatments were P-sources (DAP and TSP) and rates (0 to 135 kg/ha). Vertical treatments… More >

Use of diammonium phosphate on wheat grown in southwestern Buenos Aires (Argentina)

    Ron MM, T Loewy

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.85, pp. 15-20, 2016, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2016.85.015

Abstract In the southwest of Buenos Aires Province (Argentina), nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) deficiencies are important wheat yield limiting factors. There is an information gap regarding differences between single element and binary N-P sources. The objective of this paper was to develop a general model for N-P fertilization in the area that also quantified diammonium phosphate (DAP) effect and its interactions with N-urea, applied at sowing or tillering, as compared with triple superphosphate (TSP). Between 1984 and 1985, 13 experiments were carried out in farmer’s fields N. With the yield data for each experiment, a… More >

Analyzing digital color descriptors in wheat

    Salomón N1, V Misller1, C Delrieux2, R Miranda3

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.84, No.2, pp. 306-311, 2015, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2015.84.306

Abstract Color is one of the factors used in quality estimation in many agricultural and food products. Currently, the evaluation of color depends on judgments made by human experts. These are subjective and inevitably affected by physical, physiological and environmental conditions. Suitable instrumental is required to provide objectivity and coherence to color measurements and quantitative expressions. It would be very useful to have tools that allow both practical and precise approaches to chromatic evaluation of products for human consumption. This work suggests a methodology which might contribute to solve that constraint and the analysis of environmental… More >
