    Rihem Farkh1,2, Yasser Fouad1,*, Haykel Marouani1

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.30, No.3, pp. 837-851, 2021, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2021.018214 - 20 August 2021

Abstract In industrial practice, certain processes are unstable, such as different types of reactors, distillation columns, and combustion systems. To ensure greater maneuverability and improve the speed of response command, certain systems in the military and aviation fields are purposely configured to be unstable. These systems are often more difficult to control than stable systems and are of particular interest to designers and control engineers. Despite all advances in process control over the past six decades, the proportional–integral–derivative (PID) controller is still the most common. The main reasons are the simplicity, robustness, and successful applications provided… More >

Abstract The aeronautics and aerospace industries often require special-shaped parts made from lightweight materials with a constant resistance, such as filament winding composite elbows and tees. Filament winding patterns can be realized using numerically controlled filament winding machines. Herein, a 3-axis computer controlled filament winding machine is proposed to solve existing problems with winding of composite elbows such as inconsistent quality, low productivity, and high costs. In this study, a geodesic winding equation for the torus and non-geodesic winding equation for the cylindrical sections of the elbow are provided and the winding angle α’ is optimized. More >

Abstract This paper suggests a combined novel control strategy for DFIG based wind power systems (WPS) under both nonlinear and unbalanced load conditions. The combined control approach is designed by coordinating the machine side converter (MSC) and the load side converter (LSC) control approaches. The proposed MSC control approach is designed by using a model predictive control (MPC) approach to generate appropriate real and reactive power. The MSC controller selects an appropriate rotor voltage vector by using a minimized optimization cost function for the converter operation. It shows its superiority by eliminating the requirement of transformation,… More >

Abstract This paper presents an energy efficient successive-approximation register (SAR) analog-to-digital converter (ADC) for low-power applications. To improve the overall energy-efficiency, a skipping-window technique is used to bypass corresponding conversion steps when the input falls in a window indicated by a time-domain comparator, which can provide not only the polarity of the input, but also the amount information of the input. The time-domain comparator, which is based on the edge pursing principle, consists of delay cells, two NAND gates, two D-flip-flop register-based phase detectors and a counter. The digital characteristic of the comparator makes the design… More >
