    Louis Francois Marie1,*, Sunkara Prudhvi Raj2, Policherla Venkata Sai3, Tara MacLeod1, Morapakala Srinivas2, K. Srinivas Reddy3, Tadhg Seán O’Donovan4

    Energy Engineering, Vol.117, No.5, pp. 323-342, 2020, DOI:10.32604/EE.2020.011035 - 07 September 2020

Abstract Non-centrifugal cane sugar (NCS), known as Jaggery, is a form of unre- fined sugar which contains molasses. The integration of renewable energy resources in the production of NCS, have been analysed. The work investigates the energy requirements of a system incorporating a freeze-concentrator and a solar thermal heater to reduce the reliance on the combustion of bagasse or other fuels in a Jaggery production process. Depending on the extent to which freeze concentration can be incorporated into the process, results show that the minimum theoretical energy required to produce Jaggery can be reduced by 91.30%… More >

Abstract This research studied catalytic reforming mechanism of low concentration alcohol, analyzed the producing conditions and influencing factors of a mixture of combustible gas, took an analysis towards the composition of the mixture produced by reforming, and studied the respective effects of temperature, traffic, alcohol concentration and catalyst on the components of mixed gas. It is found that, under different working conditions of the engine, the external condition of the reforming reaction changes, and the composition of the reforming gas will differ as well. As a result, the optimum air-fuel ratio of the engine must at More >

Abstract A multichannel temperature measurement system based on LabVIEW and modular instruments with general purpose input/output interface is described. External simple electronic components, such as analog switches arrays, sampling resistors and voltage reference are used to expand the analog input channel of the instrument. The interface circuit for 3-wire resistance temperature device powered by the voltage reference was designed and constructed. The feasibility of filtering algorithm based on moving average filter and the data conversion method by direct computation of the polynomial are verified in LabVIEW. A comparison test with the commercial temperature measurement instrument is… More >

    Xing Deng1,2, Haijian Shao1,2,*, Xia Wang3,4

    Energy Engineering, Vol.117, No.5, pp. 289-299, 2020, DOI:10.32604/EE.2020.011126 - 07 September 2020

Abstract Wind speed’s distribution nature such as uncertainty and randomness imposes a challenge in high accuracy forecasting. Based on the energy distribution about the extracted amplitude and associated frequency, the uncertainty measurement is processed through Rényi entropy analysis method with time-frequency nature. Nonparametric statistical method is used to test the randomness of wind speed, more precisely, whether or not the wind speed time series is independent and identically distribution (i.i.d) based on the output probability. Seasonal characteristics of wind speed are analyzed based on self-similarity in periodogram under scales range generated by wavelet transformation to reasonably More >

Deep Learning Approach with Optimizatized Hidden-Layers Topology for Short-Term Wind Power Forecasting

    Xing Deng1,2, Haijian Shao1,2,*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.117, No.5, pp. 279-287, 2020, DOI:10.32604/EE.2020.011619 - 07 September 2020

Abstract Recurrent neural networks (RNNs) as one of the representative deep learning methods, has restricted its generalization ability because of its indigestion hidden-layer information presentation. In order to properly handle of hidden-layer information, directly reduce the risk of over-fitting caused by too many neuron nodes, as well as realize the goal of streamlining the number of hidden layer neurons, and then improve the generalization ability of RNNs, the hidden-layer information of RNNs is precisely analyzed by using the unsupervised clustering methods, such as Kmeans, Kmeans++ and Iterative self-organizing data analysis (Isodata), to divide the similarity of More >

    Hua Tian1, Ke Kang1, Lingfeng Shi2,*, Rui Sun1

    Energy Engineering, Vol.117, No.5, pp. 267-277, 2020, DOI:10.32604/EE.2020.011440 - 07 September 2020

Abstract The anti-sublimation CO2 capture technology has attracted the attention of researchers due to its advantages such as no pollution and high product purity. The anti-sublimation process is the core link of this technology, so the study of this process is of great significance to the low-temperature capture system. At present, there are few research works on the CO2 anti-sublimation process. In order to study the influence of key parameters on the capture performance during CO2 anti-sublimation, a one-dimensional steady-state of CO2 anti-sublimation process in a double pipe heat exchanger was established based on the mixture gas of N2 More >

New Correlations for Determination of Optimum Slope Angle of Solar Collectors

Ali Khosravi1,*, Oscar Ricardo Sandoval Rodriguez2, Behnam Talebjedi1, Timo Laukkanen1, Juan Jose Garcia Pabon3, Mamdouh El Haj Assad4

    Energy Engineering, Vol.117, No.5, pp. 249-265, 2020, DOI:10.32604/EE.2020.011024 - 07 September 2020

Abstract The energy coming from solar radiation could be harvested and transformed into electricity through the use of solar-thermal power generation and photovoltaic (PV) power generation. Placement of solar collectors (thermal and photovoltaic) affects the amount of incoming radiation and the absorption rate. In this research, new correlations for finding the monthly optimum slope angle (OSA) on flat-plate collectors are proposed. Twelve equations are developed to calculate the monthly OSA by the linear regression model, for the northern and the southern hemisphere stations from 15° to 55° and –20° to –45°, respectively. Also, a new equation More >

    Lei Li1,2,3,*, Leren Tao2,3, Yanan Gou1, Shan Zhang1

    Energy Engineering, Vol.117, No.4, pp. 225-235, 2020, DOI:10.32604/EE.2020.010892 - 31 July 2020

Abstract The scroll expander used in organic Rankine cycle (ORC) system is improved, and its performance is analyzed experimentally. The modified profile and inlet hole of the scroll expander are enhanced, and the performance of the scroll expander before and after the improvement is analyzed. The results show that when the inlet pressure exceeds 0.7 MPa, the waist-shaped hole with a larger area is preferable. The scroll expander with a waist-shaped hole has a larger output power and wider optimal pressure range, and when the inlet pressure is 1.6 MPa, the maximum output power increases by More >

    Energy Engineering, Vol.117, No.4, pp. 209-224, 2020, DOI:10.32604/EE.2020.010567 - 31 July 2020

Abstract A R1234ze(E) based mixture was investigated as a promising environmental solution to enhance system performance of a transctitical organic Rankine cycle(TORC). The main purpose of this study is to research the thermodynamic properties of TORC system using R1234ze(E)/R134a mixtures with various mass fraction of R1234ze(E) when recovering engine exhaust heat. R1234ze(E) was selected due to its zero ozone depletion potential, relative lower global warming potential and it can remedy the thermodynamic properties of traditional working fluid R134a. Thermal analysis and optimization about expander inlet temperature and pressure of TORC, mass fraction of R134a in R134a/R1234ze(E)… More >
