Jiang-teng LI, Ping CAO, Hang LIN, Xiang-yang ZHANG

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.20, No.4, pp. 109-110, 2011, DOI:10.3970/icces.2011.020.109

Abstract Rock will be soften and weakened its physics mechanics parameters by water, then resulting in the deterioration of stability of geotechnical engineering. The effects of water on creep damage parameters of rock become more distinct for pore water dissipation with time passing. So it is important to study the damage parameters by creep effect under the water-saturated condition.

In the present paper, a set of uniaxial compression creep experiments of plagioclase specimens were performed under dry and water-saturated in Jinchuan Mine a.! by a circular increment step load and unload method using RYL-600 Shear Rheometer.… More >

Linggang Kong, Yunmin Chen, Yanguo Zhou, Jianqun Jiang

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.20, No.4, pp. 107-108, 2011, DOI:10.3970/icces.2011.020.107

Abstract To investigate geotechnical systems, high gravity is needed due to the dominance of material self-weight. A centrifuge is a common technique to generate high gravity, which causes centrifugal acceleration. In geotechnical physical modeling, geotechnical centrifuge can generate the same gravity stress as the prototype, guarantees the consistency of model deformation and failure mechanism between the centrifugal model and real objects and solve complex problems in geotechnical engineering, hydraulic engineering and environmental engineering etc. In view of the scientific values of centrifuge and shaking table, Zhejiang University develops one of the largest geotechnical centrifuges in China.… More >

The regularized indirect algorithm in BEM for calculating values on and near boundaries

    H.B. Chen

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.20, No.4, pp. 105-106, 2011, DOI:10.3970/icces.2011.020.105

Abstract The calculation of field values and their derivatives near the domain boundary through the boundary element method (BEM) will meet the nearly singularity problem, i.e. the boundary layer effect problem. The tangential derivatives of field values on the boundary often meet an obvious deduction of calculation accuracy. An effective algorithm was proposed by Chen et al. [1,2] to treat these two problems in the same time in elastic BEM and it was recently extended to calculate the second derivative values in potential problem [3]. This algorithm is based on the regularized formulations and is now More >

Test investigation on fish-shaped pile subjected to torque in silt

    Lianhua Yuan

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.20, No.4, pp. 103-104, 2011, DOI:10.3970/icces.2011.020.103

Abstract The torsional capacity of general circular section pile comes mainly from the tangential friction between pile and soil. But the pile - soil interface can provide a limited tangential friction. So the bearing capacity of general circular cross section pile is less. Pile does not bear more torque at a small torsion angle. Then the torsion angle of the pile develops rapidly.

This report presents a experiment on the transformed pile subjected to torque. In this experiment, the steel pipe pile with a closed end is welded with pairs of steel flank pieces on the… More >

    Renpeng Chen

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.20, No.4, pp. 101-102, 2011, DOI:10.3970/icces.2011.020.101

Abstract In China, high-speed transportation infrastructure, including high-speed railways and highways, develops rapidly in recent years. The standard for post-construction settlement of the high-speed transportation infrastructure is restrict with the considerations of safety and comfort. Piled embankments are widely used over the deep soft deposits. The piles that support the embankment are exposed not only to the heavy loading from the embankment self-weight, but also to the cyclic loading induced by high-speed vehicles through their service time.

In present work, the model tests on soil arching were performed and a method for anticipating the loads carried… More >

Face stability of shallow shield tunnels in dry sandy ground: model tests, discrete element method simulations and theoretical model

Renpeng Chen, Linggang kong, Lvjun Tang, Yunmin Chen

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.20, No.4, pp. 99-100, 2011, DOI:10.3970/icces.2011.020.099

Abstract Face stability is critical in the underground tunneling. In this report, large-scale model tests on the face stability of shallow tunnels for various cover depths (C/D = 0.5, 1, and 2) in dry sandy ground were firstly introduced. Then, a series of three-dimensional DEM models were built to simulated the process of tunnel face failure. The results of the model tests and DEM simulations reveal that a chimney like failure zone appears during the tunnel face failure. It was founded that with the increase of the horizontal displacement of the tunnel face, the support pressure More >

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.20, No.3, pp. 95-96, 2011, DOI:10.3970/icces.2011.020.095

Abstract The cohesion c and friction angle I are the shear strength parameters influencing the stability of slope. Any of them changes, the factor of safety of slope will change, many work has been done on the relationship between shear strength parameters and factor of safety, but it has seldom been considered in the literature how the slip surface changes at the same time. In the present paper, the strength reduction method is used to find out the effect of shear strength parameters c and Phi to the distribution of slip surface. The study shows that, More >

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.20, No.3, pp. 93-94, 2011, DOI:10.3970/icces.2011.020.093

Abstract Lunar lander may experience various impact loadings when it makes a landing on the lunar surface. Due to the reason, shock absorption system of lunar lander should be designed to absorb the landing energy of lunar lander efficiently for a successful lunar mission. Shock absorption system should be reliable, and the entire landing energy should be absorbed into the shock absorption system to prevent a critical bouncing or turn-over. One the other hand, to protect the payloads, excessive deceleration should be avoided while absorbing the landing energy.

    T. Fu, C.P. Wang, B. Hou, X.D. Zhu, Z.F. Zhou, K.Y. Li, J. Lu

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.20, No.3, pp. 91-92, 2011, DOI:10.3970/icces.2011.020.091

Abstract Structural steels are widely used in engineering fields. Generally, they have the advantage of lower prices due to less precious alloy elements contained; however, their properties, especially the surface properties are inferior to high alloy steels. Surface engineering are of importance in improving surface properties of steels, and even a 'new' surface layer with high performances can be produced by surface technologies on low cost structural steels with ordinary properties.
The researches of last decade have shown that surface nanocrystallization (SNC) can markedly improve surface mechanical properties of metallic materials and accelerate thermal diffusion of N,… More >
