    Priyankar Datta1, Manas C. Ray1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.49-50, No.1, pp. 47-80, 2015, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2015.049.047

Abstract This paper deals with the implementation of the one dimensional form of the fractional order derivative constitutive relation for three dimensional analysis of active constrained layer damping (ACLD) of geometrically nonlinear laminated composite plates. The constraining layer of the ACLD treatment is composed of the vertically/obliquely reinforced 1–3 piezoelectric composites (PZCs). The von Kármán type nonlinear strain displacement relations are used to account for the geometric nonlinearity of the plates. A nonlinear smart finite element model (FEM) has been developed. Thin laminated substrate composite plates with various boundary conditions and stacking sequences are analyzed to More >

    Marco A.A. Kappel1, Diego C. Knupp1, Roberto P. Domingos1, IvanN. Bastos1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.49-50, No.1, pp. 13-29, 2015, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2015.049.013

Abstract This work is aimed at the direct and inverse analysis of hydrogen permeation in steels employing a novel anomalous diffusion model. For the inverse analysis, experimental data for hydrogen permeation in a 13% chromium martensitic stainless steel, available in the literature [Turnbull, Carroll and Ferriss (1989)], was employed within the Bayesian framework for inverse problems. The comparison between the predicted values and the available experimental data demonstrates the feasibility of the new model in adequately describing the physical phenomena occurring in this particular problem. CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.49-50, No.1, pp. 31-45, 2015, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2015.049.031

Abstract The polyvinyl chloride PVC is a polymer material widely used for a large variety of applications. The present work focuses on the identification of the physical processes responsible for the mechanical properties of the PVC containing different crystallinities rate applied in large deformation and different strain rates. In order to understand the behavior of the PVC, a thermodynamic modeling is needed. Therefore, the contribution of this approach was demonstrated by experiment and numerical modeling. This comparative study demonstrates that the proposed model provides better agreement with experimental evidence. More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.49-50, No.1, pp. 1-11, 2015, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2015.049.001

Abstract Investigations of the microstructural evolution of Titanium (Ti) alloys during high temperature processes and heat treatment are attracting more attention due to wide variety of applications for such alloys. In most of these processes the Titanium alloys are subjected to fast heating or cooling rates. In this paper, Monte Carlo simulation is used to simulate the grain growth kinetics of Ti-6Al-4V alloy during fast heat treatment. Here, Monte Carlo simulation of grain growth is based on the Q-state Potts model. Our model is calibrated using the parabolic grain growth law, dn-d0n = kt, where the empirical More >

    Xiaoming Zhang1, Jiangong Yu1,2, Min Zhang1, Dengpan Zhang1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.48, No.3, pp. 163-179, 2015, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2015.048.163

Abstract The characteristics of the guided waves propagation in functionally graded rods with rectangular cross-section (finite width and height) under initial stress are investigated in this paper based on Biot’s theory of incremental deformation. An extended orthogonal polynomial approach is present to solve the coupled wave equations with variable coefficients. By comparisons with the available results of a rectangular aluminum rod, the validity of the present approach is illustrated. The dispersion curves and displacement profiles of various rectangular functionally graded rods are calculated to reveal the wave characteristics, and the effects of different width to height More >

    K. Khanna1,2, V.K. Gupta3, S.P. Nigam1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.48, No.3, pp. 147-161, 2015, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2015.048.147

Abstract A mathematical model is developed to describe the steady state creep in a rotating Al-SiCp disc having a non-linear thickness profile and distribution of SiC particles along the radial direction. The model is used to investigate the effect of imposing three different kinds of radial temperature profiles viz. linear, parabolic and exponential with fixed values of inner and outer surface temperatures, on the creep stresses and strain rates. It is noticed that by increasing the temperature exponent (nT), the radial stress (over the entire radius) and tangential stress (near the inner radius) increase in the disc.… More >

    Guoquan Nie1,2, Jinxi Liu1, Ming Li1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.48, No.3, pp. 133-145, 2015, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2015.048.133

Abstract Propagation of SH-type guided waves in a layered structure with an invariant initial stress is studied, where a piezoelectric thin layer is perfectly bonded on a piezomagnetic substrate. Both the layer and the substrate possess transversely isotropic property. The dispersion relations of SH waves are obtained for four kinds of different electro-magnetic boundary conditions. The effects of initial stress, thickness ratio and electro-magnetic boundary conditions on the propagation behaviors are analyzed in detail. The numerical results show that: 1) The positive initial stresses make the phase velocity increasing, while the negative initial stresses decrease the More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.48, No.2, pp. 103-117, 2015, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2015.048.103

Abstract Small-scale effect on the static deflection of a clamped graphene sheet and influence of the helical angle of the clamped graphene sheet on its static deflection are investigated. Static equilibrium equations of the graphene sheet are formulated based on the concept of nonlocal elastic theory. Galerkin method is used to obtain the classical and the nonlocal static deflection from Static equilibrium equations , respectively. The numerical results show that the static deflection and small-scale effect of a clamped graphene sheet is affected by its small size and helical angle. Small-scale effect will decrease with increase More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.48, No.2, pp. 91-102, 2015, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2015.048.091

Abstract Ferromagnetic shape memory alloy particulate composites, which combine the advantages of large magnetic field induced deformation in ferromagnetic shape memory alloys (FSMAs) with high ductility in matrix, can be used for sensor and actuator applications. In this paper, a new constitutive model was proposed to predict the magneto-mechanical behaviors of FSMA particulate composites based on the description for FSMAs, incorporating Eshelby’s equivalent inclusion theory. The influencing factors, such as volume fraction of particles and elastic modulus, were analyzed. The magnetic field induced strain and other mechanical properties under different magnetic field intensity were also investigated. More >
