    Zaihe Cheng1, Yuwen Tao2, Xiaoqing Gu3, Yizhang Jiang2, Pengjiang Qian2,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol., , DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.027708

Abstract Through semi-supervised learning and knowledge inheritance, a novel Takagi-Sugeno-Kang (TSK) fuzzy system framework is proposed for epilepsy data classification in this study. The new method is based on the maximum mean discrepancy (MMD) method and TSK fuzzy system, as a basic model for the classification of epilepsy data. First, for medical data, the interpretability of TSK fuzzy systems can ensure that the prediction results are traceable and safe. Second, in view of the deviation in the data distribution between the real source domain and the target domain, MMD is used to measure the distance between dierent data distributions. The objective… More >

Peridynamic Study on Fracture Mode and Crack Propagation Path of a Plate with Multiple Cracks Subjected to Uniaxial Tension

Zeyuan Zhou, Ming Yu, Xinfeng Wang*, Zaixing Huang

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol., , DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.027384

Abstract How to simulate fracture mode and crack propagation path in a plate with multiple cracks is an attractive but dicult issue in fracture mechanics. Peridynamics is a recently developed nonlocal continuum formulation that can spontaneously predict the crack nucleation, branch and propagation in materials and structures through a meshfree discrete technique. In this paper, the peridynamic motion equation with boundary traction is improved by simplifying the boundary transfer functions. We calculate the critical cracking load and the fracture angles of the plate with multiple cracks under uniaxial tension. The results are consistent with those predicted by classical fracture mechanics. The… More >

Chengxiang Li, Yue Wu, Chunhui Zhang*, Yao Liu, Qixuan Lin, Junli Ren*

Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol., , DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.026908

Abstract Hemicellulose and lignin are not reasonably utilized during the dissolved pulp preparation process. This work aimed to propose a process for the co-production of dissolving pulp, furfural, and lignin from eucalyptus. High-grade dissolving pulp was prepared from eucalyptus using a combination of extremely low acid (ELA) pretreatment, Kraft cooking, and elementary chlorine-free (ECF) bleaching. The obtained pre-hydrolysate was catalytic conversion into furfural in a biphasic system, and lignin during Kraft cooking and ECF was recovered. The process condition was discussed as well as the mass flow direction. The results showed that ELA pretreatment could effectively remove 80.1% hemicellulose. Compared with… More >

    WEI LIANG1,2,*, ZONGWEI ZHANG1,2, KEJU YANG1,2,3, HONGTU HU1,2, QIANG LUO1,2, ANKANG YANG1,2, LI CHANG4, YUANYUAN ZENG4

    BIOCELL, Vol., , DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.027373

Abstract Background: Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is the most common complication of type 2 diabetes mellitus and the main cause of end-stage renal disease worldwide. Diagnostic biomarkers may allow early diagnosis and treatment of DN to reduce the prevalence and delay the development of DN. Kidney biopsy is the gold standard for diagnosing DN; however, its invasive character is its primary limitation. The machine learning approach provides a non-invasive and specific criterion for diagnosing DN, although traditional machine learning algorithms need to be improved to enhance diagnostic performance. Methods: We applied high-throughput RNA sequencing to obtain the genes related to DN tubular… More >

Observation of Flowering Process of Grape (Vitis vinifera L.)—Insight into the Starting of Pollination of Flower Hiding in Calyptras (Cap)

    Yue Wang1,#, Xiujie Li2,#, Yusen Wu2, Zhonghui Cai1, Bo Li2, Zhaosen Xie1,*

Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol., , DOI:10.32604/phyton.2023.027067

Abstract It is generally agreed that many Vitis vinifera L. cultivars are self-fertile, where self-pollination often occurs before capfall in a process called cleistogamy. Therefore, it is difficult to identify the right time to remove stamens before self-pollination during the cross-breeding of grape. For this paper, we observed the process of grape flowering and measured the pollen viability and stigma receptivity of grape flowers of ‘Shine Muscat’ in order to identify the starting time of self-pollination before capfall and to provide useful information for improving the efficiency of cross-breeding. The results demonstrate that the anther is not cracked during the visible… More >

    Shunde Su1,2,#, Huan Chang3,#, Xiangyang Kang1,*, Renhua Zheng2,*

Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol., , DOI:10.32604/phyton.2023.027586

Abstract As the reproductive organ of the endangered species Fokienia hodginsii, the size of the cones is a constraint on the reproductive renewal of the population. In this study, the molecular basis of the influence of cone size on F. hodginsii was elucidated by comparing the phenotype, biochemistry, and transcriptome of two cultivars of F. hodginsii (‘FJ431’ and ‘FJ415’). The two cultivars differed significantly in cone size, with FJ431 having a significantly larger cone size and weight than FJ415, 1.32 and 1.90 times that of FJ415, respectively. RNA-Seq analysis of both cultivars retrieved 75,940 genes whose approximate functions were classified as… More >

A Th2-score in the tumor microenvironment as a predictive biomarker of response to Bacillus Calmette Guérin in patients with non-muscle invasive bladder carcinoma: A retrospective study

    GUSTAVO MARTÍN VILLOLDO1, MARÍA TERESA POMBO2, MARIANA ARIS3, JOAQUÍN CHEMI1, PABLO MANDÓ3, SUPRIYA NAGARAJU4, JUAN CAMEAN1, ADRIÁN BURIONI1, DEBORAH EGEA1, MORA AMAT5, JOSÉ LEÓN MELLADO3, JOSÉ MORDOH3, ALBERTO VILLARONGA1, MARÍA MARCELA BARRIO3,*

    Oncology Research, Vol., , DOI:10.32604/or.2023.028163

Abstract Intravesical Bacillus Calmette Guerin (BCG) is the gold standard therapy for intermediate/high-risk nonmuscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). However, the response rate is ~60%, and 50% of non-responders will progress to muscle-invasive disease. BCG induces massive local infiltration of inflammatory cells (Th1) and ultimately cytotoxic tumor elimination. We searched for predictive biomarker of BCG response by analyzing tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) polarization in the tumor microenvironment (TME) in pre-treatment biopsies. Pre-treatment biopsies from patients with NMIBC who received adequate intravesical instillation of BCG (n = 32) were evaluated retrospectively by immunohistochemistry. TME polarization was assessed by quantifying the T-Bet+ (Th1) and GATA-3+… More >
