Exploring Capillary Fringe Flow: Quasilinear Modeling with Kirchhoff Transforms and Gardner Model

    Rachid Karra1,*, Abdelatif Maslouhi2

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol., , DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2024.048447

Abstract Recent studies have underscored the significance of the capillary fringe in hydrological and biochemical processes. Moreover, its role in shallow waters is expected to be considerable. Traditionally, the study of groundwater flow has centered on unsaturated-saturated zones, often overlooking the impact of the capillary fringe. In this study, we introduce a steady-state two-dimensional model that integrates the capillary fringe into a 2-D numerical solution. Our novel approach employs the potential form of the Richards equation, facilitating the determination of boundaries, pressures, and velocities across different ground surface zones. We utilized a two-dimensional Freefem++ finite element model to compute the stationary… More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol., , DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2024.047298

Abstract Self-excited oscillating jets (SOJ) are used in several practical applications. Their performances are significantly affected by structural parameters and the target distance. In this study, a geometric model of the SOJ nozzle accounting for multiple structural parameters is introduced, then the related cavitation performances and the optimal target distance are investigated using a Large-Eddy Simulation (LES) approach. Results are also provided about an experiment, which was conducted to validate the simulation results. By analyzing the evolution of the vapor volume fraction at the nozzle outlet, a discussion is presented about the effect of the aforementioned structural parameters on the cavitation… More >

Lithium-Ion Battery Pack Based on Fuzzy Logic Control Research on Multi-Layer Equilibrium Circuits

    Tiezhou Wu, Yukan Zhang*

    Energy Engineering, Vol., , DOI:10.32604/ee.2024.049883

Abstract In order to solve the problem of inconsistent energy in the charging and discharging cycles of lithium-ion battery packs, a new multilayer equilibrium topology is designed in this paper. The structure adopts a hierarchical structure design, which includes intra-group equilibrium, primary inter-group equilibrium and secondary intergroup equilibrium. This structure greatly increases the number of equilibrium paths for lithium-ion batteries, thus shortening the time required for equilibrium, and improving the overall efficiency. In terms of control strategy, fuzzy logic control (FLC) is chosen to control the size of the equilibrium current during the equilibrium process. We performed rigorous modeling and simulation… More >

    Shaokun Liu1, Zhiying Gao1,2,*, Rina Su1,2, Mengmeng Yan1, Jianwen Wang1,2

    Energy Engineering, Vol., , DOI:10.32604/ee.2024.049616

Abstract Although the aerodynamic loading of wind turbine blades under various conditions has been widely studied, the radial distribution of load along the blade under various yaw conditions and with blade flapping phenomena is poorly understood. This study aims to investigate the effects of second-order flapwise vibration on the mean and fluctuation characteristics of the torque and axial thrust of wind turbines under yaw conditions using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). In the CFD model, the blades are segmented radially to comprehensively analyze the distribution patterns of torque, axial load, and tangential load. The following results are obtained. (i) After applying flapwise… More >

Dynamic Characteristics of Functionally Graded Timoshenko Beams by Improved Differential Quadrature Method

    Xiaojun Huang1, Liaojun Zhang2,*, Hanbo Cui1, Gaoxing Hu1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol., , DOI:10.32604/cmes.2024.049124

Abstract This study proposes an effective method to enhance the accuracy of the Differential Quadrature Method (DQM) for calculating the dynamic characteristics of functionally graded beams by improving the form of discrete node distribution. Firstly, based on the first-order shear deformation theory, the governing equation of free vibration of a functionally graded beam is transformed into the eigenvalue problem of ordinary differential equations with respect to beam axial displacement, transverse displacement, and cross-sectional rotation angle by considering the effects of shear deformation and rotational inertia of the beam cross-section. Then, ignoring the shear deformation of the beam section and only considering… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol., , DOI:10.32604/cmes.2024.049047

Abstract Implanted neural probes can detect weak discharges of neurons in the brain by piercing soft brain tissue, thus as important tools for brain science research, as well as diagnosis and treatment of brain diseases. However, the rigid neural probes, such as Utah arrays, Michigan probes, and metal microfilament electrodes, are mechanically unmatched with brain tissue and are prone to rejection and glial scarring after implantation, which leads to a significant degradation in the signal quality with the implantation time. In recent years, flexible neural electrodes are rapidly developed with less damage to biological tissues, excellent biocompatibility, and mechanical compliance to… More >

Modeling the Interaction between Vacancies and Grain Boundaries during Ductile Fracture

Mingjian Li, Ping Yang*, Pengyang Zhao

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol., , DOI:10.32604/cmes.2024.048334

Abstract The experimental results in previous studies have indicated that during the ductile fracture of pure metals, vacancies aggregate and form voids at grain boundaries. However, the physical mechanism underlying this phenomenon remains not fully understood. This study derives the equilibrium distribution of vacancies analytically by following thermodynamics and the micromechanics of crystal defects. This derivation suggests that vacancies cluster in regions under hydrostatic compression to minimize the elastic strain energy. Subsequently, a finite element model is developed for examining more general scenarios of interaction between vacancies and grain boundaries. This model is first verified and validated through comparison with some… More >

FL-EASGD: Federated Learning Privacy Security Method Based on Homomorphic Encryption

Hao Sun*, Xiubo Chen, Kaiguo Yuan

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol., , DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.049159

Abstract Federated learning ensures data privacy and security by sharing models among multiple computing nodes instead of plaintext data. However, there is still a potential risk of privacy leakage, for example, attackers can obtain the original data through model inference attacks. Therefore, safeguarding the privacy of model parameters becomes crucial. One proposed solution involves incorporating homomorphic encryption algorithms into the federated learning process. However, the existing federated learning privacy protection scheme based on homomorphic encryption will greatly reduce the efficiency and robustness when there are performance differences between parties or abnormal nodes. To solve the above problems, this paper proposes a… More >
