Abstract We present a method for solving partial differential equations using artificial neural networks and an adaptive collocation strategy. In this procedure, a coarse grid of training points is used at the initial training stages, while more points are added at later stages based on the value of the residual at a larger set of evaluation points. This method increases the robustness of the neural network approximation and can result in significant computational savings, particularly when the solution is non-smooth. Numerical results are presented for benchmark problems for scalar-valued PDEs, namely Poisson and Helmholtz equations, as well as for an inverse… More >

Abstract In this paper, a deep collocation method (DCM) for thin plate bending problems is proposed. This method takes advantage of computational graphs and backpropagation algorithms involved in deep learning. Besides, the proposed DCM is based on a feedforward deep neural network (DNN) and differs from most previous applications of deep learning for mechanical problems. First, batches of randomly distributed collocation points are initially generated inside the domain and along the boundaries. A loss function is built with the aim that the governing partial differential equations (PDEs) of Kirchhoff plate bending problems, and the boundary/initial conditions are minimised at those collocation… More >

Abstract True unilateral posterior crossbite in adults is a challenging malocclusion to treat, especially when we need to correct cross-arch segments with unwanted effects on non-cross segments. Conventional expansion methods are expected to have some shortcomings; the Unilateral dental expander appliance used to restore unilateral cross bite dental arch is an uncommon appliance; for this, a designed new device is needed. This paper aimed to invite a new unilateral dental expander appliance (UDEX) to treat unilateral dental posterior crossbite in adults using available dental material, easy to use and handle, well tolerated by the patient, and biocompatible with oral structure. It… More >

Abstract The virus SARS-CoV2, which causes coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has
become a pandemic and has spread to every inhabited continent. Given the increasing
caseload, there is an urgent need to augment clinical skills in order to identify from among
the many mild cases the few that will progress to critical illness. We present a first step
towards building an artificial intelligence (AI) framework, with predictive analytics (PA)
capabilities applied to real patient data, to provide rapid clinical decision-making
support. COVID-19 has presented a pressing need as a) clinicians are still developing clinical
acumen to this novel disease and b) resource limitations… More >

Abstract Recently, Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have become very popular research topics which are applied to many applications. They provide pervasive computing services and techniques in various potential applications for the Internet of Things (IoT). An Asynchronous Clustering and Mobile Data Gathering based on Timer Mechanism (ACMDGTM) algorithm is proposed which would mitigate the problem of “hot spots” among sensors to enhance the lifetime of networks. The clustering process takes sensors’ location and residual energy into consideration to elect suitable cluster heads. Furthermore, one mobile sink node is employed to access cluster heads in accordance with the data overflow time and… More >

Abstract A novel nonlocal operator theory based on the variational principle is proposed for the solution of partial differential equations. Common differential operators as well as the variational forms are defined within the context of nonlocal operators. The present nonlocal formulation allows the assembling of the tangent stiffness matrix with ease and simplicity, which is necessary for the eigenvalue analysis such as the waveguide problem. The present formulation is applied to solve the differential electromagnetic vector wave equations based on electric fields. The governing equations are converted into nonlocal integral form. An hourglass energy functional is introduced for the elimination of… More >

Abstract Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are usually formed with many tiny sensors
which are randomly deployed within sensing field for target monitoring. These sensors
can transmit their monitored data to the sink in a multi-hop communication manner.
However, the ‘hot spots’ problem will be caused since nodes near sink will consume
more energy during forwarding. Recently, mobile sink based technology provides an
alternative solution for the long-distance communication and sensor nodes only need to
use single hop communication to the mobile sink during data transmission. Even though
it is difficult to consider many network metrics such as sensor position, residual energy… More >

Abstract Apoptosis or programmed cell death (PCD) is a physiological process characteristic of pluricellular organisms leading to self-destruction of the cell. It is therefore involved in development, homeostasis and host defense. However, a significant difference has been shown between mammalian cell apoptosis and non-mammalian cell apoptosis: mitochondria are implicated only in the former. Execution of PCD includes the release of several proapoptotic proteins from the intermembrane space of mitochondria. They could exert their actions through a caspase dependent as well as a caspase independent way. On the other hand, regulation of PCD is mainly given by the Bcl-2 family members, which… More >

Abstract MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are short RNA molecules that negatively regulate gene expression
primarily by degrading target mRNA or inhibit the translation of protein product. Recently, many reports
have shown the altered miRNA expression in various diseases. However, there are no reports on miRNA
expression related to periodontitis. Thus, this study aimed to compare the miRNAs differentially expressed in
healthy and chronic periodontitis tissues and to determine the miRNAs closely associated with chronic periodontitis. To find out the miRNAs differentially induced in healthy and chronic periodontitis tissues, miRNA
microarray was carried out and the expression of miRNAs was confirmed by real-time PCR.… More >

medical field have allowed people to see the excellent prospects of the integration of AI and healthcare. Among
them, the hot deep learning field has shown greater potential in applications such as disease prediction and drug
response prediction. From the initial logistic regression model to the machine learning model, and then to the
deep learning model today, the accuracy of medical disease prediction has been continuously improved, and the
performance in all aspects has also been significantly improved. This article introduces some… More >
