Summary
This special issue, "Blood-based Biomarkers in the Diagnosis, Prognosis, and Management of Gastrointestinal Cancers," focuses on the latest research and clinical applications of blood markers in major gastrointestinal cancers, including esophageal cancer, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, liver cancer, and pancreatic cancer. Blood tests are noninvasive and can be performed repeatedly, making them extremely useful for early cancer diagnosis, monitoring treatment efficacy, and predicting recurrence. This issue also details the clinical utility and limitations of advanced biomarkers, such as autoantibodies, circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), exosomes, and microRNA, as well as their potential application in personalized medicine. We aim for these biomarkers to be a valuable resource for researchers and clinicians to obtain the latest knowledge and future perspectives. We hope that the advancement of blood-based diagnostic technologies will contribute to improving the prognosis of gastrointestinal cancers.
