RÉSUMÉ

Dans cet article, nous tenterons d’éclairer la fonction de la honte en déterminant ce que peut recouvrir cet affect chez un soignant en oncologie. Pour ce faire, nous étayerons l’hypothèse que la honte chez celui-ci peut être une sauvegarde subjective. Pour cela, nous démontrerons que la honte du soignant peut être le signe d’une souffrance mais également une défense permettant de se resubjectiver par le biais d’un appel au regard de l’autre puis d’une demande de rencontre amenant parfois la question de « la demande » au sens psychanalytique du terme.

Abstract

In this article, we attempt to shed light on the function that shame can have for the oncology caregiver. Toward this aim, we put forward the hypothesis that shame functions to safeguard subjectivity. We demonstrate that caregiver shame can be a sign of suffering but also a defense allowing to resubjectify oneself. This happens through a call for the gaze of the “other” and a request for union, sometimes bringing up a “demand” in the psychoanalytic sense of the term.
