Smart BME

Aims & Scope

Smart BME is an international, peer-reviewed, high-quality journal for research covering engineering, life sciences, clinical medicine, data science, and physical science. Rather than focusing on isolated advances within individual subfields, we prioritize work that can be understood, reproduced, and built upon by researchers across disciplines. The journal does not seek to replace specialized outlets in any single subfield, it aims to provide a platform for research that connects disciplines and advances biomedical engineering across traditional boundaries.

The scope of Smart BME covers biomedical engineering research that integrates advanced materials, devices, computational methods, data-driven approaches, and intelligent systems to address challenges in biology, medicine, and healthcare. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: biomaterials, tissue engineering, and regenerative engineering; brain-computer interfaces and neuromodulation; rehabilitation engineering, assistive technologies, and wearable health systems; biosensing, point-of-care diagnostics, and physiological monitoring; medical robotics, micro/nanorobotics, surgical navigation, and intelligent medical devices; biomedical and molecular imaging, and image-guided intervention; biomechanics, mechanobiology, and mechanomedicine; cell and molecular engineering, and immunoengineering; computational medicine, medical AI, digital health, and clinical decision support; organoids, and organ-on-chip systems; precision medicine, translational medicine, and clinical engineering; global health and low-resource medical technologies. Article types include original research articles, rapid communications, reviews, perspectives, commentaries, methods papers, and letters to the Editor. The journal also features thematic issues and invited contributions from leading researchers in emerging interdisciplinary areas.

The journal follows TSP’s editorial integrity framework. Policies and procedures regarding research ethics, peer review standards, corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions are implemented in accordance with TSP’s Publication Ethics Policies.

TSP takes the responsibility to enforce a rigorous peer-review together with strict ethical policies and standards to ensure adding the highest quality scientific works to the field of scholarly publication. TSP takes such publishing ethics issues very seriously on every level. Our staff are trained to identify and report any irregularities. Our editors follow Guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), and proceed with a zero tolerance policy for ethical violations, including plagiarism, data falsification and authorship misconduct. To confirm the originality of all submitted manuscripts, we use iThenticate for similarity checks against prior publications.
