Aims & Scope

ZKG International is a leading peer-reviewed journal in cement, lime, gypsum and related building materials. It serves as a comprehensive international platform for interdisciplinary scientific research, technological innovation, engineering applications, and industry insights.

The journal provides comprehensive coverage of research spanning materials science, chemistry, manufacturing technologies, modeling, and applications, emphasizing sustainability, digitalization and innovation. The scope includes, but is not limited to:

• Manufacturing technologies: advancement of process, advancement of equipment, and global production data for the cement, lime and gypsum sectors.

• Binder chemistry: mineral phases, hydration mechanisms, and relevant chemical and mineral additives/supplementary cementitious materials.

• Concrete and plaster: mix design, rheology, hardened properties, durability, and long-term performance.

• Alternative binders: low-carbon binders, alkali-activated materials, geopolymer systems, industrial waste based binders.

• Digitalization: AI-driven materials design, and simulation techniques for reaction process and performance optimization.

• Environmental protection: CO₂ capture, alternative fuels, waste recycling, and life-cycle assessment for binders production and utilization.

• Applications: cases of infrastructure, repair, rehabilitation and structural and nonstructural element prefabrication.

• Modeling: multiscale simulation of hydration, microstructure evolution, durability related issues, and mechanical performance.

• News and insights: market trends, standard interpretation, production statistics, and technology transfer in cement, lime, and gypsum industries worldwide.

With a rich history dating back to its foundation in 1911, ZKG International was originally published as Cement – Communications of the Central Council for the Promotion of German Portland Cement Producers and relaunched in 1948 as Zement-Kalk-Gips (ZKG), establishing its mission “to act as an intermediary for international scientific material and to translate research into practical application.”

Over 115 years, it evolved from a national publication into a leading international magazine and is now recognized as one of the oldest and most authoritative publications in cement, lime, gypsum, and related building materials, serving all the researchers, engineers, plant managers, and industry decision-makers with the seek for knowledge on raw materials, extraction and processing methods, thermal and mechanical processes, production control, plant management, quality control systems, and building materials chemistry across the global binder and construction building industry.
