Effects of Tip-Clearance Variation on Blade Deformation, Near-Tip Flow, and Entropy Generation in a Transonic Compressor

Yongjie Wang, Junli Wang*, Zhigui Ren, Wenshuai Liu, Wei Kong, Chenxing Niu, Chang Yang

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.22, No.9, 2026, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2026.089646 - 28 September 2026

Abstract This study investigates how tip-clearance variation affects blade deformation, aerodynamic performance, near-tip flow structures, and irreversible energy loss in a transonic compressor. NASA Rotor 37 is used as the research model, and a two-way fluid–structure interaction framework coupled with entropy-generation analysis is developed to resolve the interplay between structural deformation and tip-leakage flow. At the respective peak-efficiency operating points, increasing the nominal tip clearance from 1.0δ to 3.0δ produces little change in the chordwise-averaged radial blade displacement, which decreases from 0.0725 to 0.0713 mm. However, the corresponding deformation-corrected effective clearance increases substantially, from 0.2835 to… More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.22, No.9, 2026, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2026.089244 - 28 September 2026

Abstract This study develops a sequential numerical modelling framework to elucidate the transient evolution of liquid hydrogen (LH2) leakage, pool evaporation, hydrogen dispersion, and post-ignition thermal hazards in a representative semi-open railway station. The framework couples a source-term integral model for LH2 pool evaporation with computational fluid dynamics (CFD), in which the time-dependent liquid-pool radius and evaporation mass flow rate are introduced as transient inlet conditions through a user-defined function. The Realizable k-ε turbulence model and species transport equations are employed to predict the subsequent dispersion of gaseous H2 within the station environment, accounting for the influence of… More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.22, No.9, 2026, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2026.088471 - 28 September 2026

Abstract The influence of nozzle orifice number on the jet dynamics and rock-breaking performance of multi-orifice abrasive water jets (MOAWJ) is systematically examined for precision drilling in pumped storage power station construction. A VOF-DPM (Volume of Fluid–Discrete Phase Model) two-way coupling framework is first employed to characterize the flow-field structure, velocity distribution, and spatial evolution of abrasive particles for different orifice configurations. The resulting jet characteristics are then used as initial conditions in an SPH-FEM (Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics-Finite Element Method) coupling model to simulate the transient rock-breaking process and elucidate the underlying micromechanical mechanisms. Haozhe Zhang1, Shengjie Wang1, Jiajia Song1, Zeqi Chen1, Suoying He1, Ming Gao1,2,*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.22, No.9, 2026, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2026.088369 - 28 September 2026

Abstract This study develops and systematically evaluates a hierarchical tree-shaped finned-tube heat exchanger designed to enhance hydrogen absorption in porous metal-hydride (MH) storage reactors. The proposed architecture combines geometrically nested primary, secondary, and tertiary tubes with branched fins to redistribute cooling capacity from the reactor core towards peripheral regions where localized reaction dead zones develop. A validated two-dimensional transient model, incorporating Darcy-law porous-media flow, heat transfer between the MH bed and the aluminium heat-exchanger structure, and LaNi5 hydriding kinetics, is employed to compare a series of discrete heat-exchanger geometries. The effects of tube-spacing ratio α, primary-tube radius r0,… More >

    Feiyang Liu1, Yi Zhou1, Decai Qu2, Bowen Zhao3,*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.22, No.9, 2026, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2026.087716 - 28 September 2026

Abstract The effects of heave amplitude and oscillation period on the hydrodynamic performance of a three-dimensional NACA0012 hydrofoil operating beneath a free surface are systematically investigated using an unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) framework coupled with the Volume of Fluid (VOF) method. The shear stress transport (SST) turbulence model and an overset mesh technique are employed to resolve the turbulent flow and large-amplitude hydrofoil motion, while grid and time-step convergence studies are performed to establish numerical reliability. The results show that the heaving hydrofoil generates net thrust throughout the investigated parameter range, demonstrating the dominant role of… More >

    Jiabin Wang1, Rundong Wang1, Xingda Tong1,*, Shaopeng Hao1, Bo Yan2, Zhihui Wang3,*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.22, No.9, 2026, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2026.087557 - 28 September 2026

Abstract This study develops a unified, material-specific semi-empirical framework to describe both low-velocity corrosion mitigation and high-velocity erosion-corrosion enhancement in CO2-containing environments. L360, 20# and X65 steels were investigated using static weight-loss and electrochemical tests, together with dynamic erosion-corrosion experiments and SEM/EDS characterization. Static tests were conducted at total pressures of 3–7 MPa, CO2 partial pressures of 4–60 kPa, and temperatures of 10–60°C, while dynamic tests were performed at 3.5 MPa total pressure, 40 kPa CO2 partial pressure, and 25°C, over velocities of 0–50 m/s and impingement angles of 0–80°. Static corrosion rates increased with increasing CO2 partial… More >

Xiangping Liao*, Ye Xu, Ying Zhao, Langxin Sun

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.22, No.9, 2026, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2026.087496 - 28 September 2026

Abstract This study investigates the oil-groove configuration of composite friction pairs in hydro-viscous clutches (HVCs), with particular emphasis on the effects of gas content and pressure within the oil film on torque transmission under high-slip conditions. A novel C-type composite groove is proposed to improve oil-film distribution and pressure within the friction interface. A three-dimensional gas–liquid two-phase CFD model is developed to account for the effects of radial groove geometry under prescribed flow-rate and slip conditions. The coupled gas-liquid two-phase Navier–Stokes equations are solved numerically to examine the oil-phase distribution and its influence on torque transmission… More > Graphic Abstract

    Xiuyang Fan1, Fuqiang Chen1,2,3,*, Haicang Wang1, Jingjing Liu1

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.22, No.9, 2026, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2026.087295 - 28 September 2026

Abstract This study develops a numerical framework to elucidate how staged perforated plates regulate flow and suppress cavitation in a multi-stage sleeve-type pressure-reducing valve (MSPRV) for nuclear feedwater systems under high-pressure-drop conditions. Steady Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) simulations, coupled with the standard k–ω turbulence model and the Zwart–Gerber–Belamri cavitation model, were conducted at an inlet pressure of 2 MPa. The effects of outlet back pressure, perforated-plate hole radius, and inter-plate spacing were systematically examined through comparisons of a baseline valve without a perforated plate, single-stage configurations, and two-stage configurations. Lower outlet back pressure was found to concentrate the… More > Graphic Abstract

    Yi Song1,2, Cheng Shen1,2, Wenfeng Yu1,2,*, Bo Zeng1,2, Junfeng Li2, Yubo Wang3, Yuxuan Deng4,5, Wendong Wang4,5

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.22, No.9, 2026, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2026.087207 - 28 September 2026

Abstract This study develops a multi-mechanism numerical simulation framework for shale gas reservoirs to quantify the coupled effects of gas transport mechanisms, stress sensitivity, and inter-well interference during infill horizontal well development. The model is formulated within the Embedded Discrete Fracture Model (EDFM) and incorporates gas adsorption/desorption, diffusion, and matrix stress sensitivity, with the governing equations discretized and solved using the finite volume method. Sensitivity analyses show that stress sensitivity is a dominant control on productivity, as increasing effective stress causes pore and fracture contraction and closure, substantially reducing gas production. A stress sensitivity coefficient of… More >

    Chao Liu1, Jianwu He2,*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.22, No.9, 2026, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2026.086616 - 28 September 2026

Abstract This study investigates the influence of the cavitation coefficient on the internal flow field and pressure fluctuation characteristics of a pump-turbine using numerical simulations validated against experimental measurements. The validated model is then used to analyze hydraulic performance and cavitation-induced flow behavior over a range of cavitation conditions. The results show that cavitation first develops on the suction side of the runner blades near the outlet and progressively reduces hydraulic efficiency as it intensifies. The flow field within the runner is primarily governed by rotor-stator interactions between the runner and guide vanes, resulting in pronounced More >
