Abstract Objectives: This study examines the effectiveness of an eight-week game-based physical activity program designed to reduce post-traumatic stress levels in children affected by the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes that occurred in Turkey on 06 February 2023. Following the earthquake, millions of children experienced significant changes in their education and living conditions, adversely affecting their psychological health. Methods: The therapeutic effects of physical activity on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are frequently emphasized in the literature, and this study specifically focuses on the impact of game-based exercises. The research employed an experimental design, involving 80 earthquake-affected children aged 10 to… More >

Abstract Background: Adult medulloblastoma (MB) represents less than 1% of central nervous system malignancies, lacking standardized therapeutic approaches due to its rarity. This retrospective single-center analysis aimed to assess survival outcomes and treatment-associated toxicities in adult MB patients managed with pediatric-derived protocols. Methods: Eighteen patients (≥18 years) with MB treated at Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Agostino Gemelli Istituto di Ricovero e Cura a Carattere Scientifico (IRCCS) (January 1997–January 2024) were analyzed. All received craniospinal radiotherapy with posterior fossa boost, followed by adjuvant chemotherapy utilizing pediatric regimens (PNET3, PNET4, PNET5, or high-risk protocols incorporating high-dose chemotherapy with autologous… More >

Abstract Background: As occurrence rates of pediatric ureteral stones have increased, evaluation of optimal treatment modalities has become imperative. This study’s primary goal is to compare outcomes between dusting and fragmentation techniques using Holmium:YAG (Ho:YAG) laser lithotripsy in children with ureteral stones. Methods: A prospective randomized study was conducted at Aswan University Hospitals from June 2023 to December 2024. One hundred children, under the age of 18, with single, mid- or distal, ureteral stones (5–20 mm) were randomized into two groups. Group A received laser dusting (0.2–0.6 J, 20–40 Hz), while Group B received fragmentation (0.8–1.5… More >

Fathers’ overprotective parenting and young children’s problem behaviors: Mediating by mothers’ overprotective attitudes and parenting stress

    Ruiqian Li1,*, Peibing Zheng1, Mengxin Yan1, Xinyi Zhou2, Ziyu Wu1, Yiting Wang1

    Journal of Psychology in Africa, Vol.35, No.5, pp. 681-688, 2025, DOI:10.32604/jpa.2025.069421 - 24 October 2025

Abstract This study examined the relationship between paternal overprotective parenting and problem behaviors of preschool children, and maternal overprotective attitudes and parenting stress mediation of that relationship. Data were collected from 265 families, including parents and preschool children (ages 3–6). The results revealed that paternal overprotective attitudes significantly influenced maternal overprotective attitudes and maternal parenting stress. Maternal overprotective attitudes, in turn, increased maternal parenting stress, exacerbated children’s problem behaviors. Paternal overprotective attitudes indirectly contributed to these behaviors through both maternal overprotective attitudes and parenting stress. The effect was more pronounced on boy than girl younger than More >

Abstract Objective: The aim of the present study was to investigate long-term efficacy and safety of percutaneous stent implantation for residual pulmonary artery stenosis (PAS) in pediatric patients after surgical repair of complicated congenital heart diseases (CHDs). Methods: All pediatric patients diagnosed with residual PAS after surgical repair of complicated CHDs between 1996 and 2020 were retrospectively enrolled in the study. Results: A total of 41 patients (30 males, 11 females; median age 5.0 years, median weight 17 kg) were followed-up for a median of 7.1 years. Follow-up echocardiography results demonstrated that the target vessel diameter increased from… More >

Negotiable Fate Belief and Suicidal Ideation among Left-Behind Children: The Mediating Role of Coping Self-Efficacy and Gender Differences

    Xiao Hu1,#, Biao Li2,#, Jun Qin2,*

    International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol.27, No.8, pp. 1203-1220, 2025, DOI:10.32604/ijmhp.2025.066297 - 29 August 2025

Abstract Objectives: Suicidal ideation is a strong predictor of suicide deaths, which refers to the consideration or desire to give up one’s own life. Left-behind children in rural China are more vulnerable to psychological problems and suicidal ideation compared to their non-left-behind peers. The aim of the current study was to examine two potential protective factors, negotiable fate belief and coping self-efficacy, and to test the mediating role of coping self-efficacy in the relationship between negotiable fate belief and suicidal ideation. We also analyzed gender differences in this mediation model. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted… More >

    Huifang Yang1,*, Peixuan Kuang2

    Journal of Psychology in Africa, Vol.35, No.4, pp. 535-540, 2025, DOI:10.32604/jpa.2025.070124 - 17 August 2025

Abstract The study investigated the effects of monetary rewards and punishments on the behavioral inhibition in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) tendencies. The present study adopted the signal stopping task paradigm, with 66 children with ADHD tendencies as the research subjects. A mixed design of 2 (reward and punishment type: reward, punishment) × 2 (stimulus type: monetary stimulus, social stimulus) was used. The analysis applied a between intervention group (with reward and punishment type variables) and within type of reward approach (by stimulus type as intra subject variables). The results showed that monetary punishment More >

Abstract This study investigated the relationship between parental cognitive ability and child logical reasoning ability, and the role of academic expectation and family environment in that relationship. Based on the 2020 China Family Panel Studies (CFPS) data, 1491 children (girls ratio = 53.78%; average grade = 6.023 years, school grade standard deviation = 1.825 years). Results following multiple regression model (OLS) show that the higher the parental cognitive ability, the higher the children’s logical reasoning ability. Secondly, parental academic expectation serves as a mediator between their cognitive ability and children’s logical reasoning ability for higher logical More >

Abstract This longitudinal study examined the association between parental autonomy support and school-aged children’s adjustment across four major domains of school functioning, as well as the mediating role of children’s executive function. Participants were 476 school-aged children (girl: 49.2%, Mage = 10.49 years, SD = 1.32 years), who completed the Psychological Autonomy Support Scale, the Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function–2, and the Primary School Students’ Psychological Suzhi Scale at baseline and at two subsequent follow-up assessments. Results from unconditional latent growth curve models and structural equation modeling indicated that paternal autonomy support was a significant predictor… More >
