The Full Load Voltage Compensation Strategy in Capacity Configuration of UPQC Integrated PV-BESS

    Fuyin Ni1,2, Kai Li2,*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.5, pp. 1203-1221, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.025796

Abstract Unified power quality conditioner (UPQC) with energy storage is commonly based on conventional capacity configuration strategy with power angle control. It has problems such as phase jumping before and after compensation. DC-link cannot continuously emit active power externally. Therefore, this paper presents the compensation strategy of full load voltage magnitude and phase in capacity configuration of UPQC. The topology of UPQC is integrated a series active power filter (SAPF), a shunt active power filter (PAPF) and a photovoltaic-battery energy storage system (PV-BESS). The principle of full load voltage compensation is analyzed based on the PV-BESS-UPQC topology. The magnitude constant of… More > Graphic Abstract

Genetic Algorithm Based Smart Grid System for Distributed Renewable Energy Sources

    M. Mythreyee*, Dr A. Nalini

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.45, No.1, pp. 819-837, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.028525

Abstract This work presents the smart grid system for distributed Renewable Energy Sources (RES) with control methods. The hybrid MicroGrids (MG) are trending in small-scale power systems that involve distributed generations, power storage, and various loads. RES of solar are implemented with boost converter using Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) with perturb and observe technique to track the maximum power. Also, the wind system is designed by permanent magnet synchronous generator that includes boost converter with MPPT technique. The battery is also employed with a Direct Current (DC)-DC bidirectional converter, and has a state of charge. The MATLAB/Simulink Simscape software is… More >

Evolutionary Algorithm Based Z-Source DC-DC Boost Converter for Charging EV Battery

    P. Anitha1, K. Karthik Kumar2,*, M. Ravindran2, A. Saravanaselvan2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.34, No.2, pp. 1377-1397, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.025396

Abstract In this paper, efficient charging of electric vehicle battery from a considered renewable solar photovoltaic source with the help of a modified Z source with efficient boosting topology. Adapting this Z-source converter to act as a voltage gainer with a boosting function allows a solar Photovoltaic (PV) input voltage of 25VDC (Volts Direct Current) to be increased to a designed output voltage of 75VDC at a low duty ratio, resulting in minimal switching loss. The closed-loop steady-state and transient parameters at the output were analyzed and compared using modern evolutionary algorithms. The power range upheld throughout the circuit is around… More >

Dust Deposition’s Effect on Solar Photovoltaic Module Performance: An Experimental Study in India’s Tropical Region

    K. R. Chairma Lakshmi*, Geetha Ramadas

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.8, pp. 2133-2153, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.019649

Abstract A solar PV panel works with maximum efficiency only when it is operated around its optimum operating point or maximum power point. Unfortunately, the performance of the solar cell is affected by several factors like sun direction, solar irradiance, dust accumulation, module temperature, as well as the load on the system. Dust deposition is one of the most prominent factors that influence the performance of solar panels. Because the solar panel is exposed to the atmosphere, dust will accumulate on its surface, reducing the quantity of sunlight reaching the solar cell and diminishing output. In the proposed work, a detailed… More >

Effect of Dust and Shadow on Performance of Solar Photovoltaic Modules: Experimental Analysis

    Ramkiran Bhallamudi1,2, Sudhakar Kumarasamy3,4,5, Chinnayan Karuppaiyah Sundarabalan1,*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.6, pp. 1827-1838, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.016798

Abstract This study presents an experimental performance of a solar photovoltaic module under clean, dust, and shadow conditions. It is found that there is a significant decrease in electrical power produced (40% in the case of dust panels and 80% in the case of shadow panels) and a decrease in efficiency of around 6% in the case with dust and 9% in the case with the shadow, as compared to the clean panel. From the results, it is clear that there is a substantial effect of a partial shadow than dust on the performance of the solar panel. This is due… More >

Improving the Power Quality of Smart Microgrid Based Solar Photovoltaic Systems

    Emad H. El-Zohri1, Hegazy Rezk2,3,*, Basem Alamri4, Hamdy A. Ziedan5

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.30, No.1, pp. 201-213, 2021, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2021.018700

Abstract Microgrids are hybrid power systems that consist of several distributed generation resources and local loads that can supply electrical power to remote or specific areas. The integration of microgrids with the utility network is one of the most recent technologies developed in countries like Egypt. One area of study is how the integration of smart microgrids and utility systems can be used to solve power quality problems such as voltage sags, increased use of distributed generators, deep energy, and power loss. This paper is aimed at investigating a possible solution to some common and dangerous power quality issues associated with… More >

    D. Menaga1, M. Premkumar2, R. Sowmya1,*, S. Narasimman3

    Energy Engineering, Vol.117, No.6, pp. 481-495, 2020, DOI:10.32604/EE.2020.013282

Abstract The proposed controller accompanies with different sliding surfaces. To understand maximum power point extraction as opposed to nonlinear uncertainties and unknown disturbance of a grid-connected photovoltaic system to various control inputs (ud, uq) is designed. To extract maximum power from a solar array and maintain unity power flow in a grid by controlling the voltage across the dclink capacitor (Vpvdc) and reactive current (iq). A multiple input-output with multiple uncertainty constraints have considered designing proposed sliding mode controllers to validated their robustness performance. An innovative controller verifies uncertain inputs, constant and changes in irradiances, and temperature of the photo-voltaic system.… More >
