NeuroChain Sentinel: A Brain-Inspired Anomaly Detection System Using Spiking Neural Networks for Zero-Day Threat Identification in Blockchain Networks

    Shoeb Ali Syed1, Zohaib Mushtaq2,*, Akbare Yaqub3, Saifur Rahman4, Muhammad Irfan4, Saleh Al Dawsari4,5,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.88, No.1, 2026, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2026.076869 - 08 May 2026

Abstract Blockchain networks are under mounting pressure from emerging complex zero-day attacks that cannot be prevented with conventional security measures. In this paper, we introduce NeuroChain Sentinel, a new bio-inspired cybersecurity model based on spiking neural networks for detecting anomalies in a distributed ledger system in real time. The main innovations are: a Temporal Spike Pattern Recognition algorithm for simulating the biological timing of the neural system to detect malicious transaction patterns; a distributed consensus-verification topology combined with blockchain algorithms; and small-scale neuromorphic engineering, resulting in an 87% reduction in computational load over conventional deep neural… More >

Mitigating Fragmentation Attacks in DNP3-Based Microgrids through Permissioned Blockchain Validation

    Benedict Djouboussi1,*, Elie Fute Tagne1,2

    Journal of Cyber Security, Vol.8, pp. 171-187, 2026, DOI:10.32604/jcs.2026.079617 - 15 April 2026

Abstract The Distributed Network Protocol 3 (DNP3) is widely deployed in SCADA-based microgrids; however, it was not originally designed to meet the cybersecurity requirements of modern decentralized energy infrastructures. Although DNP3 Secure Authentication (DNP3-SA) introduces HMAC-based session-level protection, it does not ensure fragment-level integrity, leaving the protocol vulnerable to fragmentation disruption, replay attacks, and sequence manipulation. Such vulnerabilities can cause desynchronization between master and outstation devices, compromising the operational reliability of distributed energy resources. This paper proposes DNP3Chain, a blockchain-enabled framework that provides real-time fragment-level validation and enforces end-to-end message integrity in DNP3 communications. An OpenDNP3-based… More >

International Standardization of Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technology: Overlaps, Gaps and Challenges

    Xiangjuan Jia1, Jing Xu1, Mengwei Han1, Qing Zhang1, Lu Zhang1, Xiaofeng Chen1,2,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.137, No.2, pp. 1491-1523, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.026357 - 26 June 2023

Abstract As one of the most concerned digital technologies in recent years, blockchain and distributed ledger technology are an important driving force for a new round of technological development. It is currently in the process of accelerating its evolution and maturity, and has gradually integrated with other digital technologies. It has been applied in many industries, providing decentralized solutions for various industries, realizing innovative storage models, and building a new trust system. As blockchain technology is officially incorporated into China’s new information infrastructure category, the application fields of blockchain have expanded rapidly, gradually extending from the… More >

Blockchain and IIoT Enabled Solution for Social Distancing and Isolation Management to Prevent Pandemics

Muhammad Saad1, Maaz Bin Ahmad1,*, Muhammad Asif2, Muhammad Khalid Khan1, Toqeer Mahmood3, Elsayed Tag Eldin4,*, Hala Abdel Hameed5,6

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.76, No.1, pp. 687-709, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.038335 - 08 June 2023

Abstract Pandemics have always been a nightmare for humanity, especially in developing countries. Forced lockdowns are considered one of the effective ways to deal with spreading such pandemics. Still, developing countries cannot afford such solutions because these may severely damage the country’s economy. Therefore, this study presents the proactive technological mechanisms for business organizations to run their standard business processes during pandemic-like situations smoothly. The novelty of this study is to provide a state-of-the-art solution to prevent pandemics using industrial internet of things (IIoT) and blockchain-enabled technologies. Compared to existing studies, the immutable and tamper-proof contact… More >

Design of Clustering Enabled Intrusion Detection with Blockchain Technology

    S. Vimal1, S. Nalini2,*, K. Anguraj3, T. Chelladurai4

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.33, No.3, pp. 1907-1921, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.025219 - 24 March 2022

Abstract Recent advancements in hardware and networking technologies have resulted in a large growth in the number of Internet of Things (IoT) devices connected to the Internet, which is likely to continue growing in the coming years. Traditional security solutions are insufficiently suited to the IoT context due to the restrictions and diversity of the resources available to objects. Security techniques such as intrusion detection and authentication are considered to be effective. Additionally, the decentralised and distributed nature of Blockchain technology makes it an excellent solution for overcoming the security issue. This paper proposes a chaotic… More >
