    Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics, Vol.20, No.2, pp. 67-79, 2023, DOI:10.32604/mcb.2023.042910

    Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate whether kinematic data during a countermovement jump (CMJ) could explain the post-activation performance enhancement (PAPE) effects following acute resistance exercise. Twenty-four male participants with resistance training and jumping experience were recruited and randomly assigned to either the experimental group (PAPE-stimulus) (n = 12) or the control group (n = 12). In the experimental group, participants performed 5 reps of squats at 80% 1RM to induce PAPE, while the control group received no intervention. Both groups performed three CMJ tests before (PRE) and at immediate (POST0), 4 (POST4), 8 (POST8), and 12 (POST12)… More > Graphic Abstract

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.8, pp. 1803-1815, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.028423

Abstract The numerical simulations were performed using the AMPS-1D simulator to study the effects of the CZTS as an absorber layer and the contacts’ barrier height on the performance of four ZnO/CdS/CZTS solar cells. To obtain the best cell performances, the barrier heights of the back and front contacts were adjusted between 0.01, 0.77, 0.5, and 1.55 eV, respectively. For simulations, we used the lifetime mode, and the device performances were evaluated under AM1.5 illumination spectra. We found that the efficiency, fill factor, and open-circuit voltage were almost constant at a front contact barrier height of less than 0.31 eV. The… More > Graphic Abstract

    Xi Liu1,2,#,*, Chuxuan Zhao2,#, Di Wang3,#, Gen Pan4, Xiaonan Ji2, Su Gao2, Tanxiao Du2, Yating Feng2, Wenjing Chen2

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.7, pp. 2051-2064, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2023.028196

Abstract Many studies have already shown that dwarfism and moderate delayed leaf senescence positively impact rice yield, but the underlying molecular mechanism of dwarfism and leaf senescence remains largely unknown. Here, using map-based cloning, we identified an allele of DEP2, DDG1, which controls plant height and leaf senescence in rice. The ddg1 mutant displayed dwarfism, short panicles, and delayed leaf senescence. Compared with the wild-type, ddg1 was insensitive to exogenous gibberellins (GA) and brassinolide (BR). DDG1 is expressed in various organs, especially in stems and panicles. Yeast two-hybrid assay, bimolecular fluorescent complementation and luciferase complementation image assay showed that DDG1 interacts… More >

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.18, pp. 1-9, 2022, DOI:10.5098/hmt.18.29

Abstract This paper describes the effects of a combination of rib and pulsating flow on heat transfer enhancement in an mm-scale model that simulates the narrow flow passages in cooling devices of downsized electronic equipment. This research aims to develop a novel water cooling device that increases heat transfer performance while inhibiting pumping power. Our recent study has reported that a combination of pulsating flow and rib could enhance heat transfer performance relative to the simple duct. In the present study, to verify the optimal rib height for improving heat transfer by pulsating flow, we evaluated the relationship between heat transfer… More >

Abstract In the traditional fringe projection profilometry system, the projector and the camera light center are both spatially virtual points. The spatial position relationships specified in the model are not easy to obtain, leading to inaccurate system parameters and affecting measurement accuracy. This paper proposes a method for solving the system parameters of the fringe projection profilometry system, and the spatial position of the camera and projector can be adjusted in accordance with the obtained calibration parameters. The steps are as follows: First, in accordance with the conversion relationship of the coordinate system in the calibration process, the calculation formula of… More >

Abstract Plant height (PH) is a complex trait regulated by the environment and multiple genes. PH directly affects crop yield, harvest index, and lodging resistance. From plant dwarf mutants, many genes related to PH have been identified and described. Nonetheless, the molecular mechanism of height regulation in high-culm rice mutants has not been well studied. By using transcriptome and weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA), we identified the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between high-culm rice mutants (MUT) and wild-type (WT) and explored the key pathways and potential candidate genes involved in PH regulation. Transcriptome analysis identified a total of 2,184 DEGs,… More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.3, pp. 603-617, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.023919

Abstract Pipelines are widely used for transporting oil resources in the context of offshore oil exploitation. The pipeline stress-strength analysis is an important stage in related design and ensuing construction techniques. In this study, assuming representative work environment parameters, pipeline lifting operations are investigated numerically. More specifically, a time-domain coupled dynamic analysis method is used to conduct a hydrodynamic analysis under different current velocities and wave heights. The results show that proper operation requires the lifting points are reasonably set in combination with the length of the pipeline and the position of the lifting device on the construction ship. The impact… More > Graphic Abstract

CNN-BiLSTM-Attention Model in Forecasting Wave Height over South-East China Seas

    Lina Wang1,2,*, Xilin Deng1, Peng Ge1, Changming Dong2,3, Brandon J. Bethel3, Leqing Yang1, Jinyue Xia4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.1, pp. 2151-2168, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.027415

Abstract Though numerical wave models have been applied widely to significant wave height prediction, they consume massive computing memory and their accuracy needs to be further improved. In this paper, a two-dimensional (2D) significant wave height (SWH) prediction model is established for the South and East China Seas. The proposed model is trained by Wave Watch III (WW3) reanalysis data based on a convolutional neural network, the bi-directional long short-term memory and the attention mechanism (CNN-BiLSTM-Attention). It adopts the convolutional neural network to extract spatial features of original wave height to reduce the redundant information input into the BiLSTM network. Meanwhile,… More >

Abstract Plant height is an important morphological trait that affects crop yield. Several genes related to plant height and yield have been reported in rice (Oryza sativa L.), however, the molecular mechanism underlying the regulation of these traits is still not completely understood. VP64 is widely used as a transcriptional activator to investigate the biological function of genes encoding transcription factors. Here, we identified a novel bZIP transcription factor OsbZIP62 that is involved in modulating agronomic traits in rice. Overexpression of OsbZIP62-VP64 (OsbZIP62V) significantly increases the plant height and yield per plant in rice. RNA-seq analysis showed that some plant height… More >

Tree Height-Related Hydraulic Strategy to Cope with Freeze-Thaw Stress in Six Common Urban Tree Species in North China

Cunyang Niu, Wenkai Shou, Li Ma, Jianqiang Qian*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.91, No.4, pp. 811-825, 2022, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.019386

Abstract Urban trees are sensitive to extreme weather events under climate change. Freeze-thaw induced hydraulic failure could induce urban tree dieback and nullify the services they provide. Plant height is a simple but significant trait for plant ecological strategies. Understanding how urban trees with different heights adapt to freeze-thaw stress is increasingly important under climate change. We investigated the relationship between tree height and stem hydraulic functional traits of six common urban tree species in North China to explore tree height-related hydraulic strategies to cope with freeze-thaw stress. Results showed that tall trees had wider vessels, higher hydraulic conductivity, more winter… More >
