Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.18, pp. 1-9, 2022, DOI:10.5098/hmt.18.29

Abstract This paper describes the effects of a combination of rib and pulsating flow on heat transfer enhancement in an mm-scale model that simulates the narrow flow passages in cooling devices of downsized electronic equipment. This research aims to develop a novel water cooling device that increases heat transfer performance while inhibiting pumping power. Our recent study has reported that a combination of pulsating flow and rib could enhance heat transfer performance relative to the simple duct. In the present study, to verify the optimal rib height for improving heat transfer by pulsating flow, we evaluated… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.1, pp. 2151-2168, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.027415 - 18 May 2022

Abstract Though numerical wave models have been applied widely to significant wave height prediction, they consume massive computing memory and their accuracy needs to be further improved. In this paper, a two-dimensional (2D) significant wave height (SWH) prediction model is established for the South and East China Seas. The proposed model is trained by Wave Watch III (WW3) reanalysis data based on a convolutional neural network, the bi-directional long short-term memory and the attention mechanism (CNN-BiLSTM-Attention). It adopts the convolutional neural network to extract spatial features of original wave height to reduce the redundant information input… More >

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.91, No.8, pp. 1671-1686, 2022, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.018996 - 14 April 2022

Abstract Plant height is an important morphological trait that affects crop yield. Several genes related to plant height and yield have been reported in rice (Oryza sativa L.), however, the molecular mechanism underlying the regulation of these traits is still not completely understood. VP64 is widely used as a transcriptional activator to investigate the biological function of genes encoding transcription factors. Here, we identified a novel bZIP transcription factor OsbZIP62 that is involved in modulating agronomic traits in rice. Overexpression of OsbZIP62-VP64 (OsbZIP62V) significantly increases the plant height and yield per plant in rice. RNA-seq analysis showed that some More >

Tree Height-Related Hydraulic Strategy to Cope with Freeze-Thaw Stress in Six Common Urban Tree Species in North China

Cunyang Niu, Wenkai Shou, Li Ma, Jianqiang Qian*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.91, No.4, pp. 811-825, 2022, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.019386 - 09 December 2021

Abstract Urban trees are sensitive to extreme weather events under climate change. Freeze-thaw induced hydraulic failure could induce urban tree dieback and nullify the services they provide. Plant height is a simple but significant trait for plant ecological strategies. Understanding how urban trees with different heights adapt to freeze-thaw stress is increasingly important under climate change. We investigated the relationship between tree height and stem hydraulic functional traits of six common urban tree species in North China to explore tree height-related hydraulic strategies to cope with freeze-thaw stress. Results showed that tall trees had wider vessels,… More >

    Zui Tao1, Tao Lei1, Fangbo Cao1, Jiana Chen1, Xiaohong Yin1,2, Tianfeng Liang2,*, Min Huang1,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.91, No.2, pp. 429-437, 2022, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.016955 - 26 September 2021

Abstract The “super rice” breeding program in China has been successful in developing high-yielding hybrids, including few with high harvest index values. However, there is limited information on the relationship between lodging resistance and harvest index, and the mechanisms underlying the relationship in super-rice hybrids. In this study, a two-year field experiment was conducted to compare lodging resistance and its related traits between two super-rice hybrids differing in harvest index, i.e., Guiliangyou 2 (G2) with a high harvest index and Y-liangyou 1 (Y1) with a typical harvest index of modern high-yielding rice varieties. Results showed that More >

Optimization for Variable Height Wind Farm Layout Model

    Bin Xu1,2,3,*, Jianming Zhu1, Junzhe Wen1, Shanshan Lin1, Yunkai Zhao1, Jin Qi1,2, Yu Xue4, Sichong Qin5

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.29, No.2, pp. 525-537, 2021, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2021.018338 - 16 June 2021

Abstract The optimization of wind farm layouts is very important for the effective utilization of wind resources. A fixed wind turbine hub height in the layout of wind farms leads to a low wind energy utilization and a higher LCOE (levelized cost of electricity). WOMH (Wind Farm Layout Optimization Model Considering Multiple Hub Heights) is proposed in this paper to tackle the above problem. This model is different from the traditional fixed hub height model, as it uses a variable height wind turbine. In WOMH, the Jensen wake and Weibull distribution are used to describe the wake effect… More >

Stability Control of Gob-Side Entry Retaining in Fully Mechanized Caving Face Based on a Compatible Deformation Model

    Xinshuai Shi1, Hongwen Jing1, *, Jianguo Ning2, Zhenlong Zhao1, Junfu Zhu1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.124, No.1, pp. 315-343, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2020.07955 - 19 June 2020

Abstract The stability control of gob-side entry retaining in fully mechanized caving face is a typical challenge in many coal mines in China. The rotation and subsidence of the lateral cantilever play a critical role in a coal mine, possibly leading to instability in a coal seam wall or a gob-side wall due to its excessive rotation subsidence. Hence, the presplitting blasting measures in the roof was implemented to cut down the lower main roof and convert it to caved immediate roof strata, which can significantly reduce the rotation space for the lateral cantilever and effectively… More >
