Hao Li, Jun Tang*, Qingtao Pan, Jianjun Zhan, Songyang Lao

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.76, No.3, pp. 2835-2859, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.038670

Abstract No optimization algorithm can obtain satisfactory results in all optimization tasks. Thus, it is an effective way to deal with the problem by an ensemble of multiple algorithms. This paper proposes an ensemble of population-based metaheuristics (EPM) to solve single-objective optimization problems. The design of the EPM framework includes three stages: the initial stage, the update stage, and the final stage. The framework applies the transformation of the real and virtual population to balance the problem of exploration and exploitation at the population level and uses an elite strategy to communicate among virtual populations. The experiment tested two benchmark function… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.72, No.1, pp. 399-416, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.024736

Abstract Finding a suitable solution to an optimization problem designed in science is a major challenge. Therefore, these must be addressed utilizing proper approaches. Based on a random search space, optimization algorithms can find acceptable solutions to problems. Archery Algorithm (AA) is a new stochastic approach for addressing optimization problems that is discussed in this study. The fundamental idea of developing the suggested AA is to imitate the archer's shooting behavior toward the target panel. The proposed algorithm updates the location of each member of the population in each dimension of the search space by a member randomly marked by the… More >

Abstract Finding the suitable solution to optimization problems is a fundamental challenge in various sciences. Optimization algorithms are one of the effective stochastic methods in solving optimization problems. In this paper, a new stochastic optimization algorithm called Search Step Adjustment Based Algorithm (SSABA) is presented to provide quasi-optimal solutions to various optimization problems. In the initial iterations of the algorithm, the step index is set to the highest value for a comprehensive search of the search space. Then, with increasing repetitions in order to focus the search of the algorithm in achieving the optimal solution closer to the global optimal, the… More >

AMBO: All Members-Based Optimizer for Solving Optimization Problems

    Fatemeh Ahmadi Zeidabadi1, Sajjad Amiri Doumari1, Mohammad Dehghani2, Zeinab Montazeri2, Pavel Trojovský3,*, Gaurav Dhiman4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.70, No.2, pp. 2905-2921, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.019867

Abstract There are many optimization problems in different branches of science that should be solved using an appropriate methodology. Population-based optimization algorithms are one of the most efficient approaches to solve this type of problems. In this paper, a new optimization algorithm called All Members-Based Optimizer (AMBO) is introduced to solve various optimization problems. The main idea in designing the proposed AMBO algorithm is to use more information from the population members of the algorithm instead of just a few specific members (such as best member and worst member) to update the population matrix. Therefore, in AMBO, any member of the… More >

Long-term outcomes after aortic coarctation repair in Maltese patients: A population-based study

    Maryanne Caruana1, Victor Grech2

    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.12, No.5, pp. 588-595, 2017, DOI: 10.1111/chd.12488

Abstract Objectives: To investigate survival and freedom from reintervention after aortic coarctation repair in Maltese patients and to compare cardiovascular mortality in coarctation repair survivors with that in the general population.
Design: All 72 aortic coarctation patients with any type of repair, born by end-1997 and logged in the local database were included. Trends in timing and type of repair were determined by comparing patients born before and after 1985. Kaplan-Meier analyses of survival and reintervention-free survival were performed on the 59 repair survivors with complete follow-up data (mean follow-up 26.13 ± 9.62 (range 1.05–44.55 years). Cardiovascular mortality in repair survivors… More >

Association between Economic Activity and Cognitive Health: A Population-Based Observational Study

Jae Hyun Kim1, Tae Hyun Kim2,3,*

    International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol.22, No.1, pp. 1-9, 2020, DOI:10.32604/IJMHP.2020.010995

Abstract This study investigates whether restricted participation in productive activity is associated with cognitive health in Korea. Furthermore, given the enormous socioeconomic disparities between aging and gender differences in employment, we also examine whether these associations vary by gender and age. Data from the Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing (KLoSA) from 2006 to 2016 was used and 9,942 subjects were included at baseline in 2006. To analyze the association between restricted economic activity due to health condition and cognitive function, generalized estimating equation (GEE) model and chi-square test were used. Of the 9,942 individuals at baseline in 2006, the odds ratio… More >

    Diego A. Lara1, Mary K. Ethen2, Mark A. Canfield2, Wendy N. Nembhard3, Shaine A. Morris1

    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.12, No.1, pp. 105-112, 2017

Abstract Background: Hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) is strongly associated with Turner syndrome (TS); outcome data when these conditions coexist is sparse. We aimed to investigate long-term survival and causes of death in this population.
Methods: The Texas Birth Defects Registry was queried for all live born infants with HLHS during 1999–2007. We used Kaplan–Meier and Cox regression analyses to compare survival among patients with HLHS with TS (HLHS/TS+) to patients who had HLHS without genetic disorders or extracardiac birth defects (HLHS/TS–).
Results: Of the 542 patients with HLHS, 11 had TS (2.0%), 71 had other extracardiac birth defects or genetic… More >
