Oncologie Welcomes Prof. Dr. Lei Zheng as Editor-in-Chief

We are delighted to announce that Prof. Dr. Lei Zheng, MD, PhD, has been appointed as the new Editor-in-Chief of Oncologie.

Dr. Zheng is Executive Director of the Mays Cancer Center, home to the UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center, and serves as Vice President for Oncology and Professor of Medicine at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He also holds the Mays Family Foundation Distinguished University Presidential Chair of Oncology. His clinical and research focus is on pancreatic and gastrointestinal malignancies.

Dr. Zheng is internationally recognized for his leadership in pancreatic cancer research and care. His work has significantly advanced the understanding of the tumor microenvironment and supported the development of innovative preclinical models that facilitate translational research in cancer immunotherapy. He has played an instrumental role in multidisciplinary and precision medicine–oriented research programs in pancreatic cancer.

Dr. Zheng received his premedical education at Peking University and earned his MD degree from Peking Union Medical College, followed by a PhD in Molecular Medicine from UT Health San Antonio. He completed his residency training at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and fellowship training in medical oncology at Johns Hopkins, in addition to postdoctoral research in molecular medicine and in biochemistry and molecular biology.


An NIH-funded investigator, Dr. Zheng currently leads multiple major research initiatives, including two R01 grants as principal investigator and a P50 grant as project leader. His research interests encompass pancreatic cancer biology, translational immunology, cancer immunotherapy, and tumor–microenvironment interactions.


In addition to his clinical and research achievements, Dr. Zheng has accumulated extensive editorial and peer-review experience, having served in editorial and advisory roles for multiple academic journals. He has contributed actively to maintaining high standards of scientific rigor, editorial integrity, and efficient peer-review processes.


By joining the editorial leadership team of Oncologie, Dr. Zheng will work alongside the current Editors-in-Chief to further enhance the journal’s scientific quality, broaden its global reach, and support the publication of high-impact research across the full spectrum of oncology.
