    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.1, pp. 135-158, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.021014 - 02 August 2022

Abstract In this study, the workability of cement-based grouts containing n-TiO2 nanoparticles and fly ash has been investigated experimentally. Several characteristic quantities (including, but not limited to, the marsh cone flow time, the mini slump spreading diameter and the plate cohesion meter value) have been measured for different percentages of these additives. The use of fly ash as a mineral additive has been found to result in improvements in terms of workability behavior as expected. Moreover, if nano titanium oxide is also used, an improvement can be obtained regarding the bleeding values for the cement-based grout mixes. More >

Chang Huang, Shuzhan Bai, Guoxiang Li*, Ke Sun*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.1, pp. 83-93, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.021662 - 02 August 2022

Abstract The influence of heterogeneous flow injection of urea at different velocities and temperatures on NOx conversion efficiency, ammonia storage and ammonia leakage is investigated experimentally. A diesel engine employing a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology is considered. It is found that for a fixed injection velocity, the degree of ammonia leakage changes depending on the temperature. The higher the temperature, the faster the catalytic reduction reaction and the smaller the degree of ammonia leakage. The temperature has a great influence on the catalytic reduction reaction rate. At an injection velocity of 10000/h, the average reaction More >

Abstract The utilization of vortex generators to increase heat transfer from cylinders installed inside a duct is investigated. In particular, a channel containing eight cylinders with volumetric heat sources is considered for different values of the Reynolds number. The effective possibility to use vortex generators with different sizes to increase heat transfer and, consequently, reduce the surface temperature of the cylinders is examined. Also, the amount of pressure drop inside the channel due to the presence of vortex generators is considered and compared with the cases without vortex generators. The results show that although the addition More >

Research on the Dynamic Response of Submerged Floating Tunnels to Wave Currents and Traffic Load

    Bolin Jiang1,*, Shanshan Wu2, Min Ji1, Bo Liang3

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.1, pp. 159-173, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.020730 - 02 August 2022

Abstract Submerged floating tunnel (SFTs) are typically subjected to complex external environmental and internal loads such as wave currents and traffic load. In this study, this problem is investigated through a finite element method able to account for fluid-structure interaction. The obtained results show that increasing the number of vehicles per unit length enhances the transverse vibrational displacements of the SFT cross sections. Under ultimate traffic load condition, one-way and two-way syntropic distributions can promote the dynamic responses of SFTs whereas two-way reverse distributions have the opposite effect. More >

Numerical Simulation of a Two-Phase Flow with Low Permeability and a Start-Up Pressure Gradient

    Xuanyu Dong1,*, Jingyao Yang2

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.1, pp. 175-185, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.021345 - 02 August 2022

Abstract A new numerical model for low-permeability reservoirs is developed. The model incorporates the nonlinear characteristics of oil-water two-phase flows while taking into account the initiation pressure gradient. Related numerical solutions are obtained using a finite difference method. The correctness of the method is demonstrated using a two-dimensional inhomogeneous low permeability example. Then, the differences in the cumulative oil and water production are investigated for different starting water saturations. It is shown that when the initial water saturation grows, the water content of the block continues to rise and the cumulative oil production gradually decreases. More >

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.1, pp. 187-206, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.020351 - 02 August 2022

Abstract Conventional refrigeration processes release ammonia and freon into the atmosphere, which results in global warming. These problems may be overcome by using thermoelectric modules because of the absence of coolants or refrigerants in these systems. However, the cooling performances of such modules are relatively small in comparison to those of conventional refrigerators. In this paper, the working principles of thermoelectric modules are discussed together with a review of different relevant aspects, namely: the thermoelectric materials, and their mechanical properties used to build thermoelectric devices, different types of thermoelectric devices available on the market, mathematical modeling More >

A Methodology to Reduce Thermal Gradients Due to the Exothermic Reactions in Resin Transfer Molding Applications

    Aouatif Saad1,*, Mohammed EL Ganaoui2

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.1, pp. 95-103, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.022014 - 02 August 2022

Abstract Resin transfer molding (RTM) is among the most used manufacturing processes for composite parts. Initially, the resin cure is initiated by heat supply to the mold. The supplementary heat generated during the reaction can cause thermal gradients in the composite, potentially leading to undesired residual stresses which can cause shrinkage and warpage. In the present numerical study of these processes, a one-dimensional finite difference method is used to predict the temperature evolution and the degree of cure in the course of the resin polymerization; the effect of some parameters on the thermal gradient is then More >

Numerical Study on the Resin Transfer Molding Curing Process for Thick Composites Materials

    Rida Tazi1, Adil Echchelh1, Mohammed Hattabi2, Mohammed El Ganaoui3, Aouatif Saad4,*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.1, pp. 223-232, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.021976 - 02 August 2022

Abstract The successful manufacture of thick composites is challenging since the highly exothermic nature of thermoset resins and limited temperature control make avoiding the onset of detrimental thermal gradients within the composite relatively difficult. This phenomenon is mainly caused by exothermic heat reactions. The so-called Michaud's model has been largely used in the literature to reduce the gap between experience and simulation with regard to the effective prediction of the temperature cycle in these processes. In this work, another solution is proposed to simulate the curing process for thick composites, namely preheating the resin to activate More >
