Abstract The development of new architecture metallic alloys with controlled microstructures is one of the strategic ways for designing materials with high innovation potential and, particularly with improved mechanical properties as required for structural materials [1]. Indeed, unlike conventional counterparts, metallic materials having so-called harmonic structure displays strength and ductility synergy. The latter occurs due to a unique microstructure design: a coarse grain structure surrounded by a 3D continuous network of ultra-fine grain known as “core” and “shell”, respectively. In the present study, pure harmonic-structured (HS) Nickel samples were processed via controlled mechanical milling and followed by spark plasma sintering (SPS),… More >

3D Numerical Simulation of Effect of Antiangiogenic Factor Angiostatin on Blood Flow and Interstitial Fluid Pressure in the Metastatic Tumor

    Gaiping Zhao1, Feiyi Xia1, Eryun Chen2, Xiaoli Yu3, Zhaozhi Yang3,*

    Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics, Vol.14, No.1, pp. 47-57, 2017, DOI:10.3970/mcb.2017.014.049

Abstract Metastatic tumor blood perfusion and interstitial fluid transport based on 3D microvasculature response to inhibitory effect of angiostatin are investigated in this paper. 3D blood flow、interstitial fluid transport and transvascular flow are described by the extended Poiseuille’s, Darcy’s and Starling’s law, respectively. Numerical solutions reveal that angiostatin can promote improved blood perfusion and decrease elevated interstitial fluid pressure within the metastatic tumor microenvironment. Moreover, angiostatin can increase interstitial convection within the tumor and result in more efficient drug delivery and penetration within the metastatic tumor, which suits well with the experimental observations. Together, our results may provide therapeutic implications for… More >

Computer Implementations with 3D Simulations of Models for Quick Estimations of Fragments Trajectories, Penetrations and Safety Evaluations Due to Detonations of Explosives

    Lior Banai

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.88, No.5, pp. 351-366, 2012, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2012.088.351

Abstract The explosive Engineering field is a costly one in which not every organization can effort the time and money it takes to performed field tests on its explosives. The purpose of this article is to present a program that was developed in the Israeli Navy for performance estimations and safety issues of warheads and explosives. With a relative small developing time one can create a tool that gives preliminary results in a few minutes without the need to design and order a field tests or run finite elements analyses. By implementing a few known models, in this tool, the user… More >
