Abstract Medical image segmentation has consistently been a significant topic of research and a prominent goal, particularly in computer vision. Brain tumor research plays a major role in medical imaging applications by providing a tremendous amount of anatomical and functional knowledge that enhances and allows easy diagnosis and disease therapy preparation. To prevent or minimize manual segmentation error, automated tumor segmentation, and detection became the most demanding process for radiologists and physicians as the tumor often has complex structures. Many methods for detection and segmentation presently exist, but all lack high accuracy. This paper’s key contribution focuses on evaluating machine learning… More >

The Implementation of Optimization Methods for Contrast Enhancement

    Ahmet Elbir1,∗, Hamza Osman Ilhan1, Nizamettin Aydin1

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.34, No.2, pp. 101-107, 2019, DOI:10.32604/csse.2019.34.101

Abstract The performances of the multivariate techniques are directly related to the variable selection process, which is time consuming and requires resources for testing each possible parameter to achieve the best results. Therefore, optimization methods for variable selection process have been proposed in the literature to find the optimal solution in short time by using less system resources. Contrast enhancement is the one of the most important and the parameter dependent image enhancement technique. In this study, two optimization methods are employed for the variable selection for the contrast enhancement technique. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) and artificial bee colony (ABC) optimization… More >

Sox Compliance with OEE, Enterprise Modeling and Temporal-ABC

    K. Donald Thama, Asad M. Madnib

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.24, No.1, pp. 17-26, 2018, DOI:10.1080/10798587.2017.1284411

Abstract The Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Act 2002 resulted from the mounting accounting and corporate scandals in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Since the passage of the SOX Act, companies are facing even greater challenges to meet raised expectations to provide accurate, visible, and timely information for SOX compliance. This research puts forth a systems design framework to achieve a real time, accurate, consistently traceable and easily verifiable SOX compliant technology. Our multidisciplinary and integrative systems design incorporates Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) to ensure effective business performance within a knowledge represented company modeled as Enveloped Activity Based Enterprise Model (EABEM) that facilitates… More >

A Hybrid GABC-GA Algorithm for Mechanical Design Optimization Problems

    Hui Zhi1,2, Sanyang Liu1

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.25, No.4, pp. 815-825, 2019, DOI:10.31209/2019.100000085

Abstract In this paper, we proposed a hybrid algorithm, which is embedding the genetic operators in the global-best-guided artificial bee colony algorithms called GABCGA to solve the nonlinear design optimization problems. The genetic algorithm has no memory function and good at find global optimization with large probability, but the artificial bee colony algorithm not have selection, crossover and mutation operator and most significant at local search. The hybrid algorithm balances the exploration and exploitation ability further by combining the advantages of both. The experimental results of five engineering optimization and comparisons with existing approaches show that the proposed approach is outperforms… More >

Coupled ABC and Spline Collocation Approach for a Class of Nonlinear Boundary Value Problems over Semi-Infinite Domains

    S.A. Khuri1, A. Sayfy1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.101, No.2, pp. 81-96, 2014, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2014.101.081

Abstract In this article, we introduce a numerical scheme to solve a class of nonlinear two-point BVPs on a semi-infinite domain that arise in engineering applications and the physical sciences. The strategy is based on replacing the boundary condition at infinity by an asymptotic boundary condition (ABC) specified over a finite interval that approaches the given value at infinity. Then, the problem complimented with the resulting ABC is solved using a fourth order spline collocation approach constructed over uniform meshes on the truncated domain. A number of test examples are considered to confirm the accuracy, efficient treatment of the boundary condition… More >

Geometric Formulation of Maxwell's Equations in the Frequency Domain for 3D Wave Propagation Problems in Unbounded Regions

    P. Bettini1, M. Midrio2, R. Specogna2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.66, No.2, pp. 117-134, 2010, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2010.066.117

Abstract In this paper we propose a geometric formulation to solve 3D electromagnetic wave problems in unbounded regions in the frequency domain. An absorbing boundary condition (ABC) is introduced to limit the size of the computational domain by means of anisotropic Perfectly Matched Layers (PML) absorbing media in the outer layers of an unstructured mesh. The numerical results of 3D benchmark problems are presented and the effect of the PML parameters and scaling functions on PML effectiveness are discussed. More >
