Abstract Skin cancer remains a significant global health challenge, and early detection is crucial to improving patient outcomes. This study presents a novel deep learning framework that combines Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), Transformers, and Gated Recurrent Units (GRUs) for robust skin cancer classification. To address data set imbalance, we employ StyleGAN3-based synthetic data augmentation alongside traditional techniques. The hybrid architecture effectively captures both local and global dependencies in dermoscopic images, while the GRU component models sequential patterns. Evaluated on the HAM10000 dataset, the proposed model achieves an accuracy of 90.61%, outperforming baseline architectures such as VGG16 More >

Abstract Background: Accurate classification of normal blood cells is a critical foundation for automated hematological analysis, including the detection of pathological conditions like leukemia. While convolutional neural networks (CNNs) excel in local feature extraction, their ability to capture global contextual relationships in complex cellular morphologies is limited. This study introduces a hybrid CNN-Transformer framework to enhance normal blood cell classification, laying the groundwork for future leukemia diagnostics. Methods: The proposed architecture integrates pre-trained CNNs (ResNet50, EfficientNetB3, InceptionV3, CustomCNN) with Vision Transformer (ViT) layers to combine local and global feature modeling. Four hybrid models were evaluated on… More >

    Lei Shen1,2, Chutong Zhang2, Yuwei Ge1, Shanyun Gu1, Qiang Gao1, Wei Li1, Jie Ji2,*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.122, No.4, pp. 1581-1602, 2025, DOI:10.32604/ee.2025.061010 - 31 March 2025

Abstract The rapid development and increased installed capacity of new energy sources such as wind and solar power pose new challenges for power grid fault diagnosis. This paper presents an innovative framework, the Intelligent Power Stability and Scheduling (IPSS) System, which is designed to enhance the safety, stability, and economic efficiency of power systems, particularly those integrated with green energy sources. The IPSS System is distinguished by its integration of a CNN-Transformer predictive model, which leverages the strengths of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) for local feature extraction and Transformer architecture for global dependency modeling, offering significant… More > Graphic Abstract

Robust Image Forgery Localization Using Hybrid CNN-Transformer Synergy Based Framework

    Sachin Sharma1,2,*, Brajesh Kumar Singh3, Hitendra Garg2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.82, No.3, pp. 4691-4708, 2025, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2025.061252 - 06 March 2025

Abstract Image tampering detection and localization have emerged as a critical domain in combating the pervasive issue of image manipulation due to the advancement of the large-scale availability of sophisticated image editing tools. The manual forgery localization is often reliant on forensic expertise. In recent times, machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) have shown promising results in automating image forgery localization. However, the ML-based method relies on hand-crafted features. Conversely, the DL method automatically extracts shallow spatial features to enhance the accuracy. However, DL-based methods lack the global co-relation of the features due to this… More >

SEFormer: A Lightweight CNN-Transformer Based on Separable Multiscale Depthwise Convolution and Efficient Self-Attention for Rotating Machinery Fault Diagnosis

    Hongxing Wang1, Xilai Ju2, Hua Zhu1,*, Huafeng Li1,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.82, No.1, pp. 1417-1437, 2025, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.058785 - 03 January 2025

Abstract Traditional data-driven fault diagnosis methods depend on expert experience to manually extract effective fault features of signals, which has certain limitations. Conversely, deep learning techniques have gained prominence as a central focus of research in the field of fault diagnosis by strong fault feature extraction ability and end-to-end fault diagnosis efficiency. Recently, utilizing the respective advantages of convolution neural network (CNN) and Transformer in local and global feature extraction, research on cooperating the two have demonstrated promise in the field of fault diagnosis. However, the cross-channel convolution mechanism in CNN and the self-attention calculations in… More > Graphic Abstract

Pressure Classification Analysis on CNN-Transformer-LSTM Hybrid Model

    Peng Xia1, Wu Zeng2,*, Yin Ni1, Ye Jin3

    Journal on Artificial Intelligence, Vol.6, pp. 361-377, 2024, DOI:10.32604/jai.2024.059114 - 13 December 2024

Abstract Stress is defined as a subjective reflection of an internal psychological state of tension or arousal, manifesting as an interpretive, emotional, and defensive coping process within the body. Prolonged and sustained stress can significantly increase the risk of psychological and physiological disorders. Heart rate variability (HRV) is a key biomarker for assessing autonomic cardiac function, typically increasing during relaxation and decreasing under stress. Although measuring stress through physiological parameters like HRV is a common approach, achieving ultra-high accuracy based on HRV measurements remains a challenging task. In this study, the role of HRV features as… More >
