    Qiuyu Lu1, Yunqi Yan2, Yang Liu1, Ying Chen2,*, Yinguo Yang1, Tannan Xiao3, Guobing Wu1

    Energy Engineering, Vol.122, No.12, pp. 4799-4814, 2025, DOI:10.32604/ee.2025.069131 - 27 November 2025

Abstract The rapid expansion of offshore wind energy necessitates robust and cost-effective electrical collector system (ECS) designs that prioritize lifetime operational reliability. Traditional optimization approaches often simplify reliability considerations or fail to holistically integrate them with economic and technical constraints. This paper introduces a novel, two-stage optimization framework for offshore wind farm (OWF) ECS planning that systematically incorporates reliability. The first stage employs Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP) to determine an optimal radial network topology, considering linearized reliability approximations and geographical constraints. The second stage enhances this design by strategically placing tie-lines using a Mixed-Integer Quadratically Constrained More >

    Abdil Hakan Eren*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.94, No.10, pp. 3085-3107, 2025, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2025.069506 - 29 October 2025

Abstract The FAR1-related sequence (FAR1) gene family consists of transcription factors that originated from transposases and is crucial for light signaling and stress adaptation in plants. Despite the recognized importance of FAR1 genes in model organisms, their genomic architecture, structural variability, and expression patterns in Phaseolus vulgaris have yet to be investigated. This study offers the inaugural comprehensive genome-wide identification and characterization of the FAR1 gene family in P. vulgaris. A total of 27 PvulFAR1 genes were identified, and their chromosomal distribution, gene structures, conserved domains, and phylogenetic relationships were analyzed systematically. The promoter regions of these genes were discovered… More >

Maximizing Wind Farm Power Output through Site-Specific Wake Model Calibration and Yaw Optimization

    Yang Liu1, Lifu Ding2,*, Zhenfan Yu1, Tannan Xiao2, Qiuyu Lu1, Ying Chen2, Weihua Wang1

    Energy Engineering, Vol.122, No.11, pp. 4365-4384, 2025, DOI:10.32604/ee.2025.068712 - 27 October 2025

Abstract Wake effects in large-scale wind farms significantly reduce energy capture efficiency. Active Wake Control (AWC), particularly through intentional yaw misalignment of upstream turbines, has emerged as a promising strategy to mitigate these losses by redirecting wakes away from downstream turbines. However, the effectiveness of yaw-based AWC is highly dependent on the accuracy of the underlying wake prediction models, which often require site-specific adjustments to reflect local atmospheric conditions and turbine characteristics. This paper presents an integrated, data-driven framework to maximize wind farm power output. The methodology consists of three key stages. First, a practical simulation-assisted… More >

Dynamic Coefficient Triangular Greenness Index for Aerial Phenotyping in a Liberica Coffee Farm

    Anton Louise P. De Ocampo*

    Revue Internationale de Géomatique, Vol.34, pp. 731-749, 2025, DOI:10.32604/rig.2025.066185 - 10 October 2025

Abstract The effects of climate change are becoming more evident nowadays, and the environmental stress imposed on crops has become more severe. Farmers around the globe continually seek ways to gain insights into crop health and provide mitigation as early as possible. Phenotyping is a non-destructive method for assessing crop responses to environmental stresses and can be performed using airborne systems. Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) have significantly contributed to high-throughput phenotyping and made the process rapid, efficient, and non-invasive for collecting large-scale agronomic data. Because of the high complexity and cost of specialized equipment used in… More >

    Energy Engineering, Vol.122, No.10, pp. 4261-4296, 2025, DOI:10.32604/ee.2025.068422 - 30 September 2025

Abstract Traditional agricultural irrigation systems waste significant amounts of water and energy due to inefficient scheduling and the absence of real-time monitoring capabilities. This research developed a comprehensive IoT-based smart irrigation control system to optimize water and energy management in agricultural greenhouses while enhancing crop productivity. The system employs a sophisticated four-layer Internet of Things (IoT) architecture based on an ESP32 microcontroller, integrated with multiple environmental sensors, including soil moisture, temperature, humidity, and light intensity sensors, for comprehensive environmental monitoring. The system utilizes the Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) communication protocol for reliable data transmission and… More >

Jikai Chen, Jiawei Wang, Jiayang Zhang, Shuangshuang Yao, Qianxin Li, Haoru Li*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.122, No.9, pp. 3703-3718, 2025, DOI:10.32604/ee.2025.066620 - 26 August 2025

Abstract As a new dynamic reactive power compensator, the grid-forming Static Var Generator (GF-SVG) can not only provide reactive power-voltage support, but also has inertial support capability. It has been experimentally deployed in many wind farms. However, studies have shown that when the three-phase short-circuit fault occurs in the wind farm, the transient overcurrent during the fault occurrence and fault clearance is suppressed, making it difficult for GF-SVG to use traditional fixed virtual impedance. Aiming at the problem, firstly, the influence of virtual reactance on control stability is analyzed using the GF-SVG’s current open-loop transfer function.… More >

Investigating Techniques to Optimise the Layout of Turbines in a Windfarm Using a Quantum Computer

James Hancock*, Matthew Craven, Craig McNeile, Davide Vadacchino

    Journal of Quantum Computing, Vol.7, pp. 55-79, 2025, DOI:10.32604/jqc.2025.068127 - 11 August 2025

Abstract This paper investigates Windfarm Layout Optimization (WFLO), where we formulate turbine placement considering wake effects as a Quadratic Unconstrained Binary Optimization (QUBO) problem. Wind energy plays a critical role in the transition toward sustainable power systems, but the optimal placement of turbines remains a challenging combinatorial problem due to complex wake interactions. With recent advances in quantum computing, there is growing interest in exploring whether hybrid quantum-classical methods can provide advantages for such computationally intensive tasks. We investigate solving the resulting QUBO problem using the Variational Quantum Eigensolver (VQE) implemented on Qiskit’s quantum computer simulator, More >

A Partitioned Yaw Control Algorithm for Wind Farms Using Dynamic Wake Modeling

    Yinguo Yang1, Lifu Ding2,*, Yang Liu1, Bingchen Wang2, Weihua Wang1, Ying Chen2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.122, No.7, pp. 2571-2587, 2025, DOI:10.32604/ee.2025.065716 - 27 June 2025

Abstract This paper addresses the complexity of wake control in large-scale wind farms by proposing a partitioning control algorithm utilizing the FLORIDyn (FLOW Redirection and Induction Dynamics) dynamic wake model. First, the impact of wakes on turbine effective wind speed is analyzed, leading to a quantitative method for assessing wake interactions. Based on these interactions, a partitioning method divides the wind farm into smaller, computationally manageable zones. Subsequently, a heuristic control algorithm is developed for yaw optimization within each partition, reducing the overall computational burden associated with multi-turbine optimization. The algorithm’s effectiveness is evaluated through case More >
