    Abstract In this paper a Hierarchical approach for the analysis of advanced aerospace structures is presented. The proposed Global/Local model uses two kind of numerical methods for the different steps of analysis.     Molecular-dynamics Study on Crack Growth Behavior Relevant to Crystal Nucleation in Amorphous Metal

    Abstract In this paper, the internal structure-changes around the crack-tip and the pertinent crack growth behavior in an amorphous metal were studied by a molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. In order to perform a large scale calculation, the domain decomposition method was used for parallel calculation. The Finnis-Sinclair potential for$\alpha$-iron was used to describe the interatomic potential. Computed results show that nano-scaled crystalline phase grows around the crack-tip. The distribution of deformation zones and deformation mechanism are significantly altered.     On Three-Dimensional Fracture Mechanics Analysis by an Enriched Meshless Method

    Abstract An enriched meshless method, using meshless interpolations and a global Galerkin approach, is developed for the analysis of three-dimensional fracture problems. The displacement field which accounts for the stress singularity nearby the crack front and the boundary layer effect at the intersection between the crack front and the free surface of the structure is adopted to enrich the trial functions. The three-dimensional stress intensity factors can thus be treated as independent unknown parameters and calculated with the nodal displacements directly.     Abstract This paper presents the dual boundary integral equations for the buckling analysis of the shear deformable cracked plates. The domain integrals which appear in this formulation are transferred to boundary integrals using the dual reciprocity method. The plate buckling displacement and hypersingular traction integral equations are presented as a standard eigenvalue problem, which would allow direct evaluation of the critical load factor and buckling modes. Several examples with different geometries and boundary conditions are presented to demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed formulation. More >

    Abstract The thermo-mechanical properties and linear fracture mechanics of acrylated soybean oil and the triglycidylated ether of α-resorcylic acid interpenetrated networks as a function of their weight composition are the focus of Part 2 of this article. Thermo-mechanical characterization showed that the obtained materials behave as thermoset amorphous polymers, and that both the modulus and glass transition are extremely dependent on the epoxy/acrylate weight ratio. Modulus values ranged from 0.7 to 3.3 GPa at 30 °C, and glass transition temperatures ranged from around 58 °C to approx. 130 °C. No synergistic effect on these two properties was observed.     Abstract To speed up the elastic–plastic analysis of a large-scale model with a crack in which plasticity is observed near the crack, the partitioned coupling method is applied. In this method, the entire analysis model is decomposed into two non-overlapped domains (i.e., global and local domains), and the two domains are analyzed with an iterative method.     Abstract The present authors have recently proposed an efficient, alternative approach to numerically evaluate the fundamental solution and its derivatives for 3D general anisotropic elasticity. It is based on a double Fourier series representation of the exact, explicit form of the Green’s function derived by Ting and Lee (1997). This paper reports on the successful implementation of the fundamental solution and its derivatives based on this Fourier series scheme in the boundary element method (BEM) for 3D general anisotropic elastostatics.
