Astragaloside IV Inhibits the Progression of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Through the Akt/GSK-3β/β-Catenin Pathway

Liwei Jia*, Dongying Lv, Shuang Zhang*, Zhenyue Wang*, Bo Zhou*

    Oncology Research, Vol.27, No.4, pp. 503-508, 2019, DOI:10.3727/096504018X15344989701565

Abstract Astragaloside IV (AS-IV) is an active ingredient in Astragalus membranaceus and is involved in various biological processes, such as regulating the immune system, and counteracting inflammation and malignancy. The aim of this study was to explore the effect of AS-IV on non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells. Cell counting kit (CCK)-8 assay and flow cytometry were performed to investigate cell survival and cell death, and Western blotting was performed to assess protein expression. We found that AS-IV inhibited the migration and proliferation of NSCLC cells and caused a noticeable increase in cell death. Furthermore, the expression of Bax, a marker… More >

GSK-3b Promotes Cell Migration and Inhibits Autophagy by Mediating the AMPK Pathway in Breast Cancer

Lu Guo*, Duankai Chen, Xing Yin, Qingfeng Shu

    Oncology Research, Vol.27, No.4, pp. 487-494, 2019, DOI:10.3727/096504018X15323394008784

Abstract GSK-3 is a versatile protein kinase participating in many reactions. Currently, there is insufficient understanding of its influence on breast cancer (BC). In order to explore its influence on migration and invasion in BC, we investigated its expression in BC cell lines using qRT-PCR and Western blot (WB). Immunohistochemistry (IHC) was used to examine the potential of GSK-3 to predict clinical outcome in BC patients. GSK-3 knockdown was achieved using an shRNA plasmid vector in T47D cells. Our research explored the biological reactions and downstream pathways involved. We found excessive GSK-3 expression in BC tissues, which was correlated with worse… More >

The AKT/GSK3β-Mediated Slug Expression Contributes to Oxaliplatin Resistance in Colorectal Cancer via Upregulation of ERCC1

    Wei Wei*1, Xiao-Dong Ma†1, Guan-Min Jiang, Bin Shi§, Wen Zhong, Chun-Lei Sun§, Liang Zhao*, Yan-Jiao Hou*, Hao Wang*

    Oncology Research, Vol.28, No.4, pp. 423-438, 2020, DOI:10.3727/096504020X15877284857868

Abstract Although oxaliplatin serves as one of the first-line drugs prescribed for treating colorectal cancer (CRC), the therapeutic effect is disappointing due to drug resistance. So far, the molecular mechanisms mediating oxaliplatin resistance remain unclear. In this study, we found the chemoresistance in oxaliplatin-resistant HCT116 cells (HCT116/OXA) was mediated by the upregulation of ERCC1 expression. In addition, the acquisition of resistance induced epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) as well as the Slug overexpression. On the contrary, Slug silencing reversed the EMT phenotype, decreased ERCC1 expression, and ameliorated drug resistance. Further mechanistical studies revealed the enhanced Slug expression resulted from the activation of AKT/… More >

miR-632 Promotes Laryngeal Carcinoma Cell Proliferation, Migration, and Invasion Through Negative Regulation of GSK3b

    Zhong-xin Zhou*, Zu-ping Zhang, Ze-zhang Tao*, Ting-zhao Tan

    Oncology Research, Vol.28, No.1, pp. 21-31, 2020, DOI:10.3727/096504018X15213142076069

Abstract Laryngeal cancer, one of the most common head and neck malignancies, is an aggressive neoplasm. Increasing evidence has demonstrated that microRNAs (miRNAs) exert important roles in oncogenesis and progression of diverse types of human cancers. miR-632, a tumor-related miRNA, has been reported to be dysregulated and implicated in human malignancies; however, its biological role in laryngeal carcinoma remains to be elucidated. The present study aimed at exploring the role of miR-632 in laryngeal cancer and clarifying the potential molecular mechanisms involved. In the current study, miR-632 was found to be significantly upregulated both in laryngeal cancer tissues and laryngeal cancer… More >

UAV-Aided Data Acquisition Using Gaining-Sharing Knowledge Optimization Algorithm

    Rania M Tawfik1, Hazem A. A. Nomer2, M. Saeed Darweesh1,*, Ali Wagdy Mohamed3,4, Hassan Mostafa5,6

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.72, No.3, pp. 5999-6013, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.028234

Abstract Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) provide a reliable and energy-efficient solution for data collection from the Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) devices. However, the UAV’s deployment optimization, including locations of the UAV’s stop points, is a necessity to minimize the energy consumption of the UAV and the NB-IoT devices and also to conduct the data collection efficiently. In this regard, this paper proposes Gaining-Sharing Knowledge (GSK) algorithm for optimizing the UAV’s deployment. In GSK, the number of UAV’s stop points in the three-dimensional space is encapsulated into a single individual with a fixed length representing an entire deployment. The superiority of… More >
