Federated Learning and Blockchain Framework for Scalable and Secure IoT Access Control

    Ammar Odeh*, Anas Abu Taleb

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.84, No.1, pp. 447-461, 2025, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2025.065426 - 09 June 2025

Abstract The increasing deployment of Internet of Things (IoT) devices has introduced significant security challenges, including identity spoofing, unauthorized access, and data integrity breaches. Traditional security mechanisms rely on centralized frameworks that suffer from single points of failure, scalability issues, and inefficiencies in real-time security enforcement. To address these limitations, this study proposes the Blockchain-Enhanced Trust and Access Control for IoT Security (BETAC-IoT) model, which integrates blockchain technology, smart contracts, federated learning, and Merkle tree-based integrity verification to enhance IoT security. The proposed model eliminates reliance on centralized authentication by employing decentralized identity management, ensuring tamper-proof… More >

Ether-IoT: A Realtime Lightweight and Scalable Blockchain-Enabled Cache Algorithm for IoT Access Control

Hafiz Adnan Hussain*, Zulkefli Mansor, Zarina Shukur, Uzma Jafar

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.75, No.2, pp. 3797-3815, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.034671 - 31 March 2023

Abstract Several unique characteristics of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, such as distributed deployment and limited storage, make it challenging for standard centralized access control systems to enable access control in today’s large-scale IoT ecosystem. To solve these challenges, this study presents an IoT access control system called Ether-IoT based on the Ethereum Blockchain (BC) infrastructure with Attribute-Based Access Control (ABAC). Access Contract (AC), Cache Contract (CC), Device Contract (DC), and Policy Contract (PC) are the four central smart contracts (SCs) that are included in the proposed system. CC offers a way to save user characteristics… More >

A Traceable Capability-based Access Control for IoT

    Chao Li1, Fan Li1,2, Cheng Huang3, Lihua Yin1,*, Tianjie Luo1,2, Bin Wang4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.72, No.3, pp. 4967-4982, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.023496 - 21 April 2022

Abstract Delegation mechanism in Internet of Things (IoT) allows users to share some of their permissions with others. Cloud-based delegation solutions require that only the user who has registered in the cloud can be delegated permissions. It is not convenient when a permission is delegated to a large number of temporarily users. Therefore, some works like CapBAC delegate permissions locally in an offline way. However, this is difficult to revoke and modify the offline delegated permissions. In this work, we propose a traceable capability-based access control approach (TCAC) that can revoke and modify permissions by tracking… More >
