KRIGING SURROGATE BASED OPTIMIZATION OF THERMAL DAMAGE TO LIVING BIOLOGICAL TISSUES BY LASER IRRADIATION BASED ON A GENERALIZED DUAL PHASE LAG MODEL

Nazia Afrina,*, Jonathan Lopez, Juan Ocampo

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.18, pp. 1-7, 2022, DOI:10.5098/hmt.18.46

Abstract Large number of numerical computer simulations in engineering places is a serious burden on associated optimization problems nowadays. Kriging Surrogate based optimization (KSBO) becomes standard practice in analyzing expensive and time-consuming simulation. This paper aims to investigate the surrogate based analyze and optimization of thermal damage in living biological tissue by laser irradiation using a generalized duel phase model. The relationships of maximum temperature and thermal damage in living biological tissues of the response with two variables at a time are studied. The result shows that the surrogate model predicted response variables i.e, temperature and More >

Rongge Xiaoa,* , Qi Zhuanga, Shuaishuai Jina , Wenbo Jina

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.18, pp. 1-7, 2022, DOI:10.5098/hmt.18.8

Abstract A model for predicting wax deposition rate in pipeline transportation is constructed to predict wax deposition in actual pipeline, which can provide decision support for the flow guarantee of waxy crude oil in pipeline transportation. This paper analyzes the working principle of Back Propagation Neural Networks (BPNN). Aiming at the problems of BPNN model, such as over learning, long training time, low generalization ability and easy to fall into local minimum, the paper proposes an improved scheme of using Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA) to optimize BPNN model(WOABPNN).Taking 38 groups of crude oil wax deposition experimental More >

NUMERICAL THERMAL STUDY OF HEAT TRANSFER ENHANCEMENT IN LAMINAR-TURBULENT TRANSITION FLOW THROUGH ABSORBER PIPE OF PARABOLIC SOLAR TROUGH COLLECTOR SYSTEM

Marwa M. Ibrahima,*, Mohamed Mahran Kasemb,c

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.17, pp. 1-11, 2021, DOI:10.5098/hmt.17.20

Abstract Currently electricity generation technologies by thermal energy conversions become strong demand. The objective of this paper is to present a novel thermal study of absorber/receiver circular pipe of parabolic trough solar collector system for laminar and turbulent (k-ɛ model) fluids flow as well as two-dimensional numerical simulation is performed using CFD ANSYS FLUENT software. Significant improvements in heat transfer and velocity were discovered; the pattern of temperature distribution over the pipe absorber was displayed, and velocity vectors, pressure contours, and temperature contours were studied. The impact of increasing the heat flux towards the pipe wall More >

CRITICAL MULTISCALE FLOW FOR INTERFACIAL SLIPPAGE IN MICROCHANNEL

    Zhipeng Tanga, Yongbin Zhangb,*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.14, pp. 1-5, 2020, DOI:10.5098/hmt.14.26

Abstract The critical flow rate through a micro/nano slit pore for starting the adsorbed layer-fluid or adsorbed layer-wall interfacial slippage is calculated by a multiscale scheme. There are the physical adsorbed layers on the channel walls and the intermediate continuum fluid which are respectively in noncontinuum and continuum flows. The flow factor approach model for nanoscale flow is used to simulate the adsorbed layer flow, and a continuum model describes the continuum fluid flow. The boundary between the adsorbed layer and the continuum fluid or the boundary between the adsorbed layer and the channel wall are More >

INFLUENCE OF PORE WALL SURFACE PROPERTY ON FLUX OF CYLINDRICAL-SHAPED NANOPOROUS FILTERING MEMBRANE

    Yongbin Zhang*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.9, pp. 1-6, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.9.26

Abstract The influence of pore wall surface property on the flux of a novel cylindrical-shaped nanoporous filtering membrane is analytically studied by using the flow factor approach model for a nanoscale flow. Across the thickness of the membrane are manufactured two concentric cylindrical pores with different radii. The smaller nanoscale pore is for filtration, while the other larger pore is for reducing the flow resistance. It was found that when the larger pore wall surface is hydrophobic, the interaction between the filtered liquid and the smaller pore wall surface has a very significant effect on the More >

EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE ON WATER TRANSPORTATION IN NANOCHANNEL

    Yongbin Zhang*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.9, pp. 1-4, 2017, DOI:10.5098/hmt.9.16

Abstract The flow factor approach model was used to study the effect of temperature on water transportation in a nano slit pore flow driven by the pressure. The influences of the temperature on the density and viscosity of water and on the water-wall interaction were considered. The results show that enhancing the temperature of water significantly improves water transportation in nanochannel, especially when the channel height is so low that the water non-continuum effect is significant. The mechanism of this temperature effect is that the temperature increase not only appreciably reduces the water viscosity but also More >

CRITICAL HEAT FLUX DURING FLOW BOILING IN MINI AND MICROCHANNEL-A STATE OF THE ART REVIEW

    P. K. Das*, S. Chakraborty, S. Bhaduri

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.3, No.1, pp. 1-17, 2012, DOI:10.5098/hmt.v3.1.3008

Abstract A state of the art review of critical heat flux during flow boiling through mini and microchannels has been provided based on the open literature. This review mainly examines three aspects, namely the experimental investigations, the available correlations and the state of prediction using those correlations and finally the proposed physical mechanisms as well as the theoretical models. Before discussing the specific literature on microchannels, a brief overview of critical heat flux for pool and flow boiling is provided. The review has been concluded with a summary of the available information on this topic and More >
