    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.142, No.2, pp. 1289-1349, 2025, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2025.059152 - 27 January 2025

Abstract This review aims to analyze the development and impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the context of Saudi Arabia’s public healthcare system to fulfill Vision 2030 objectives. It is extensively devoted to AI technology deployment relevant to disease management, healthcare delivery, epidemiology, and policy-making. However, its AI is culturally sensitive and ethically grounded in Islam. Based on the PRISMA framework, an SLR evaluated primary academic literature, cases, and practices of Saudi Arabia’s AI implementation in the public healthcare sector. Instead, it categorizes prior research based on how AI can work, the issues it poses, and… More >

    International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol.26, No.8, pp. 599-610, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ijmhp.2024.050302 - 30 August 2024

Abstract Background: With public health emergencies (PHE) worldwide increasing, the perceived risk of PHE has been one of the critical factors influencing college students’ psychological distress. However, the mechanisms by which the perceived risk of PHE affects college students’ psychological distress are not clear. The study’s purpose was to investigate the mediation roles of deviation from a balanced time perspective (DBTP) and negative coping styles between the perceived risk of PHE and psychological distress. Methods: A convenience sampling method was used to survey 1054 Chinese college students with self-reporting. Data was collected using the Public Risk… More >

The study’s purpose was to assess the prevalence of de-pression among individuals with SCA in this area and to identify the factors associated with this condition. The study involved 391 adult participants, all patients in the hematology center of Prince Mohammed bin Nasser Hospital (PMNH). Data was collected through an anonymous interview questionnaire–the Arabic version of the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9)–between March–May 2022. The questionnaire covered socio-demographic information and variables related to the participant’s SCA history, such as… More >

Analyzing COVID-19 Discourse on Twitter: Text Clustering and Classification Models for Public Health Surveillance

    Pakorn Santakij1, Samai Srisuay2,*, Pongporn Punpeng1

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.48, No.3, pp. 665-689, 2024, DOI:10.32604/csse.2024.045066 - 20 May 2024

Abstract Social media has revolutionized the dissemination of real-life information, serving as a robust platform for sharing life events. Twitter, characterized by its brevity and continuous flow of posts, has emerged as a crucial source for public health surveillance, offering valuable insights into public reactions during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aims to leverage a range of machine learning techniques to extract pivotal themes and facilitate text classification on a dataset of COVID-19 outbreak-related tweets. Diverse topic modeling approaches have been employed to extract pertinent themes and subsequently form a dataset for training text classification models.… More >

Do Public Health Events Promote the Prevalence of Adjustment Disorder in College Students? An Example from the COVID-19 Pandemic

    Rong Fu*, Luze Xie

    International Journal of Mental Health Promotion, Vol.26, No.1, pp. 21-30, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ijmhp.2023.041730 - 05 February 2024

Abstract COVID-19, as one of the most serious sudden public health problems in this century, is a serious threat to people’s mental health. College students, as a vulnerable group, are more likely to develop mental health problems. When the body is unable to adapt to new changes in the environment, the main mental health problem that arises is adjustment disorder. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence and influencing factors of adjustment disorder among college students during the COVID-19 outbreak in China. Cross-sectional data collected by web-based questionnaires were obtained through convenience sampling… More >

Tariq Abdul Hamid1, Amr Elmekresh1, Almas Zulfiquar Parkar2, Mohamad Motaz Al Masri1, Yaser Saeedi1

    Canadian Journal of Urology, Vol.30, No.3, pp. 11562-11567, 2023

Abstract Monkeypox virus (MPV) is a rare zoonotic infection caused by an orthopoxvirus. The sudden outbreak of more than 3000 MPV infection from 50 countries has led the WHO to declare the infection as an “evolving threat of moderate public health concern”. Here, we describe a case series of two cases of the MPV with a similar onset of cutaneous lesions in the genital area but with different progression in 35 and 41-year-old males respectively. Both of our patients were reported heterosexual with a 10-day prior history of unprotected sexual activity with a sex worker. Case… More >

Optimal Synergic Deep Learning for COVID-19 Classification Using Chest X-Ray Images

    José Escorcia-Gutierrez1,*, Margarita Gamarra1, Roosvel Soto-Diaz2, Safa Alsafari3, Ayman Yafoz4, Romany F. Mansour5

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.75, No.3, pp. 5255-5270, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.033731 - 29 April 2023

Abstract A chest radiology scan can significantly aid the early diagnosis and management of COVID-19 since the virus attacks the lungs. Chest X-ray (CXR) gained much interest after the COVID-19 outbreak thanks to its rapid imaging time, widespread availability, low cost, and portability. In radiological investigations, computer-aided diagnostic tools are implemented to reduce intra- and inter-observer variability. Using lately industrialized Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms and radiological techniques to diagnose and classify disease is advantageous. The current study develops an automatic identification and classification model for CXR pictures using Gaussian Filtering based Optimized Synergic Deep Learning using… More >

Abstract The Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) and cloud-based healthcare applications, services are beneficial for better decision-making in recent years. Melanoma is a deadly cancer with a higher mortality rate than other skin cancer types such as basal cell, squamous cell, and Merkel cell. However, detection and treatment at an early stage can result in a higher chance of survival. The classical methods of detection are expensive and labor-intensive. Also, they rely on a trained practitioner's level, and the availability of the needed equipment is essential for the early detection of Melanoma. The current improvement in… More >
