NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF TURBULENT FLOW IN A RECTANGULAR CHANNEL WITH PERIODICALLY MOUNTED LONGITUDINAL VORTEX GENERATORS

    Pankaj Sahaa, Gautam Biswasa,b,*

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.2, No.3, pp. 1-5, 2011, DOI:10.5098/hmt.v2.3.3008

Abstract Detailed flow structure in turbulent flows through a rectangular channel containing built-in winglet type vortex generators have been analyzed by means of solutions of the full Navier-Stokes equations using a Large-Eddy Simulation (LES) technique. The Reynolds number of investigation is 6000. The geometry of interest consists of a rectangular channel with a built-in winglet pair on the bottom wall with common-flow-down arrangement. The winglet pair induces streamwise longitudinal vortices behind it. The vortices swirl the flow around the axis parallel to the mainstream direction and disrupt the growth of thermal boundary layer entailing enhancement of heat transfer. The influence of… More >

    Riyadh S. Al-Turaihi a , Doaa Fadhila,b,*, Azher M. Abedb

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.13, pp. 1-7, 2019, DOI:10.5098/hmt.13.29

Abstract In this paper an experimental and numerical analysis has been conducted to study the effect of heat transfer and filed flow of two-phase flow (water and air) through a rectangular ribbed channel. The study has involved the several values of heat flux (120,140,160 Watts), air and water superficial velocity (1.096, 1.425, 1.644, 1.864, and 2.193 m/s) and (0.0421, 0.0842, and 0.1474 m/s), respectively. The distribution of temperature along the channel was photographed using thermal camera and compared with numerical results . The experimental test system was fabricated of vertical rectangular channel with cross section of (0.08m × 0.03m) and a… More >

Analysis of Bubble Behavior in a Horizontal Rectangular Channel under Subcooled Flow Boiling Conditions

Ke Sun, Xiaoyu Hu, Da Li, Guodong Zhang, Kui Zhao, Haiyang Zhao, Shuzhan Bai*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.17, No.1, pp. 81-95, 2021, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2021.013895

Abstract Experiments on subcooled flow boiling have been conducted using water in a rectangular flow channel. Similar to the coolant channel in internal combustion engines (IC engines), the flow channel in this experiment was asymmetrically heated. Bubble images were captured using a high speed camera from the side view of the channel. The experimental conditions in terms of bulk temperature, bulk velocity, pressure and heat flux ranged from 65°C–75°C, 0.25 m/s–0.75 m/s, 1–1.7 bar and 490 kW/m2–700 kW/m2, respectively. On the basis of these tests, a statistical analysis of the bubble size has been conducted considering a population of 1400 samples.… More >

Enhancement of Cooling Performance of Block Heat Source Module in a Rectangular Channel by Installing Baffle onto Channel Wall

    Yeong-Ley Tsay*, Jen-Chieh Cheng, Zhi-Hang Zhan

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.16, No.2, pp. 61-62, 2011, DOI:10.3970/icces.2011.016.061

Abstract A lot of researchers have dealt with the heat transfer enhancement of block heat sources mounted on the channel walls by using baffle. On the other hand, the heat generating components are allocated inside the channel or cabinet in many engineering applications. This study aims firstly to investigate the characteristics of conjugate heat transfer of conduction-forced convection in a rectangular channel containing a block heat source module. The module is comprised of a board and five block heat sources mounted discretely on the up surface of the board. Furthermore, efforts are carried out to explore the enhancement of cooling performance… More >

Towards a Numerical Benchmark for 3D Low Mach Number Mixed Flows in a Rectangular Channel Heated from Below

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.4, No.4, pp. 263-270, 2008, DOI:10.3970/fdmp.2008.004.263

Abstract In the literature, only few references have dealt with mixed-convection flows in the low Mach number approximation. For this reason, in the present study we propose to extend the standard 3D benchmark for mixed convection in a rectangular channel heated from below (Medale and Nicolas, 2005) to the case of large temperature variations (for which the Boussinesq approximation is no longer valid). The Navier-Stokes equations, obtained under the assumption of a low Mach number flow, are solved using a finite volume method. The results, corresponding to the steady-state case of the benchmark, lead to the idea of launching a call… More >
