Towards High Reynolds Number Flows by a High-Order SPH Method

    Zifei Meng1, Pengnan Sun1,*, Yang Xu1

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.31, No.1, pp. 1-1, 2024, DOI:10.32604/icces.2024.011674

Abstract DNS simulations on incompressible flows with high Reynolds number using meshfree methods remain an enduring challenge to be addressed. In the present work, we attempt to use a high-order SPH scheme (TENO-SPH) to make DNS simulations on high Reynolds number flows. To investigate this, several spatial reconstructions are applied under the Riemann-ALE-SPH framework, and their performances are compared. Particularly, the accuracy of SPH is significantly enhanced by WENO and TENO reconstructions. For free surface flows, we implement a Lagrangian TENO-SPH to reproduce these flows at different Reynolds numbers. More importantly, to make DNS simulations, the More >

Effects of Unequal Individual Spacing on the Aerodynamic Performance of Three Flapping Wings in Tandem

    Xueguang Meng1, Zengshuang Chen1, Yuxin Xie1, Gang Chen1,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.27, No.4, pp. 1-5, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09892

Abstract Many species generally choose highly organized movements to gain more performance advantages rather than alone in the animal world, such as V-formation and line formation in birds. Understanding the aerodynamic characteristics and flow variation of multi-flapping wings in formation flight could be applied to the formation design of new bionic flapping-wing aircraft. In this paper, the effects of unequal individual spacing on the aerodynamic performance and flow mechanism of three-dimensional three-flapping wings flying in tandem formation are investigated numerically at a low Reynolds number. The simulations include small and large spacings, as well as cases… More >

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.25, No.2, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09976

Abstract A computational study has been conducted on various airfoils to simulate flows at low Reynolds numbers 17,000 and 21,000 with Mach number changes from 0.25 to 0.85 to provide understanding and guidance for Mars rotory wing designs. The computational fluid dynamics tool used in this study is a Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes solver with a transition model (k-ω SST γ-Reθ). The airfoils investigated in this study include NACA airfoils (4, 5, and 6% camber), UltraThin airfoils, and thin cambered plates (3% camber, but various maximum camber locations). Airfoils were examined for lift and drag performance as well… More >

THE EFFECTS OF NUSSELT, REYNOLDS NUMBER, AND PRESSURE DROP ON THE THERMAL PERFORMANCE OF PIERCED PIN FINS

    Wadhah Hussein Al doori*

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.19, pp. 1-9, 2022, DOI:10.5098/hmt.19.8

Abstract Perforated fin forced convection heat transfer is the primary focus of this investigation. The purpose of this research is to see if perforated pin fins can help with heat transmission in the devices. Each pin's perforation diameter and number of holes are rigorously examined. The Nusselt numbers for perforated pins are 47 percent higher than those for solid pins, according to the study, and this number raises as the number of holes increases. The pressure drop is reduced by 19% when perforated pins are used instead of solid pins. Heat transmission in a round-holed pin More >

    Yajuan Jia1, Lisha Shang1, Jiangping Nan1, Guangping Hu2, Zhigang Fang3,4,*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.2, pp. 329-344, 2022, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.017734 - 16 December 2021

Abstract The flow past a fixed single transmission conductor and the related heat transfer characteristics are investigated using computational fluid dynamics and a relevant turbulence model. After validating the method through comparison with relevant results in the literature, this thermofluid-dynamic problem is addressed considering different working conditions. It is shown that the resistance coefficient depends on the Reynolds number. As expected, the Nusselt number is also affected by Reynolds number. In particular, the Nusselt number under constant heat flux is always greater than that under a constant wall temperature. More >

    Mohamed Omri1,*, Yusuf Al-Turki2, Ahmed A. Alghamdi1, Amrid Amnache3, Luc G. Fréchette3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.1, pp. 961-977, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.021406 - 03 November 2021

Abstract In this paper, three-dimensional flows in laminar subsonic cascades at relatively low Reynolds numbers (Re < 2500) are presented, based on numerical calculations. The stator and rotor blade designs are those for a MEMS-based Rankine microturbine power-plant-on-a-chip with 109-micron chord blades. Blade passage calculations in 3D were done for different Reynolds numbers, tip clearances (from 0 to 20%) and incidences (0° to 15°) to determine the impact of aerodynamic conditions on the flow patterns. These conditions are applied to a blade passage for a stationary outer casing. The 3D blade passage without tip clearance indicates More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.122, No.3, pp. 1099-1118, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2020.08389 - 01 March 2020

Abstract Current research is about the injection of a viscous fluid in the presence of a transverse uniform magnetic field to reduce the sliding drag. There is a slip-on both the slider and the ground in the two cases, for example, a long porous slider and a circular porous slider. By utilizing similarity transformation Navier-Stokes equations are converted into coupled equations which are tackled by Integral Transform Method. Solutions are obtained for different values of Reynolds numbers, velocity slip, and magnetic field. We found that surface slip and Reynolds number has a substantial influence on the More >

    Yundong Han1, Dawei Chen1, Shaoqing Liu1, Gang Xu2

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.16, No.1, pp. 1-19, 2020, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2020.06525 - 01 February 2020

Abstract A series of tests have been conducted using a Cryogenic Wind Tunnel to study the effect of Reynolds number (Re) on the aerodynamic force and surface pressure experienced by a high speed train. The test Reynolds number has been varied from 1 million to 10 million, which is the highest Reynolds number a wind tunnel has ever achieved for a train test. According to our results, the drag coefficient of the leading car decreases with higher Reynolds number for yaw angles up to 30º. The drag force coefficient drops about 0.06 when Re is raised… More >
